Priviledge Password Distance Restriction

Apr 13, 2001, 9:07pm
I think privileges should work the other way around... YOU allow someone to use your rights (like, a rights list for who you want to
be able to use your rights) and then there's no password or privilege stealth involved...

You would just put them in your "privilege list" and when they want to use it, they go to the privilege menu and type in your name
(no password needed)... the browser checks if you have given them this right, and if it's the case they can use it.

Anyway it's just a thought, the way it works isn't going to change now... I think this way would have made more sense...

Priviledge Password Distance Restriction

Apr 13, 2001, 10:34pm
Because changing an object = (from the server's point of view) deleting one and adding the modified one (which i find quite strange,
but that's the way it works.)
So if you don't allow anyone to delete your builds, they can only build with your citnum, and not change anything you've done...
which would maybe suit you, but would be annoying in many cases.

And because they didn't think about it, too. :oP
Just don't give your privilege pass to people you don't totally trust...

If it can be done to world lists it can be done to contact lists...

Apr 19, 2001, 1:52am
Those 2 limitations are (probably) totally unrelated...
the worlds list size was limited because of a limit on the total size of the message to send, while the contact list was limited
because somewhere in his code Roland just put a line saying "if there are more than 100 contacts, just ignore the rest"... So the
2nd one was done on purpose, while the 1st one was a limitation of the method used to transmit the worlds list...

I just can't help laughing when someone who calls himself a 'lead programmer' wrties things like this :)
Seriously, I don't want to be mean, but you obviously don't know what you're talking about... (i'm talking about the 'lag' parts)

Anyway I don't want to start a flame war, just think about what you write next time.

sentack, your ideas seem valuable, but unfortunately we all know AW's programmers lack time to implement such features, which is too
bad, and isn't a reason for not posting this kind of ideas :)
I like all the ideas except the text macros which i'd find annoying, and can't see the interest of resizing the view screen to fixed
values :)
Ah, and a full screen mode sure would be fun, but wouldn't increase the framerate in any way unless your 3d card doesn't support
windowed mode acceleration like old voodoos 1 / 2...

A few requests...

Oct 18, 2001, 11:58pm
Ok, sorry, I didn't mean to be rude.
Anyway, my point was that having animations that would make the avatar stay in a defined positions wouldn't have any effect on lag.
the lag you're talking about is caused by your browser receiving information from avatars *changing* from one animation to another,
that is, data needs to be transfered to tell you that the gesture is being triggered.
If you press repeatedly the gesture buttons, data needs to be transfered each time, which could cause lag, but an animation that
would make the avatar stay in a position would just have to transfer data twice - once to sit and once to get up, for example.

Z and X axis rotation buttons in the object properties window

Dec 1, 2001, 11:25am
Well, forward and backward doesn't mean much in 3D :) But you were right to
call them Z axis and X axis rotations, Bowen probably misread "XZ" rotations
which would mean the horizontal plane.

The 3 rotations are also often called yaw (what we have, Y axis), pitch and
roll (the other 2, I think pitch would be x axis and roll z axis, but that
depends very much on how the object was made)

But I'm not sure Roland will use this representation (called Euler angles
representation) to rotate the objects. Although it's the most obvious for
humans, the Euler angles representation is the least obvious from a
programming point of view, and is subject to Gimble's lock...
So, either he just let it that way with Gimble's lock annoying you when you
try to rotate your objects in the correct position, or he used something
else (or he could have used computations that defeat Gimble's lock but
that's quite hard I think).

Hey, What do you guys think about having a place to select a hard disk drive and defragment it from within AW so you can defrag
anytime without having to quit the browser? A scandisk option would be cool too.
It would need some minor modifications to the browser but adding a few lines to the .ini file should do.=)

PS: Roland, if you have the time add a disk partitioner module, Partitionmagic is too expensive.
