Video streaming on linux // CommunitysweOct 23, 2004, 5:42pm
hey, just curious, does anyone know if live video streaming is possible on a
linux server? can't really affoard a dedicated server, so trying to get a virtual private server, but all the ones i found only have linux, and well, wanna use it to start a real, VIDEO based, tv station. Thanks -SWE rossyboyOct 24, 2004, 3:44pm
Perhaps ask someone on a more... technical newsgroup. As far as I know
the only people who use Linux here use it for worldservers... [View Quote] sweOct 24, 2004, 4:48pm

Don't see why not. I'd suggest asking a linux newsgroup on USENET or
your server provider. jstone2004Oct 26, 2004, 11:07am

It is possible indeed. Yet it would take work, for example, you can try
streaming with googling up on winamp video streaming or whatever. -- Signed, TheMask :: Owner of Delusional-Minds Hosting :: [View Quote] pc hamsterOct 28, 2004, 3:21am
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] You'd be better off just using a dedicated Windows box for that. You could run a basic installation of Windows XP Pro and little more than stuff needed for Windows Media on it (namely the Encoder). Hope this helps :-) Cheers for now :-) PC Hamster Mayor - City Of Hamsterville pchamster at comcast.net Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) http://hamsterville.tripod.com/ HAMSTERVILLE GROUND ZERO - AW 5029N 500E (NEW COORDINATES!!!) --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Well, Windows XP isn't the best OS to use; he's asking help if its
possible to do on a linux box, because all he sees around are linux hosts (yet there are windows server hosts, *cough* [me, but isnt releasing any advertising info on extended ideas yet (top secret)] *cough* There are servers though that are linux and stream video. They do it for WINAMP. -- Signed, TheMask :: Owner of Delusional-Minds Hosting :: Free world hosting.. Just a T-Gram will do it. andrasNov 9, 2004, 6:58pm
