I really do not think that vandalism would be a huge problem. It does not
seem like it is a huge problem right now. "stay" move command.Nov 3, 2003, 4:35am
Along the same lines, I think we have proven to AWI that we can be trusted
with move commands. It doesn't seem like AWTeen is full of people vandalising, and AW consists of a more mature userbase. How about enabling move commands in AW as well? ;) *knows that this post is pointless, AWI listening.. what nonsense!* Area FullOct 31, 2003, 5:02pm
change how it processes objects. make it so the BI "inspects" the building
after the first object was removed and the second object was placed. the problem is that it "inspects" the building while the two objects are there. Detachable tabsNov 6, 2003, 11:47pm
a small feature, but it would be nice to be able to detach certain tabs
(contacts, telegrams, teleports.. etc) and make them so you can resize them and position them anywhere you want. New Registering Screen on AW WebsiteNov 14, 2003, 2:33am
just like how it is illegal for a U.S. software company to distribute games
with blood/gore in them to Germany. every company has to follow the laws of any country they distribute their product in. New Registering Screen on AW WebsiteNov 14, 2003, 5:20am
you can smoke a cuban cigar in the united states, but it is illegal to
distribute them. but yeah there are ways to get around it, but I doubt that AWI would transgress the laws of whatever country it has customers in (it probably already has inadvertently, but nobody is whiny enough to call their government) Active Worlds CouncilNov 20, 2003, 3:49am
there's no way active worlds will have a council to discuss what they are
doing. why do you think they split off from the shell company, AWLD? Set commands so they can be done in sequenceDec 1, 2003, 2:56am
I think the purpose would be to make sequences more user-friendly, without
having a mess of astarts Set commands so they can be done in sequenceDec 9, 2003, 11:30pm
for you maybe, but not for most people. I've met so many long-time AW
citizens who have no idea how to use astarts [View Quote] simple command to help visibilityDec 1, 2003, 2:55am
couldn't this be used to vandalize though? someone in another property sets

well, despite the possibility of vandalism (this is off-subject) we've all
been waiting for move and rotate commands in alphaworld for much too long! the long term advantages to having special commands in alphaworld far outweighs the possibility of vandalism. besides, it's a good change to give GET a kick in the butt to start becoming more active in case there ARE more vandalisms. Object Pushing - A MUST!!Dec 16, 2003, 5:10am
Well, some people have already made things where the object has to move
through you, it would be more flexible if it was just a simple command/s (create push, which would simply bump the avatar around I.E. elevators, and create sticky, which would fuse the avatar to the object (unless someone held shift) allowing the object to push or pull the avatar) it would not be that hard to impliment. There is already object push to a certain degree, but you have to keep walking around for the collision detection to occur and for the object to push you. With the added commands, one could simply push a button while they are standing in the elevator, and the elevator would push them upwards (and pull them downwards as well, as right now the avatars would just remain floating in the air if the object moved out from under them.) There would have to be a limit though to make the command vandalism-safe, since you wouldn't want people vandalizing with objects pushing you 10,000 coords in one direction [View Quote] Solution-well kindaDec 17, 2003, 1:00am
=0 you would have to assign weights to different avatars. for instance,
virgil would simply fall through objects with gravity on them, while other avatars wouldn't [View Quote] automatic built-in chat censoringJan 2, 2004, 7:11am
what about that annoying customs aide bot? what if so many words became
censored that you couldn't talk about certain things? if AWI applied the same filter from the customs aide bot and put it on alphaworld... *shiver* community and general discussion?Jan 1, 2004, 6:26am

no, but I have been away in california, away from the computer, for a week.
new AW objects?Jan 2, 2004, 7:09am
I heard that Lara won an AWTrivia contest and got the right to submit
various objects to the alphaworld object path, what is going to become of this? I thought they were supposed to be submitted a few weeks ago. Is this just another disappointment from AWI? Rights are Like MusclesJan 5, 2004, 5:53pm

how about some 3d foliage?? no more of that sprite stuff, the foliage in
thebeans is great, if only that could be in AW. the current sprite foliage is 10 year old technology [View Quote] AW MapperJan 7, 2004, 2:05am
AWTeen already has a mapper, ptolemy used to always update it. and you know
from experience that AW doesn't want dedicated people in positions where they could make a difference :P [View Quote] Shadows AGAIN !Jan 8, 2004, 5:10am
active worlds is already capable of putting in reflections, it could be a
performance option, so those with good computers might be attracted to AW's nice reflections. it could possibly be a command "create reflection (texture name)" which puts a texture that the object should reflect [View Quote] fog and steam in AWJan 11, 2004, 8:27am
I saw what orb said in a previous thread, and decided to discuss this, is it
possible with renderware 3 to have patches of fog and steam? how well would it work? would it just lag people out to have particle effects? (that's what I'm assuming fog and steam are, particle effects, I may be wrong) unable to subscribe to "community"Jan 16, 2004, 1:04am
I am searching through all the available newsgroups on news.activeworlds.com
so I can re-subscribe to the community newsgroup, but I can't find it, community is not listed. I thought the community newsgroup was back up the ability to seed without botsJan 19, 2004, 6:55am
It would be nice to be able to seed objects using only your AW client. Why
must you need a nearby object to seed your own? It seems to me like a simple idea that has never been implimented. It could solve so many problems (I.E. an empty private world, and you could simply seed an object in front of you, or the ability to seed an object in AW without the hassle of a bot, as some people's computers crash when using bots) the ability to seed without botsJan 20, 2004, 12:04am
what codewarrior said, that simple feature could save so much hassle. I
mean, the seedbot no longer works in alphaworld. aren't bots just different clients under the same username? the ability to seed without botsJan 20, 2004, 5:13am
I find it ironic that it's the private programmers not in any way affiliated
with AWinc (or COF at the time) who figured out how to seed objects from nothing. All this requires is adding in a few lines of code into the browser, which I assume are similar to the lines of code used in the seedbots, since those are clients as well. more up-to-date graphics supportJan 20, 2004, 5:01am
on 3dmark, my fps go well above 500fps at times, but in AW, a program that
has much fewer polygons in view, not to mention the lack of shadows, pixel shaders, reflections, and particle effects, I never go above 100. There should be a way for AW to have more support for the current graphics cards. It would be nice to go in AW in a dense area at 200 meter visibility, and get high framerates. I'm assuming this has already been discussed, but I just want to know why this can't be done. more up-to-date graphics supportJan 20, 2004, 9:59pm
but a cinema movie runs differently than a 3d world. a cinema movie blurs
each frame to give the effect of a smooth framerate. In a 3d world, there is no blurring, so you can see several frames each time the optical nerves fire off. anyway, I am just talking about improving framerates in general. I'm not saying that they have to go above 100, but I am saying that they have to go above 20 at least, in a dense area at 200 meters. and about the simulation where I got 500 fps, it was fully dynamic, and it had a lot more polygons than in AW at 200 meters (at gz) |
