yeah, sure. You past in over thirty thousand question marks, and want us to
believe you didn't even *notice* it? Bwahaha. Next time, find a more credible excuse. rolu 3rd abuse report : [Fwd: Re: HELP!OFF TOPIC]Mar 5, 2001, 3:05pm

And you should snip the question marks when replying, or you are as bad as
AFM :-) rolu 3rd abuse report : [Fwd: Re: HELP!OFF TOPIC]Mar 7, 2001, 5:59pm

For ananas, it was, since his post also went to the abuse adress of AFM's
ISP. But casay just replied to ananas, so no need to show the original abuse there. rolu NewYork's 2nd AnniversaryMar 19, 2001, 9:39am
Can't you two snip a bit of unneeded text out of your replies? They are
getting quite large. rolu [View Quote] NewYork's 2nd AnniversaryMar 20, 2001, 6:29pm

I'm not hitting anyone, just asking them politely.
> I'm NOT going to take any sides on the issues that > Just In & Chucks Party are doing here... BUT dosen't that same > message you gave to Just In about snipping his messages also apply > to Chucks Party. Yes, it does. Now look at my post again, and see that I said "you two". I was talking to both Just In and Chuck's Party. So, what's your problem here? > AND for that matter... Most everyone here who loves to see the > messages grow to some ungodly size... As you might have noticed, it's not the first time I ask someone to snip. But the other people weren't posting messages with large parts of junk in it right then, so I didn't talk to them. rolu > > <rolu <rolu.university at bigfoot.com> wrote in > <3ab5efe2 at server1.Activeworlds.com>: > NewYork's 2nd AnniversaryMar 21, 2001, 8:03pm

Don't think so. But even then, it's wasted time/bandwidth (lots of people
are paying by the minute or even by the second), and it's also a very annoying habit. rolu NewYork's 2nd AnniversaryMar 22, 2001, 4:52pm

My newsreader tells me what the size is - but I download everything at once
and read and reply offline. Some people have to pay by the minute, you know. Also, I did not talk about a size limit. I don't care if a post is 30kb, if there is 30kb of usefull text in it. I *do* have a problem with 30kb posts which contain only 1 or 2kb of usefull text because the people who wrote them are too lame to snip the unrelevant parts. This doesn't only make them large - even more annoying is that it clutters the posts (e.g. when you have to scroll eight pages to get to the actual reply). Come on, how difficult is it to select a bunch of text and hit delete? It makes your posts easier to read and saves other people's bandwith (and therefore also some time and money). rolu Hey people...Mar 12, 2001, 8:57am

There are hardly any real flames here. Most of the "flaming" is when someone
does something stupid and other people tell that person about it. Some people can't stand that and start an argument over it and then complain about all the "flaming" in this newsgroup. Stupid things are, for example, posting large attachments, not snipping extremely large messages, abusing grammar and punctuation to the point where it becomes hard to read, etc - anything that could have easily been prevented if the poster had read a page about nettiquette. People who don't do stupid things like that can still get into an argument over some topics here - but so be it. It's a discussion forum after all. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you know how to participate in a discussion :-) rolu My complaint about the news groupsMar 12, 2001, 9:09am

Like you, now?
If you don't want to r ead it, just don't. Nobody forces you, and apparently some people do think it's worth the discussion. If you don't like it, fine to me, but don't try to force people to stop discussing something. Just filter the thread out and you are done. > > 2 - > MIS-Spel, MIS-Typ > > Look... Not all of us are Whiz Kids who have had 50 yrs of schooling > in how to type well OR spell well... > Just learn to read between the MIS whatever and enjoy the read. If you want to tell the group something, it can be expected that you take some effort to be understandable. The people who can't type or spell should learn to type and spell - not the other way around. If you get corrected on your spelling or grammar - just *learn* from it. > > 3 - All the other I HATE you & YOU HATE me stuff.... Please > Where is the HELP i need info? > It's being shafted. What's your point? > > MY SUGGESTION... > Create one more newsgroup heading called GARBAGE > and then all of these ppl that want to blame all the Just In's > And all the FriendAP'a & all the Chucks Party's and everyone else > can all go post in the GARBAGE one. Anyone who like to read that JUNK > can read the GARBAGE group. Not realistic. Nobody is going to post in a garbage group just because you think it is garbage. > But please.... Leave the general chat for the newbies and others who are > trying to find out some info > and need that info... It's hard to go through all the tons of CRAP to > find the really few messages that deserve to be read. Tons of crap? Where did you get that idea? Now listen, this is a community newsgroup, and therefore people are discussing community things. This includes disputes. Again, it's easy to filter out a thread if you get bored with it. And now stop whining about this. It's getting boring. > > That is why i usually stay in the BOT & World Owners areas... You should have stayed there if you can't handle this area. > At least most of everything there is to read... Is not filled > with I HATE YOU's ir You are DUMMY or other CRAP. No - that's what *you* think is crap. Other people do not consider it crap. Don't like it? Go back to the other newsgroups. But let the people here discuss it if they want. > > Thanxxx to all of the noce ppl here... > I'll go back into the BETTER more enjoyable reading areas now. "better", hehehe. Sure. > > Ohhhh..... For those of you that want to make a gripe... > FINE.... I can take it. > I might not read it for weeks though... But i can take it... > SO FIRE away with all your I HATE YOU & You HATE ME and SOMEONE HATES > AW or anything else you hate... I think you misunderstand something. Did I say I hate you? No. I disagree with you. But that doesn't mean I hate you. That's a very big difference - learn to see it. > > BUT that is my ONLY hate... > Countdown!Mar 12, 2001, 7:15pm

Are there any other things we can do to make you leave? Or run in front of a train or something? On the other hand, running in front of a train is not nice for the people nearby. Jump into a river and drown instead. > then I said I was leaving when my cit expired Yeah, fine. Big deal. If your cit expires, you can't post here anymore. We all know that. So what? Ran scandisk (or equivalent)?
Ran defrag (or equivalent)? Does it happen in every directory/disk, or only certain directories/one disk? In case you get the error in some directories/disks only, how many files/directories are there in the directories that give you a problem? Do you have fat16 or fat32? How much free space do you have? :-) Go to google (www.google.com) and search for "file system error (1026)", see if something comes up. Good chance a bunch of people already encountered this problem and put their solutions online. rolu Need helpMar 21, 2001, 8:03pm

Don't worry. They are not really serious about it. They just have a rather
weird (but funny) sense of humour. Take a look at their own press release: http://www.despair.com/demotivators/frownonthis.html. If you read between the lines you'll see that it's actually a kind of protest against the insane intellectualy property laws. And if you are at the site, also take a look at their products. They sell things like posters with beautiful pictures on them, accompanied by a text like "No matter how great and destructive your problems may seem now, remember, you've probably only seen the tip of them" or "The harder you try, the dumber you look". Perfect for pessimists, but it still gives me a good laugh every time I visit their site :-) And the design is really good. By the way: you can now buy :-('s for $5 each. The standard version is $0 for a limited time, though. rolu No early april jokeMar 22, 2001, 7:54pm

Yeah. Suppose someone would patent clicking on things to buy them online or
something silly like that. oh, wait... >. I was just wondering about the fact that an > emoticon is protectable. Doesn't really make sense. But if someone would try to protect an emoticon and would actually enforce it, that person would be in big trouble :-) He'd get the whole emoticon-using internet against him. > The whole thing shows how far in the past these lawyers live. (I'll use the three dots as long as no one has trademarked them yet > ...). As far as I see it, they just allow everybody to register anything - as long as they have a large pile of money of course - and then see if the patent holds up in court in case someone wants to fight it. But since that costs huge piles of money too, you are usually safe from everything smaller than you. > (No one who wants to make money and registers the word Dot?) You'd be surprised how many weird things are already patented... (unless you keep track of what happens, then nothing surprises you anymore :-) rolu No early april jokeMar 22, 2001, 8:28pm

There was an ISP here. They seemed to do quite well. Then, one week, they
got two to three months of payment from everybody, where they normally got only one or two months. This seemed ok - it was payment time, and they had changed a few things in their subscriptions in the month before. One week later, they were bankrupt. Nobody had seen it coming, and everybody had paid about $50 to $75 for those 3 months - or actually that week - of access. Legally, it was completely ok what they did. Fortunately, most people (including me) paid automatically - and you can reverse such a payment up to a month after it is processed. Which a lot of people did. Still, they got a lot of money from the people who didn't knew they could reverse it. And if they had waited for a month, they would have had about 2 months of money without providing service. And this is not unique. So, indeed - if they are really almost broke, it's in their best interest to tell nobody about it, get money from a bunch of new subscriptions/renewals, and use that money to pay the companies they owe money to, which would otherwise sue them to death. rolu |
