My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of Pope John Paul
II (1920-2005). I mourn with you as I'm sure many others will. I'm not
catholic but I am a christian and this is a huge slice of history in the
making.

This pope served 26 years ... I think I remember maybe one or two before
him, but he for sure is foremost in my memory. It will be interesting to see
who is chosen as his replacement, it's been many years since I saw this
process and this time I will pay closer attention to it as these new
transitions take place over the next few weeks.

God bless ...

Yes I want to say that my roomate is Catholic and cried all day the first
day and just seeing the news is very hard for everyone actually. Not Just
Catholics are sad. The Whole World is sad over it. He was a great man and
helped us all in many ways wither you be Cathoic or not.

Will be interesing for younger people to see how the new Pope will be
chosen. This does not happen in everyones lifetime so it should be
interesting. Parents make sure your children see this interesting change
that will take place in our history. Even if your Christian you should make
sure your children see all the coverage that will take place right in front
of our eyes. What a good time to explain to your children about the Pope and
cardinals. The Loved Saints, and the differences between Catholicism and
Christianity.

Pope Pope John Paul II would be a wonderful Saint as he seemed to love all
the different faiths of the world and considered them all Holy. I have a
book about him but I never finished reading it...tink I will now.

"This does not happen in everyones lifetime so it should be
interesting."
emm, yes it does? i mean, unless you die early, then chances are very high
that you will witness. i remember reading an extract from "the prince" by
machiavelli (sp?) that the average lifespan of a pope is 10 years, so would
mea that everyone would see it happen, about, emm, 7 times.
the average may have changed over the years, seeing that the book was
written like, emm, 500 years ago(apparently, it was written exactly 500 yrs
ago this year, remember that, because that was the reason i decided to check
it out).
Well anyway, just kind of strange how alot of you guys spend you're entire
life not caring about religion, until someone dies, and then, a month later,
forget all about it again.
i mean, i'm not even catholic and have a general understanding of how the
pope is chosen, and by the looks of some of these posts, i'm one of the few
who do.
Well i just personally think it's kind of sad how quiet afew people (media
especially) only care when someone dies..

Hi SWE......there is a saying.............. Do not judge the book by its
cover.... One should not impose religon to others......We need to respect others
choices in life including religion choices. If I pray by myself and dont ask you
to join me...... It's only in respect of your choices in life:))

ya, but, i wasn't talking about being religious or not, i was simply saying,
don't pretend to be something your not, or pretend to care about something
you don't.
thing is, the whole mourning thing is turning into more of a fashion thing.
i'm not saying that no one cares, i'm just saying alot of people pretend to,
but don't. Well, slightly less on this ng though, but thought i'd bring it
up anyway.

4 million ppl that showed up was not pretending. But I respect your point of
view..... and this is my last post on this matter.

SWE, you are insightful. A lot of people do that. Even more are only
'Christians' on Sunday.

I think I know what SWE was trying to say.
It's the same as when the WTC was attacked. All of a sudden everybody was
waving the American flag and singing patriotic songs.

It's not that we don't care, exactly. We just don't give it much thought on
a day-to-day basis. We don't know that we care until it's gone or
threatend.
