Some serious problems with 4.1 build 949

Jun 3, 2006, 4:19am
How weird, the previous build caused me some off slowing problems when
switching between 3.6 and 4.1 but since todays update I have not noticed
anything bad. I've been in the newest browser for hours today... course I
wasn't looking at my cpu usage nor was I doing what I normally do either.
Tomorrow I will be better able to judge, now that I have a server running
again, once I start building, playing in Photoshop and messing arount in
3dsMax, I can better decide if I am having the same issues as yourself.

Some serious problems with 4.1 build 949

:/
http://www.darkestdestiny.com/usagechart1.jpg
Shows aworld.exe in the background, with taskmgr in the forground at the
beginning of the chart, you then see a spike to 100% when I click on the
aworld.exe window that then drops to 5% to 20% for the next few minutes
while I am only standing in my world which contains only 2 object
models(about 1000 scattered over a p-50), but I am at vis 200.

http://www.darkestdestiny.com/usagechart.jpg
This chart shows me flying around the world. the longer I flew around, the
higher it seemed to get. Again, vis 200, and only 2 models in the world, but
it is terrained.

Hard to say what real usage will be like, but does seem on the surface to be
a little cpu intensive. If you were using a laptop with a battery, then I
can certainly understand the hesitation to use the new browser, but how does
it compare to the 3.6 browser?

I downloaded the new version and then took a spin around AWGate. Basically
flew around in a square over the "great wall" that borders it, I made sure
my cache was fully downloaded first...

Here is a chart of 3 circuits around the above couse:

http://www.darkestdestiny.com/usagechart2.jpg

That's pretty intensive. :)
Are we letting the gpu do any of the work at all? I'm using an AMD Anthlon
64 3500+ w/1Gb ram, and a nVidia 6800 Ultra with 256Mb ram.

In the middle of AWGate I am getting from 7-20fps... most elsewhere is
around 20-40fps and beyond the "great wall" I get 80 to 100fps.

Guess I am using a different version than you, that menu does not appear to
be there, but I'll keep looking. Maybe it's an addon with your programming
language installed?

While I was in my world, I went to teleport to AW, and it didn't... instead
my terrain in my world disappeared... so I tried teleporting again, nothing
happened then all the objects in my world disappeared, and I ended up being
under water, but barely able to move... just a blue gradient screen. I
looked over at the server and it's showing my IP address with:

06/04/2006 08:59:12:000 Client TIMEOUT: 192.168.1.1:xxxx 0 0

etc, several times.

[4.1 Build 949] Goobzilla

Jun 4, 2006, 5:26pm
I uninstalled that 949c copy of the browser. Seems my garbage problems are
over with... for the moment

Did You Know?

Jun 5, 2006, 12:44am
I'm assuming you reinstalled your graphics drivers. However, before doing so
did you switch your graphics driver to a generic VGA driver? Also, a while
back, some graphics card makers gave out a utility to use as a second step
before installing new driver, and it would completely erase all the old part
of the driver. You might also look into downloading from microsoft that
latest copy of DirectX, even though your automatic updates probably did it
for you many moons ago... can't hurt to rerun it.

Short of the problems with masks, facers and the like, I am having a grand
time graphically speaking. However if I am online using the 949 browser for
a couple of hours it eventually starts getting really slow and if I ignore
it and don't shut it down, windows reboots. Could also be a heat related
issue too since I may be stressing the gpu/cpu with the bazillions of
particles I am using. *shrugs* Need to get myself a monitor for that and
check.

Did You Know?

Jun 6, 2006, 1:10am
I'll check it out, thanks Andras

Did You Know?

Jun 6, 2006, 3:21am
lol, guess I need a couple more fans! Wow does my cpu get hot fast when I go
into AW. Shoots up by 10C in a minute or so, so does the case ambient,
though not as fast, the hard drives go up by a couple of degrees as well
that's just probably part of the cascade from the cpu. I've not tested it
for 2 hrs, will do that tomorrow.

Thanks Cryonics For Fixing My 4.1 Problem!

Jun 4, 2006, 9:36pm
Yes, this fixed my problems as well, but for some reason made it impossible
for me to remain in my world for more than 2 minutes before things went
south. It's in the right direction. I reinstalled 949 without the c so I can
play in my world.

Thanks Cryonics For Fixing My 4.1 Problem!

Jun 4, 2006, 10:25pm
It fixed some problems I was having yesterday and made new ones which I
found to be unacceptable. So I installed the older version instead because I
can live with the old problems for a little while until AWI can fix them
properly without creating new problems I can't live with.

> Okay... this is kind of confusing me... you said it fixed your problem yet
> it made that "impossible" before "things went south". Then you said it's
> in the "right direction". Then you said you "reinstalled 949 without c so
> you can play in your world"? This is kind of back-and-forward. One
> condradiction after another. o_O

Thanks Cryonics For Fixing My 4.1 Problem!

Jun 6, 2006, 1:07am
With the original 949 eventually after and hour or two it starts to freeze
up.. for a couple of seconds at a time, that's when I know I have to shut it
down and reboot so I can use it for a couple of more :)

as I watch it die

Jun 10, 2006, 2:36am
*chuckles* Your precious 3.6 Universe will now live at least until the
16th... it's had a temporary stay of execution. :P~

Thank you AWI :)

Jun 5, 2006, 4:28am
And I mean that seriously. Despite the issues, I have not had so much fun
building in a long time. I think the new features in the browser are just
great! The particle emitters are my favorites, but the zones and movers are
very cool too.

I'd also like very much to thank Andras for all his awesome utilities, time
and support of this community. I know there is no way I could be building
the things I am without them. Thanks for being patient with me. I know I can
be taxing.

Cell limit in AW back to large?

I hope that was a joke. *rolls eyes*

An intriguing question...

But could his post have been at most 1 or 2 paragraphs to make his point? :)
I got glossy eyed after the second paragraph ;)

Personally I find this new ver4.1 telegram crap a pain in the butt.

And, the reason why is that someone can flame you, then revolk your
priveledge to reply in kind in a moments notice. Not only can they piss you
off, but they can rebuke you as well... doubly pissing you off with no means
to retaliate, no means to ammend, no means to do a darn thing. You can't
make up, fess up, or make it worse. You're just **** out of luck period.
Doesn't matter how much you love or hate the person... its absolute.

I think it sucks.

Well, I have discovered that no matter how much you like a person, once they
have blocked you in AW, you are blocked period. There is no apparent way to
make ammends, whether they were right or wrong for thier actions. So thusly,
I also discovered that IF their actions were faked for comercial reasons...
which seems to be absolutely accepted by the community. Don't understand it?
Neither do I.... we don't have enough capital to grasp it!

you won't block me either... I mean, I will do my best not to provolk you

Pix quality ...

Jun 10, 2006, 5:50am
You can make much larger textures for your OP if you want to, I do for some
things, but ultimately the browser shrinks them down to maybe 256x256. I've
been using 1024x1024 for a couple of things, and to me these images look
sharper than equivelant 256x256's I've made on the same objects and terrain.
The sand terrain in Serene looks very sharp to me and I used a large texture
for it. The grass near GZ however I used a smaller image on and it seems a
little blurry and has jpeg artifacts in it which I'd like to fix. I know
some people frown on using large textures, but I like the results.
