If you are 100% right, more the reason to remove pornographic material.
I will not take the credit for influencing anyone else to report pornographic material that is eventually removed. You do it at your own reward and I commend you if you do. [View Quote] A brighter and better Active Worlds!!! Tom, please readJun 7, 2001, 8:54pm
Feel free to cut and snip. Like I said, I won't add it back later.
As far as what goes on in other countries, I respect their leaders actions to do so as they fit. I am in the USA, and there isn't a law I know of that states "Those found not cutting and snipping text from Newsgroups will be hung on sight". It just isn't there, I am sorry. Like I said before a few times, if you wish to cut posts (which you aren't
doing yourself as to set an example of), I can assure you I won't put them back in. [View Quote] A brighter and better Active Worlds!!! Tom, please readJun 8, 2001, 12:09am
Thanks for your support regarding the porn issue. As for posting the
conversation which took place in a public world, it is my understanding Tech Talk with Roland, among other possible events logs chats and posts them as well for people to read within the Active World's community. If it is a wrong, then Active Worlds is doing it themself. [View Quote] A brighter and better Active Worlds!!! Tom, please readJun 8, 2001, 1:01am
I don't use the mic on voice chat programs, been that way since 97 when I
tried out Mplayer's service. Why? cause I don't want my voice recorded. When I am in public settings, use your restaurant as an example, I don't say things I don't want copied or transliterated into some other format. As common courtesy, I suggest you do the same. When people connect to the internet, they fail to realize that they are exposing themself just as if they were out in a public restaurant and people overheard their conversation. If others over see us chatting here, there is nothing to stop them from copying and sending it to friends, etc.... That's just the way it is. There is a copy and paste option within Windows. If you don't want your text to be copied and pasted, don't type it. Take responsibility for your actions. As this relates to Active Worlds, and as common courtesy to those others who respect the rules of not displaying pornographic material, I do it by not posting porn in public areas and I post information to the communities I know of who might be effected by it so they can become better informed. I hope this helps everyone in the end as a whole, despite the short term disputes which arise out of misunderstandings. [View Quote] A brighter and better Active Worlds!!! I posted it and people asked me questions like you are doing. Correct me if
I am wrong, but this newsgroup does facilitate questions and answers doesn't it? That's why I respond. If you are reading this and you don't want a response, then don't respond. I am active in "Active" worlds, and I respond. As for GET and PK's, I went them with no success during the month of April. I then emailed Tom at activeworlds.com and he stated recently that they appeared to decide that pornographic material was ok in their public world. I went to the servers holding the pornographic material, and 2-3 weeks later in May, the account was completey closed resulting in static images where this person who referenced the material. and with that, that's about it. Tell that to Active Worlds when they log chat sessions such as Tech Talk
with Roland. And then tell that to AOL who logs chats. Tell that to the maker of Power Tools who has a log option for chat in AOL. Tell that to the whole irc group of users who log chats. Tell that to the makers of irc chat programs. Tell that to all programmers who make a text chat program whereby people can log chats. What you are saying doesn't really address morals, but more of a way to attack me for bringing something to people's attention which you appeat to not like. I am doing a courteous act and notifying the community which I am part of about pornographic material found in Active Worlds. People have shown support in here and in chat programs including Active Worlds of my actions. If I held it to myself and didn't bring it out to the open, it wouldn't be addressed nor would it make me feel like I am doing anything to help the problem get fixed. As for your report analogy, I am not here to get a grade nor am I trying to take credit for originality of 100% of the post. That is what people do when they copy other people's works and put them in a report. They get 100% of the grade, I am not. Whoever talked should have the credit. Nothing was taken out of context, and it was raw data just like the logs mentioned here. [View Quote] A brighter and better Active Worlds!!! Tom, please readJun 8, 2001, 7:48am
Also, I just realized this. People don't know who is behind the screen they
type. Thethe sender can telegram to one screen name thinking only 1 person who is typing is talking to them privately, but there could be a group of people in the room reading the telegram from the sender. Should everyone close their eyes while the person typing gets the sender's permission? LOL [View Quote] A brighter and better Active Worlds!!! Tom, please readJun 8, 2001, 9:24am
"And unlike your chats, we want to read the Tech Talk logs."
If you don't want to read them, DON'T!! That simple. As for dragging this "porn" issue out, there were levels of understanding I needed to establish, being new to here and developing my position I TOOK MANY PRECAUTIONS before coming here, and I did many things to make sure that I was not doing something Active Worlds didn't want. Level 1 - observation stage After seeing the porn, I discussed it with other citizens like myself. They didn't like it and commented on it. Level 2 - question stage I went to Peacekeepers, gatekeepers, and teachers who help out Active Worlds. I told the teacher who taught me how to build and he went to look. He didn't do much after that but acknowledged it was there. He probably Active Worlds wouldn't do anything about it. Level 3 - first stage of reporting I went to Peacekeepers first at Ground Zero in AW regarding the porn I found. After being told there was nothing they could do since they are only peacekeepers, I went to gatekeepers. At this time in mid April, if my memory serves me correct Baron from http://www.peacekeeper.net/specialrt.htm initiated contact with me and telegrammed me. We discussed briefly the process, though this person never contacted me again nor did they advise me to fill out any GET form which would have been obtained by clicking a trash can at Ground Zero in AW. Level 4 - second stage of reporting Realizing that Active Worlds may not be an organization to solely go on one person's actions, I then went down my contact list and notified everyone online at that time and about 2 other occassions about the incident I encountered finding pornographic material and trying to find a way to remove it. Eventually I gave the coordinates to people I knew were adults to the best of my knowledge, and I received a suggestion from one contact who said I should contact the server holding the porn. Level 5 - third stage of reporting I didn't want to report the porn to the server until I talked with the owner of the world. It clearly shows Tom at activeworlds.com as the contact so I emailed him through my AOL account. Level 6 - fourth stage of reporting Three strikes you are out of there. After getting no response from Baron, Tom, or activeworlds after other citizens reported the pornographic material, I finally emailed the server holding the porn. Within 2-3 weeks after, I went back to the spot where the pornographic material was referenced, and I found out the account was completely closed that held the porn. Since that, my actions have transferred to the newsgroup. I have reported the material gone, I have found out Tom with another group of people decided to keep the porn up, and I went to talk to the person who made the build with porn in it. If there are any more details I remember regarding this I will let you know and I hope you are now informed of what I have been through. M a r c u s: Do you think pornographic material should be confined to worlds
considered private with this red circle? Sassysha: actually yes, I dont consider My things pornographic, but porn and other damaging material like death pictures by a citizen i saw once, very disturbing, should not be on public worlds -------- This was taken from the following conversation. Even the person who put up the pornographic material realized it should not have been up, and they changed additional pictures when I showed them that they contained nudity. Operator: You have a telegram. Telegram from Sassysha, sent just now: I don't know why the pictures arent working, the urls probably changed....may I join on you to see this? Immigration Officer: Welcome to WildAW - This is a un-moderated world! Parental discretion is advised - Be part of the WildAW GZ Midi contest - Just send the best midi you can find that you think is fitting for WildAW and send it to me - Tom at activeworlds.com Immigration Officer: You are being joined by Sassysha. Sassysha: alright, just loading a little M a r c u s M a r c u s: ok Sassysha: ohhh Sassysha: the url must have changed, it wasnt Mine Sassysha: I get lazy sometimes out here, because I play around with all of this Sassysha: would You like to see the house? M a r c u s: yes Sassysha: its not deathly or anything, i know the filenames are strange Sassysha: its fantasy roleplay game stuff Sassysha: jahni, prostrate before speaking boy Sassysha: this way M a r c u s :) Sassysha: the big glasshouse thing isnt Mine M a r c u s: just so you know, I don't work with Active Worlds in any capacity outside of just being a citizen Sassysha: I dont have anything to hide ~laughs~ I just thought it might be interesting to show someone around who found My place M a r c u s: ok M a r c u s: may I ask you a question Sassysha: sure :) M a r c u s: how old are you? Sassysha: late twenties Sassysha: and You? M a r c u s: same here, 27 to be exact Sassysha: good stuff ;) Sassysha: a lot of kids around M a r c u s: Did you know children can access this area? Sassysha: but you get used to the warning signs ~laughs~ Sassysha: yes i know Sassysha: do you have a problem? Sassysha: its just based on some sci fi books, its interesting to recreate the style of building jahni TGT: this lowly slave kneels to the ground and presses his forehead roughly against the dirt pleading with his Mistress to allow him entrance Sassysha: ~looks at him~ M a r c u s: Children can come here and see some of the pictures I find personally objectionable for children to see. At the same time, I want you to have the role-playing environment you have created. M a r c u s: How can we do this? Sassysha: I understand, but most that pass by here telegram me and they are generally other builders, not children Sassysha: this is on the edge of the world :) Sassysha: lots of Gorean spots along this edge M a r c u s: I didn't telegram you and I found it jahni TGT: his hands extended out into the dusty earth in submission to his dark Mistress Sassysha: well actually yes Sassysha: enter jahni and come here pet Sassysha: you did M a r c u s: It's not that I don't want it in Active Worlds, I just think there should be an adult section for this material where children can't access. Sassysha: i get grams about how pretty it is, people love the desert theme and tele me to tell me they liked it Sassysha: well thats why I keep the hard core stuff to My home world in AW M a r c u s: Are you aware people reported the area I showed you to Active Worlds during the month of April? Sassysha: this is just experimental building a nice tame holiday home, so to speak jahni TGT: thelowly boy kneels at the beautiful Mistress's side, bathing in the power radiating from her body Sassysha: no thats interesting M a r c u s: Apparently, they decided your pictures were ok, even though children could get access to it Sassysha: if someone emailed me with problems from activeworlds, then i would hear that way, but since wildaw is unmoderated, its more free in building styles M a r c u s: that makes sense Sassysha: well hmm, no more pictures lol M a r c u s: Yes, since Active Worlds did not take the pictures down, a group of people reported it to the server holding the pictures Sassysha: im sorry that you find it offensive M a r c u s, not my intention to harm anyones children or such, not many people come out here is all Sassysha: and all this time no one telegrammed me, thats strange M a r c u s: and I don't think you meant it, I am trying to find a middle ground here Sassysha: of course i didnt Sassysha: they were pretty female art, paintings and i liked them. M a r c u s: Sassy, the reason why I waited was because I wanted to establish what Active Worlds allows and doesn't allow Sassysha: mmhmm M a r c u s: Sassy, I agree they were, but I don't think they would be suitable in a children's classroom Sassysha: ill save it next time lol Sassysha: sorry to offend You M a r c u s, children shouldnt be unsupervised anywhere, i wouldnt let my children if i had them online unsupervised, this is a barren part of the world, i hardly ever meet anyone and i am out here a lot with friends. M a r c u s: I found one picture in the building here showing nudity, and I am asking that you remove it. Sassysha: wheres this M a r c u s. M a r c u s: I'll show you Sassysha: in here is My slaves , not Mine M a r c u s: ok, the name is ambika sas, this is not you? Sassysha: no, the Sas is my collar, ambika is the individual Sassysha: different person M a r c u s: Do you talk to this person still? Sassysha: but I have access to all her privileges as her owner Sassysha: i will change it in her stead M a r c u s: I see M a r c u s: thanks Sassysha: youre welcome, i am civil lol M a r c u s: So far, the ironic part is, you have been the only one who has within the past 2 months Sassysha: of who? Sassysha: how is that for you M a r c u s: I think that is fine, I wouldn't consider it under the category of pornographic material Sassysha: ~nods~ Sassysha: is thereanything else bothering you? M a r c u s: not in here, are there other areas you post pictures that might be as objectionable? Sassysha: dont think so Sassysha: not in this world ~laughs~ M a r c u s: Right, do you have pornographic material in any other worlds that children may have access to? Sassysha: no, they are private worlds Sassysha: like I said, this is just a nice quiet away place to try out different decoration schemes, have some fun M a r c u s: by private you mean with a red circle next to their name? Sassysha: yes M a r c u s: Ok, 1 final quesion if I may M a r c u s: Do you think pornographic material should be confined to worlds considered private with this red circle? One way to make them listen is to simply not sign up next year for anything
that would require you to pay them. Sign in and use their tourist feature until you see it operate the way you want it to. That's what I intend on doing when my citizenship runs out. I have only been here for 6 months and I have seen the shabby service you are talking about. I feel sorry for you veterans who waited on promises, I would have told you then they would never come through. Until Active Worlds incorporates ideas and suggestions, they will only have themselves to service. [View Quote] Re: Nav2001 AntiVirus Issue...Jun 26, 2001, 8:38pm

means you can dictate what goes where. Not even Tom who posted a charter earlier could layout what is acceptable and not in either NG. Either way it is another step towards segregating the group, and yours is of dictatorship. Neither addresses equality of the people. Why not allow us to moderate our own area and develop sovereignty within the group? If people like Eep and Wing stopped complaining = about=20 the pointless things in everyone's posts it would save us a headache = and a lot=20 of downloading time. When people complain about this, it just = makes=20 everyone have to download more posts. Why not think of that the = next=20 time you complain about posting in html or another pointless off-topic = thing.</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000 size=3D3> <HR> </FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT Tony Tony Tony, don't you think a better approach is to ask Active Worlds,
after all it is their board. I doubt people's isp servers will have the authority to say what is and is not acceptable on someone else's server. Let's say someone (Fred) hypothetically uses their personal account for things that fall under violation of terms of service with their isp and are forced to use a different service by the isp (like switchover to a business account), then maybe you have a good thing to report Fred. However, this just makes you look like you are crying wolf. Active Worlds has not posted here with anything to censor us. If there is abuse, it is on your end.
