I'm not smacking you Sweets. I know you have an issue with the current
rating system. I do understand that, but I can't get my head around why. I know by saying that, that I have the potential to have my ear talked off... and I welcome it. This current project by these guys is to attempt to create a facsimily of an already existing project. Call it an objective goal. Granted, it may not be original, but if they can duplicate it in an AW environment with its limitations, then we have something quite sweet. It also stretches our collective imaginations and makes it possible, if not feasible, to go beyond these goals in future projects. People, citizens, builders, modelers only have to be shown what is possible before they start taking leaps and stretches of imagination themselves. Sometimes it takes someone to stetch the existing bounds in order to start a revolution. I know AW is capable of so much more than we are doing, but I currently don't have the vision to see what it is... I sure hope one of these guys does. And from the video I saw, they may very well have it. Please support them. [View Quote] Grand Theft Auto ProjectMay 20, 2006, 1:25am
I do not see sex or violence in games or VR to be wrong as long as the
correct age groups are permitted. This inevitably means the parents of children taking responsibility. Some kids can take on reality sooner than others, it is the parents ultimate choice. However, there is no parenting book that can possibly cover all angles. As a service technician I have seen way too many points of view on this subject. I have seen the spoiled kids and way over protected kids. Unfortunately, even with my point of view, I can not see any perfect answer. But, regardless, as a human being believing in free expression and free speech, I refuse to deny someone else such privledges. I personally believe we over protect and thus squash many peoples inate rights as a result, in the perception that we are protecting them against themselves. People deserve to make their own mistakes... whether positive, negative or even lethal. As long as someone does not directly interfere with the liberty and well being of another individual, then I feel that they have a right to do whatever they dang well please. I realise this has both positive and negative effects. On a world wide scale, it has negitive effects in that it can damage an american society in competition with other less free societies, but on the other side of the coin it opens the ultimate avenues of expression, free thought and will. Oddly enough, many other societies claim to be more open and accepting of sex and violence. But since I have no experience within them, I can not voice an opinion. Having said all of that, I believe that GTA, as well as other violent games should be permitted. Although I very much agree that the maturity of the party playing the game should be considered and that this can only be evaluated by a responsible party familiar with the individual in question and not some law that attempts to blanket a segment of the population due to some generic qualification. When it comes to this particular project, I see a group of very talented young people attempting to take an out dated 3d modeling program and stretching it to its ultimate limits. I am 100% sure that there is no possibility to make this 100% successful, not even with the promises of the next generation AW browser 4.1, but I am extremely confident in the intelligence of this team and future members to accomplish amazing wonders with it and even to surpass many prior achievements. Well, I can give you access to a P-10 if you like. Not much, but it doesn't
expire until January. Gram me if interested. Visit Serene at least OnceMay 19, 2006, 1:24am
ok, I am self centered, but before I restart Serene, please visit it at
least once. You can go every cardinal direction and discover something new. East is my favorite... but most people, even I, get sick going that direction. It has to do with the animations. So, bring a nice paper bag with you before you visit. It is my current intention to let the current Serene live for another week and then rebuild her into something very different. I do hope you enjoy your brief visit however and that you do not feel too ill for your experience! Hehehe :P~ LurkingMay 20, 2006, 4:21am
Yes, once upon a time you used to be able to go to AW Gate and.... be
annonymous.... but no more. If you go there, everyone will be able to see your name. Personally I have found the change to be irritating. I came to rely on the annominity, especially after reinstalling the browser... even on friends machines hundreds of miles away from my own home... in order to show them other worlds. I don't like the change, but there is little, if nothing, we can do about it. LurkingMay 20, 2006, 4:29am
Yes indeed, it does encourage us to be something other than we are. Why do
they encourage us to be tourists when they obviously want us to be citizens? It's a mystery! Although I have no intent of leaving AW, I am reducing, severely, my activities within it. This however is only 1 very small reason. But, all the reasons combined are having a large impact on my desires. I think some serious thought needs to be made into AW policy. LurkingMay 20, 2006, 4:33am
Well, you shouldn't have to. You paid for an account, and you should have
the right to make it public or private. Instead, they are making you login as a tourist for your privacy... which is absurd. > I don't like it either, but I guess if I really need to, I can re-log in > as a tourist. I'll just have to think of some new names. :) Don't use that budget program I madeMay 25, 2006, 4:03am
Damn I thought that program was pretty cool... dang lucky I didn't use it
past the novelty stage. :) I wish you much luck on your future versions however :))) My Birthday (of sorts)May 30, 2006, 12:06am
I'm confused, but thats nothing new, but the fact that it is your 10000 hour
birthday is something special and you decided it to POST about it... huh.. well, I have been here 1 year before you... ermm, 1999... and well, I can not hold a candle to you for your time spent... mine is less than 44 hundred hours... not sure if that is good or bad... most of that time was building in AW... and I used to chart on the top 10 list of imatowns... but I haven't checked in 5 years, so I have no clue if I do now anyhow.. and mostly since then I have built in private worlds... so probably not. :) Either way, I hope you enjoy your adda-boys etc. :) Please keep up the AW support in both news and utilties tho :) Be well! :) OLD windoze? *poke* No worries.. I think the Win95'rs of the world will survive
somehow... even the Win3.1'rs are still doing their thing... only they know why tho! :) As an odd note, back in the early Mac days(what we call Mac Classics now) there was some really awesome graphics and desktop publishing softwares that even todays WinXP and OSX softwares have not duplicated. Why is that? :) There is even some awesome DOS graphics programs that neither has duplicate either.... I really don't get it. I'm turning blue...May 29, 2006, 9:57pm
God bless America, God bless the world. I personally feel this should be a
world wide holiday... and well, I have a lot more to say on the matter but I won't today. God bless you all. "In this place where valor sleeps, we acknowledge our responsibility as Americans to preserve the memory of the fallen. On this Memorial Day, we look out on quiet hills, and rows of white headstones -- and we know that we are in the presence of greatness." - President Bush. I'm turning blue...May 29, 2006, 10:59pm
Well, for better or worse, I still hope it happens today :) Even if it has
bugs, I still want to play witht the new features :) And well, the idea of 512 terrain textures peeks my curiosty :) Probably still not enough, but sure better than 63 :) hehe. I'm letting all of my worlds expire, except 1... when it does expire I will be more than doubling its size... which will cost a pretty penny... a shiny one, but I plan to have some fun with it and hopefully use the new version of AW to its fullest. As is, I have made a p100 island in a p50 world... but am still working out the terrain textures... and I think you know that isn't easy... you can never be satified with the textures :) I've also used one of Andras' programs to generate all the trees in that p50 world... with a bit of difficulty... but it's turning out really nice. I plan on making lots of experiments like this, up until the time this world expires... then I will renew it to its designed size(meaning I have to save money!) and then redo it all again. :) From there I will add some real content... not that a forest isn't fun by itself :) I'm turning blue...May 29, 2006, 11:35pm
Well, I had 6 worlds, 3 were p10's, 3 were p50's... soon I one of the p50's
will expire... ermmm 4 days from now... and 2 months from now the last p50 will expire... when that happens I will change it to a p100... though I will balk at the price for a couple of days most likely. I will have to save money in order to do this... and then next year have to make the hard choice again ROFL. *sigh* [View Quote] I'm turning blue...May 29, 2006, 11:57pm
OMG, I am an adult, but durn it, I remember being a kid... why do the adults
of today insist on making our kids into adults way to early? I think it has to do with the fact that adults don't have the ability to prevent kids from accessing adult material anymore at such a young age, so instead of stopping it, they embrace it and push it too soon regardless. But heck, I really don't know... just wish it would stop. I'm turning blue...May 30, 2006, 12:33am
OK, so you are turning blue too eh? ROFL... frankly there are not enough
people here to reply to every post on a moments notice... sometimes you must wait for a day or two for the multitudes of relies you expect to get ;))) I'm turning blue...May 30, 2006, 1:29am
Errrrm, ummm.... oh yeah... I am a world owner... and well... umm.. yes, I
do model some... though I never show any skin... and well, sometimes I yell and scream when I don't get my way... but honestly... I am a nice fella :P~~ In the next several hours..May 30, 2006, 4:42am
....I will be called on my cell phone and lol that AW has stopped working or
has stopped responding.... when it really has not.... but in time... some folks will.. :) its just an "adjustment" and we will all have to get used to it... so... I wish you all the best of luck... and that you can all start speaking bug at a moments notice. ;) But in time, I will start speaking bug out of irritation.... so please don't blame me for your inadequacies.... hmmm, learn BUG now... before you are forced into it ;D In the next several hours..May 30, 2006, 4:50am
Well, apparently that was much funnier in person. :) So, I still wish you
all non-funny folks much... ahem... unfunnism. :) In the next several hours..May 30, 2006, 12:09pm

Well, RULE#2 Read my even posts, but never my ODD ones.
In the next several hours..May 30, 2006, 11:34pm
Well, I told you so. ;) It did stop responding. Did you learn Bug? The sky
is falling too you know? Aliens are on the way to take over as well. ;) Oh, and I received 2 phone calls regarding it. Weird. I may have second sight.... ermm, or maybe not. *ponders* Problems with 4.1May 30, 2006, 11:20pm
It went BOOM. I was able to get all the files downloaded, over 25mbs for 1
world ;p You can go back, even with the server down, just start the 4.1 browser, SKIP the logon, then teleport to AWGate... then explore what you had already downloaded. I think I got about 75% of the world in my cache... I uploaded it to www.darkestdestiny.com/cache.zip (25Mb download). Just unzip it into your Active Worlds directory where the cache should be, then follow the directions in the previous paragraph. Happy exploring... until the 4.1 uni comes back online. The particle effects for the waterfall are way cool... and the flowers falling from the peach tree forest are too cool. The dandilions releasing their seeds into the air aint half bad either. Oh, as a caution, DO NOT click on the lawn gnome near GZ! tehehehe [View Quote] Problems with 4.1May 30, 2006, 11:31pm
This is a good thing really... the stress test of having close to 100 people
simultaneously downloading 25Mb of data in one world should be an indication that things need to be upgraded. 4.1 World Server Out Now!Jun 2, 2006, 11:29pm
Wow, I can't wait to put my world and play with the new stuff. Woot!

I am so sorry Star. Did you try reinstalling drivers, defraging, etc??? I
doubt it will help, but never know. Also, did you go to the windows website, search for gdiplus.dll and then download and install the .net dll files it suggests? This *might* solve the problems. Goodluck Star!! [View Quote] |
