ActiveWorlds Radio & TV Directory - WHERE IS IT?

Oct 21, 2004, 9:11pm
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Ohh....okay. Understand the RL stuff alright. :-) Found myself suddenly
in need to replace my mouse today (You can't walk into anyplace in VR to do
THAT :-) heheh). :-(

> was intested in the project so I worked on things I thought were more
> important, so thank you for advising me. It should be fixed very soon :-)

Well....If you decide you can't handle it anymore, gimme a gram. I should
be able to tackle a project such as this (I seem to be getting pretty good
at it lately). I can always create a page that *isn't* tied to Hamsterville
with very little trouble at all. :-)

But whatever you decide to do.... :-)

Cheers for now :-)

SW City Radio Episode 4

Oct 27, 2004, 7:05am
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Only listened to about a minute of it and I like it already. :-)

It's in the folder where I have all the other shows which are already part
of the main playlist for Jeeper One Radio (my radio station) and will be
placed in the queue next time I restart the station broadcast.

Would be nice if you guys weren't all TALKING AT ONCE though.

But for Internet Radio purposes, it does kinda sound like pretty much what
it is - A recording of a VoIP group conversation. Not much (if anything)
about PROMOTING ActiveWorlds to the masses of listeners who doesn't even
know what AW is, let alone who the "big wigs" in the Community are.

Those are about THE ONLY drawbacks I can find.

Cheers for now :-)

Potentially MAJOR Problem At AW GZ

Nov 1, 2004, 6:00am
Hi everyone:

Not to invite vandalism BUT....

I was hanging around at AW GZ and noticed that the area around 2S 2E IS NOT
COVERED!!! Furthermore, I found a couple signs that AWLD *DID NOT* put
there. they are underground in the general area. They're dated December
2003.

AWLD had BETTER fix this or else those two signs WILL NOT be the last ones
there. I know of the BI message of bjuilding within 112 meters of GZ, but
if AWLD doesn't get this fixed by COVERING THE LAND around there (like you
guys keep telling us to do), it'd be just their luck to have someone who
manages to crack AWLD's ppw and do some REAL damage there.

We're not talking about some tiny little crack here. we're talking about a
HUGE swath of UNCOVERED LAND that's big enough to EASILY duplicate a wall
object in (I know because I tried it and there was NO covered land around,
above OR below the object).

Like I said, far be it for me to actually invite vandalism (not that anybody
could without cracking AWLD's ppw), but I figured I'd better bring to AWI's
attention (and alert others in case they see some suspicious building taking
place in that area) so that AWI can take permanent measures to better secure
the area. :-)

Cheers for now :-)

In any event....It really looks UGLY behind those signs.

BTW....What's with blocking off the road headed South from GZ WITH A

Putting a river at GZ just looks BAD. A swimming pool (like the size of the

Solve the bump command mystery

Nov 2, 2004, 12:04am
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Well....I guess that takes care of using the bump command for an elevator
for the office building that's my cable company. :-(

Looks as though I'll just have to resort to using signs that people can
click on to get to the 2nd & 3rd floors as well as (when built) the
basement (a teleporter would be too big of an object to put in there no
matter WHERE I put it).

I can go down the highways just outside Hamsterville in either
direction except north (if you count TerriH's property a full blown

We in the community need to DO MORE to promote building on the public

NEW TOWN IN AWTEEN

Apr 27, 2005, 7:14pm
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] >I'm still bugging SW City to put together a real estate office, for those
>who want to participate. Obviously some of us are done with the hassle,
>though. :P

I'd LOVE NOTHING MORE than to land an AWTA office in Hamsterville but
they're kinda stuck on the "old school" way of town building. Yet,
there are quite a few towns (including the one Hamsterville surrounds)
that are/were completely built by ONE person.

Oboeville, which is just off to the West of Hamsterville, is another
example. Same goes with Springfield, Sunnyville and Blankaborg.

Given this, I think more needs to be done to promote building. I've
always said there's PLENTY of room to build in Hamsterville. Anybody
who's even passed through can see that. Can't make it much more
clearer than that.

Just my opinion...

AW TV Stations

May 25, 2005, 9:28pm
Hi everyone:

[View Quote] >I'm looking for some urls to some active television stations. Assuming
>there are any, of course. :) I need four of them, and if you guys know of
>any, please post their urls here. Thanks!

Chris, when you log on next time, hop on ver to the Corporate
Headquarters of Virtual Cable Inc. at 4900N 820E (on AW of course) and
go up to the middle floor. You should a few more networks that way.

That said though....In light of posts by others, I can see that I'll
kost likely be on myself updating corporate HQ as the cable dial
obviously nneds to be expanded to include all the new networks, so
it's quite possible we could wind up crossing paths tonight Chris :).
Though the cable expansion will be done once Channel 5 is brought back
on the air and FBSTV is quite possibly moved off Channel 8 and
shuffled onto cable (Been wanting to do that for months given the
network's ties to AAWR and UETV being on Channel 4).

In fact, while you're at it Chris, feel free to build a Virtual Cable
Inc. office somewhere in SW City. Anyone with a town can do so.
Doesn't really matter what you use to build it with as I'm not that
particular, though it should have an area (ideally an entire floor)
dedicated for the virtual call center (but this isn't required if you
don't want it). :-)

Highflier, you may want to plant yourself in front of a picture object
sometime tonight and review your list for currency and accuracy. I
say this because ABN is dead as is (sadly and ironically enough) VWTV.
There's probably a few others on your list that are dead too.

Anyhow....Cheers for now everyone :)

>flashed one after another telling a story is NOT television, especially with

You are confusing VIRTUAL REALITY with REAL LIFE. In a VR
environment, TV isn't *supposed* to "move". That's the nature of the
environment.

Heck, even in the rest of cyberspace, you can't get true PROFESSIONAL
BROADCAST quality TV on the Internet (unless you know of some websites
no one else does). The best that can be done is STREAMING MEDIA (and
even THAT can sometimes be challenging if combined with a VR
environment).

ActiveWorlds has only had truly integrated streaming media support and
functionality for only a year (if even that long). And given the fact
that it relies almost solely on a Windows environment, it should be a
no-brainer as to why they chose Windows Media over proprietary
RealMedia and other formats such as NSV and OGG Theora which are Open
Source.

Hope this helps in better explaining things :)

Road Revolution

May 25, 2005, 4:11am
[View Quote] +++++++++++++++
SW Comit scrolled in his post at the above URL the following....
+++++++++++++++

Many of you have probably already heard of this so called road-revolution.

Since it's been going on for so long, and so much time put into it, I
thought it deserves a post, and, perhaps encourage other towns (and
precincts within SW City) to follow along :D

What is the road revolution? Basically, its to make roads realistic...

+++++++++++++++++++++

I totally agree with you Comit. In fact, in Hamsterville, I've recently
been backtracking to add such things as traffic lights at major
intersections (i.e. where major structures exist), street signs
(although admittedly none have been deployed east of Retsmah's road at
555 E), and even news stands using news1.rwx with pics from
[url="http://www.newsmuseum.org/]the newspaper musem[/url] for pics of
front pages of local (to me) and national publications as well as
ActiveWorlds, AWNews and even the SW City Times.

Although the news stands are pretty sporatic right now, the street signs
and traffic lights are not. To identify streets at major intersections,
I use sign3.rwx with the street name and side of town in white lettering
on a forest green background (the way street signs [i]should[/i] be done
BTW).

For traffic lights, I use pict5.rwx and Eep's traffic light image with a
command (which escapes me at the moment) for animation.

An example of this can be found near the old Ground Zero area at 5000N
268E. This will put you right next to BlankaM's Kalifornia Hotel
Hamsterville.

As for the highways, I know I need to build such things as exits and
onramps as well as add more signage (especially along Intertown Highway
55, which has nothing of the kind except for a hodgepodge attempt at an
onramp at 5085E, which ain't saying very much), but this will come in
due time. :)

I haven't really done much with manhole covers, though I know I will
have to eventually.

Cheers for now everyone :)

AWEC Chat Parties

Jul 30, 2005, 2:18am
Hi everyone:

Want to partake in AWEC, but aren't in the mood for a "contest"? Wanna
partake in AWEC, but you're not exactly into "contesting"? Wanna
partake in AWEC & the 10th Anniversary of ActiveWorlds on the oldest
(and most original) world & see some things you never even knew existed?

NO PROBLEM. Hamsterville has you covered.

I have set up FIVE (yes, you heard me - FIVE) carefully chosen venues
from which to choose from. A couple locations have a "theme" if you
will to go along with the main AWEC "Reflections" theme. The goal?
Simple. Each is a chat party. :-)

The locations are as follows (All locations are on AlphaWorld).

EMBASSY PARK - 5138N 48E

TOWN SQUARE PARK - 5008N 223E

CHEERS BAR & GRILL - 5026N 405E (TONS OF FREE VIRTUAL FOOD!! :-))

VIRTUAL CABLE INC. CORPORATE HQ - 4901N 817E (Multimedia Enabled)

CRASH HOSPITAL - 5006N 997E (Coincides with Annual Virtual Health Fair
so you can get a FREE virtual check-up by one of the *finest* hospital
staffs in the virtual business. :-) Crash Cemetary nearby to honor and
remember our fallen cits).

Each site is equipped with two MegaTrons tuned into PTV & GCTV.

You can also listen to my podcast devoted to AWEC and ActiveWorlds 10th
Anniversary by clicking on the jukebox or by surfing on over to
http://patspodcast.blogspot.com/2005/07/pats-podcast-episode-20-activeworlds.html
and downloading the MP3. (SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT - You can also subscribe
to the podcast too by copying and pasting this URL into your podcatcher
or news aggregator - http://feeds.feedburner.com/PatsPodcast - END
SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT :-) ).

You can also tune into AWVR Radio by clicking the other jukebox too. :-)

No points are being awarded. Just good clean overall FUN. :-)

I'll be around on AW for a bit if anyone has any questions. Just feel
free to gram me. :-)

Cheers for now :-)

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] Same thing here too.

On top of that, I had to try TWICE just to log onto the Uniserver too.

Server crash maybe?

Cheers for now & Happy Holidays :)

Why you are not posting.

Hi everyone:

[View Quote] My excuse as of late has been being too busy with other things - like
*actually building a city infrastructure* for Hamsterville (still
working on the placement and formation of streets east of Retsmah Road
East).

But since I'm now at a `crossroads' (no pun intended), I'll now check
out the General AW board on SWCity.net (I may even start my own board
on the Hamsterville website).

Cheers :)
