Hi everyone:
[View Quote] >Sometimes when I hit the back button to where I was, I get there but when I >walk it is very very slow untill I bounce. Its like trying to walk through >thick deep mud. Anyone else have that happen? I'm seeing this with the run capabilities in 4.1 latest release. In fact, it's so bad, I had to crank up the framerate ALL THE WAY just to get it to go HALF the speed that 3.6 could go (Which was 30 frames/sec., but 3.6 still moved faster than 4.1 does) As it stands now, I get an average framerate of 62 frames/sec., when I'm running on surface, but I see no increase in speed over 3.6 (In fact, it's about the same if not still a tad SLOWER). Incidentally, speaking of movement, I have noticed a marked improvement in the precise movement capabilities. :) Although I'm still having to fight to keep my avatar going in a straight line (As opposed to sliding from one side of the road to the other) as it travels down a road or (especially) a highway (I raise my avatar slightly off the ground for speed), I'm not having to fight nearly as much nor is it as much of a struggle. That said though, it still needs some work as its still not quite right. But at least it's better than it was before. :) In any case...KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!! :D Cheers :D PC Hamster Mayor - City Of Hamsterville pchamster at comcast.net Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) http://hamsterville.tripod.com/ HAMSTERVILLE GROUND ZERO - AW 5029N 500E SKYPE ME at patspodcast I'm Baack (And Need Some Help!)Jul 12, 2006, 5:40pm
Hi everyone:
After a several month hiatus (And two phone calls to AW HQ earlier today), I'm now back as a cit. Not only that, but I'm going to stop putting off a project I had had in mind since the last *two* times my cit expired. :) But I need help on an unrelated topic. As those of you who subscribe to podcasts are no doubt aware, podcasters (and listeners alike!) seem tro have fallen foror prefer Second Life. I'm doing all I can to promote ActiveWorlds and talk it up in the podcasting circles whenever and wherever possible. BUT I NEED YOUR HELP!!! Now i'm NOT asking people to spam the PodcastAlley or PodcastPickle message boards (nor am I encouraging it). Just simply (And subtlely) mention AW, why you're on it, what makes it so good, etc....etc. to everyone you know (Who knows? They might either BE a podcaster themselves or know of one or two). I've got a link to Hamsterville GZ up on my podcast (URL below for your reference). Though it's currently not exactly prominent or obvious, it IS there nevertheless. I think if there are others who either have a build on one of the public building worlds and/or own a world that host a podcast, they need to promote AW on the podcast if they aren't doing it already. Afterall, you *do* promote your podcast all over your build and/or world, don't you? In short...I say WE CAN BEAT THOSE SECOND LIFERS AT THEIR OWN GAME. Here's the five W's.... WE are on the oldest and coolest 3D chat system in Cyberspace. Not them. THEY have to PAY FOR EVERYTHING they get. We don't. THEY are limited to ONE world. WE have MANY. I could on and on, but I'm preaching to the converted here. What's needed is an ALL OUT MASSIVE community-wide promotion of AW in the podcasting and podcast-listener circles. If Second Life can do it, SO CAN WE. :) IS ANYBDOY WITH ME HERE?? Am I being heard?? :) Thoughts? Tar? Feathers? ALL OF THE ABOVE (Gulp!)??? Cheers :) Hamsterville Ground Zero - AW 5029N 500E (Soon to change. More on that in a later post) I'm Baack (And Need Some Help!)Jul 12, 2006, 7:16pm
Hi everyone:
On 12 Jul 2006 16:50:02 -0400, "Hyper Anthony" [View Quote] >Its a decent idea, but I don't think directly advertising through >communities will do it anymore. > >Take the fella who made this topic... >http://www.swcity.net/yabbse/index.php?topic=5429. He was promoting >There to us in the AW community, and after a long debate he became >rather zealous and now more than one of us aren't interested in there at >all *because* of him. > >So just be weary, it may work against ya ;) One HUGE difference. This "Joel" was promoting There on the message board of a community in a rival universe. That rival universe being us. What I propose is the promotion of AW within a community that is NOT a member of a rival universe. By that I mean a place where no one single community is a member of a rival universe, but instead MANY communities which are based on the podcasts themselves are. Now, if we were talking about the promotion of AW on the message boards of SL, then I'd see your point as that WOULD NOT work (and would probably get us banned from the site too!). See where I'm headed with this now? Hi everyone:
On 12 Jul 2006 17:34:29 -0400, "Hyper Anthony" [View Quote] >Not particularly, because if Second Life is as big in podcasting >communities as you say it is, it'll be hard to find a place without a >pre-existing bias towards SL, and they'll be able to argue as to why >they like it just as much as we can argue why we like AW. Call it battle of the Universes. :) *LOL!* Seriously, Adam Curry (Yes THE Adam Curry from MTV who now runs Sirius Stars 102 on Sirius Satellite Radio and has a podcast of his own) even has property on SL (I hear it's a castle). Yes, there's a bias towards SL. That's because a large majority of those people are Mac owners and SL caters to the Mac crowd rather well (Though I don't know how considering that 3D cards aren't made for Macs, but they do). There's not a lot of PC users there. A lot of PC podcasters either A). Don't know about either SL or AW or B). Do know about SL (And have tried it), but not AW and have found SL to not be user-friendly for some reason. AW has a chance to tap into the podcasters on PCs just like SL has with the Mac podcasters. Now, for my part, I reposted a few months back an edited version of my interview with OneSummer from last year when the talk of SL had reached a fever pitch on PodcastPickle ALONE. I knew that part of the interview would be useful as a general promotion tool, so I used it and reposted on my podcast page. at http://www.freewebtown.com/patspodcast2/ if you'd like to take a look and listen (It's the second item down). >Still don't think it would be a very successful idea, but I'm probably >just being negative. > >*shrug* I think you *are* being negative IMO. :P Cheers :) ATTN: Mystyyy - I Have an Offer For Ya!Jul 12, 2006, 7:03pm
Hi everyone:
Sorry if I butchered your name, but I have an offer for ya. I'm in the midst of building a hospital in the area of 5000N 623E on AW (The land in the area is well covered, so DON'T EVEN THINK IT vandals!) and was wondering if you'd be interested in building one of your Porfessional Plaza complexes like the one you have in your town. Such a build would be the PERFECT compliment to the hospital, which I hope to complete by the end of this month (crossing fingers). Lemme know either via reply post or telegram, would ya? Mucho appreciated :) Cheers :) PC Hamster Mayor - City Of Hamsterville pchamster at comcast.net Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) http://hamsterville.tripod.com/ HAMSTERVILLE GROUND ZERO - AW 5029N 500E SKYPE ME at patspodcast ATTN: Mystyyy - I Have an Offer For Ya!Jul 13, 2006, 12:36am

Hi everyone:
I seem to have a little problem. Over the weekend, I installed an elevator shaft inside the corporate headquarters of my cable company using 3 tport.rwx objects (one for each floor). This morning, I added buttons that are supposed to take the user to each of the three floors. The user is supposed to click the button with their mouse in order to get to the floor in which they want to go to. However, when I tested the buttons I installed in the first floor elevator entrance, this is NOT happening for some strange reason (At least not for me). I tried clicking on BOTH the 2nd AND 3rd floor buttons (I saw no point in clicking the 1st floor button as it's just there to be consistent with the way a real elevator is supposed to look). Anyhow, when *I* click on the buttons, I wind up being warped or teleported (I used both commands BTW) up some 50+ meters off the ground before I float back down to the roof (Which is NOT where I want to be!). Here's an example of the command line I'm using on one of the buttons (NOTE: I'm using button_2.rwx as the button)... create sign; activate teleport 4898N 816E 6.0a If you put those coords. into the teleport field exactly as you see them above, you should be teleported inside the 2nd floor of Virtual Cable Inc. (My cable company). On the floor are a bunch of TV objects with all the various TV channels. Back to the buttons...Is there a workaround to this whereas I can have a working elevator system in which visitors can interact with in order to go up and down as they please? Would be nice. It's also CRITICAL that I get this done as my next build (the hospital) will need MULTIPLE elevators and elevator areas. If anyone can give me a pointer or two on how to accomplish this, it'd be greatly appreciated. :D I look forward to all the replies....
