Just deleted my cache and noticed a titanic.jpg and titanic.bmp in my splash
directory next to the aw logo file. What is this?? Titanic 3D???Jan 13, 2006, 7:20pm
ok, I was out of it for a year or two :P I went there, interesting. Nice
ship model :) > Try AWEurope universe :) > > www.aw-europe.com Admin toolJan 15, 2006, 2:27am
How do I use the admin.exe tool on another computer in my local network? I
have 1 cable modem, connected to a linksys 4 port router, both the computers are hooked up to the router directly(server and pc I want to use admin on). I keep getting a invalid password error.... even though I've never setup a password. I have file and printer sharing enabled for that pc. I have no problem accessing the other computer thru "My Network Places". I've tried using the computer name and also the local ip address assigned by the router. Admin toolJan 15, 2006, 9:10am
Thanks Andras. I'll nominate myself for the dumb question award. Might even
win :) Why I'll never go to a gor world againJan 20, 2006, 9:40pm
I really want to add my 2 cents, but we don't need to start another debate
on this subject. Read some old debates if they were not deleted from this NG from a couple of years ago. I'm not active in the Gorean community anymore for several reasons, one of which you mentioned Baro. Just be aware that you really can't class a whole group of people as one thing. There are nice people and there are not nice people in any group and that includes the Gorean community here in AW. You may or may not be aware that if you entered these worlds as baro, then you entered under the role of the submissive. If you enter again, enter as Baro. Not saying you should though. Missing: AW's only WikiFeb 5, 2006, 5:40pm
And you have to make sure before you take on such a project that there is
enough community support. If only... we could organize just ... one group... instead of being so fragmented and doing our own projects. Hmm... now what would we call it? ... [View Quote] Crashing in SteelFeb 5, 2006, 5:59pm
For those of you who have been entering the world Steel and crashing, I'm
doing everything I can to stop it from happening. I've just recently moved GZ to a new location and reduced all the textures in the world down to 256x256. However, if you come back to the world you may not notice the change unless you delete your cache. I hope the changes help. Currently there is 1 texture that is 2000x1000 and is used in the sun object. I'll continue to look into the problem, but I'm not able to duplicate the crashes on any pc I have access to. Sorry for the inconvieniences. Crashing in SteelFeb 5, 2006, 7:08pm
I made 2 changes. 1) sun texture is now 512x256 2) one object was missing a
vertex due to a conversion error, I reconverted it with a newer version of accutrans, no more missing vertex. Crashing in SteelFeb 11, 2006, 3:32am
The world Steel is temporarily closed for a 'rethink'. This will last until
late Sunday evening. Thankyou. Crashing in SteelFeb 13, 2006, 5:44am
at least until next weekend. Definite work in progress. Hope you're not
scared of heights. Crashing in SteelFeb 14, 2006, 5:20am
Thanks for inquiring. However the answer is negative. There is no website.
Sorry. The world is an ongoing experiment with a Sci-Fi theme. Currently I am working on a new world object and working to create complicated animations which I hope look cool. More like self educating myself on how to do these things and hopefully sharing the results. By next weekend I intend to allow public tourist and citizen building within the world for the next few months. It's my intention to work on the world object and to add additional building objects during that time. Once I am satified with the new world object I will re-evaluate the state of the world. The sci-fi theme I am after is a dark futuristic afterworld where the atmosphere has been destroyed/contaminated and the planets complete surface has been built over, leaving no nature. Mans/Beings complete dominance over nature. [View Quote] Crashing in SteelFeb 15, 2006, 3:34am
Worked late tonight and just want to relax, but made Steel a public building
world. Will try to make a webpage tomorrow with an object and image list. The world is sandbox mode, no registry. Anyone can build anywhere and right on top of others builds. I only ask that anyone building be polite to others and not be destructive with their builds. I will be moving some of my builds as time permits and will be deleting some of my builds as they are no longer necessary for the current world object. No one should assume their build is permanent. If a builder would like to provide a sci-fi like object to include for building purposes, I would be happy to review it and add it to the object list if appropriate to the world. I will be making new objects on a weekend basis and working on the world object as well. Please send any comments or suggestions for the world to wardaor at hotmail.com Thankyou. I guess I was pretty tired last night. I fixed the rights issue preventing
you from building. Should be fixed now. Crashing in SteelFeb 16, 2006, 12:00am
Created a page linked to the world. www.darkestdestiny.com/steel.web which
has a textures and models list. Lurkers REVOLT :)Feb 17, 2006, 4:34am
Ummm... hello? Can I ask you lurkers to start posting? I mean... I need
something to read durn it! I know you're there because I see the results elsewhere. You have worlds you go to, you even own some. What are you doing with them? How was your valentines day? Post anything! :P Mine wasn't so good, but I'll live. :) I'll shut up now... well... for a minute anyhow :) I look forward to reading your posts. Really :P Trivia anyone?Feb 18, 2006, 4:50pm
I'm sorry sweets. Personally I am not into trivia, which is why I haven't
visited. I'm just guessing, but I'm getting the impression that there isn't a large population of newsgroup readers here. It seems the vast majority of the people who are in AW don't go to the newsgroups or are not even aware of them. Based on my logs, the vast majority of visitors to my world have been tourists. Only a few names from these newsgroups have ever come to my world at all and they were object builders and world owners. I suspect the high tourist volume has to do with the AW newsletter or past citizens who lurk in the newsgroups to see the occasional infighting that takes place between a few of the kids. :P Anyhow, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. I'm hoping the new version of AW will revitalize the community and bring back some of our long lost friends. Cross your fingers and hold down the fort until then. I'm sticking it out. huh!Feb 18, 2006, 10:12pm
I was looking through some books in my 3D book library and came across a 5
1/4 inch disk I was looking for a decade ago. "Better late than never!" doesn't sound quite right in this instance. "Virtual Reality Creations" (c) 1993 The Waite Group. huh!Feb 26, 2006, 2:14am
Well, I could provide a screenshot IF you really wanted.... but... damn you
guys shouldn't have taken this seriously... I mean... a VR book that damn near 10 years old with a 5 1/4 inch disk.... you should have just chuckled for about 2 seconds and then let it pass. rofl. I mean...the ironey is that I searched for what seemed forever for the book during its time... didn't find it... then found it 10 years later when a) the VR technology was out of date.. and b) when the media was out of date as well.... I doubt I could find a drive to read the disk these days if my life depended on it... :P~~~ [View Quote] huh!Feb 26, 2006, 1:39pm
> I finally found the 8-track tape I lost under my couch 20 years ago.
> Dust bunnies had grabbed it. You one upped me! lol. Hope it was a good tape. huh!Mar 3, 2006, 10:34pm
Oh no, you hijacked it, you can keep it. :P
I remember 8 track tapes. Used to listen to ELO all the time. No one remembers them... and I wish you all did. Damn youngens. :) [View Quote] Why you are not posting.Feb 26, 2006, 2:25am
OK.... I think, but am not 100% sure, why you are not posting. There are
literally thousands of people reading these posts. I'm certain of it. :) Only AWI could verify it... and I dare them to. :) But... the reply ratio isn't quite what we'd hope for. Part because there are a lot of tourists who are scared of the 6.95 per month.... which... in my opinion is a steal. But.... for the rest... I think Mark has scared them off... :P~~ or Mark wannabe's... and franky I think these folks need to get over it and post whatever their hearts desire. Join the community... we know you're there... just let your voice be heard and don't let any Mark fakes or originals scare you! We have a support group for you! I'm a AWholic.... and I don't want to be cured! Become an AWholic! It will fill your 3D hearts desire! You're loved... Why you are not posting.Feb 26, 2006, 2:46am
oh come on :) In a population of millions? Be more optomistic than that? I
had over 100 seperate tourist hits on my server in Steel today.... I mean.... I see some numbers here that differ with the common opinion. I'm looking at IP address' here too. :) It would be way cool if those people who visited today became citizens. I don't know their ages or their incomes... but they are all paying 19.95 a month minimum for their access to the internet... and to some of them maybe 6.95 more seems like a lot for what they get... but I don't think they truly understand what they get for their dollar. They get to join a community, they get their own name, they get instant messaging, they get the ability to express themselves in hundreds of worlds... to creat their hearts desires... to vent their creativity to thousands of other people and the potential to own their own world... to create their fantasy... their own vision of what a world could be... There are some folks here being negative. I don't understand that point of view. AW is so much dang fun. [View Quote] Why you are not posting.Feb 26, 2006, 4:05am
I'm sorry Deltaphc, I did not mean to imply that activeworlds.com had
millions of users, but had the potential for millions of users via the internet connection that AW has. We, as AWholics are not voicing our love for AW enough. I don't consider our addiction to be a bad thing at all. Our addiction to World of Warcraft, or Everquest I/II, or Dark Age of Camelot... etc... well... that's just nasty... and I believe that because as users of those programs we contribute nothing but being oneupsmans... which if you think about is pretty wasteful of our time and lives. In AW... our time building has the potential to last for a lifetime... or longer. Depending on the world. We can elect to license a world... and keep it for a hundred years... or longer... and our virtual legacy will last that long or longer. In some cases whether we pay for our membership or not.(building in Alpha for example). But if you build in SL... and lapse on paying your account, you could loose your property and builds and people could take over your land and delete it at will. Assuming I understand their policy, please correct me if I am wrong. Why you are not posting.Feb 26, 2006, 8:00am
huh... you know, I'm not kidding. After thinking about it, php authors have
made it too easy for all of us to have our own personal forums on our own personal websites. Instead of uniting our communities, we have only succeeded in dividing them into smaller chunks... and for all I know, many valuable replies, resources and the like are being handled/handed out in remotes areas of the net that would be more useful when found at a central location. Thank you Comit for pointing this out. Why you are not posting.Feb 26, 2006, 1:48pm
Thank you Mr. King for that very reasonable explaination. I hadn't thought
of it in quite that way. Now I'll go shut up and do something. ;) [View Quote] |
