Compound facer, non-facer

Jul 4, 2003, 5:45pm
You want 2.2 features back - and I agree.

It definitely allowed nicer plants and flower beds
having this feature.

It had been a clump-wise setting, no incompatibility
problems would occur to have this back in the same way.

Object Paths

Jul 8, 2003, 2:47am
Might be possible with apache + .htaccess (mod_rewrite)
if it is not a ZIP but a site password that you can send
in name:password at path form.

I haven't tried that though.

Afaik. nearly all women are more or less (by nature) and only
a few loose (or suppress) it because of education or traditions.
The same is valid for men too but it's more less than more
there. Humans are born bisexual.

Remote Admin Tool Transfer Limit

Jul 19, 2003, 1:58pm
You will always have this problem if you run a server
that is slower than even one single client.

The admin tool has to have a higher priority on the world
server than any client because it is an admin tool. If
I am admin on a web server I expect to be treated with
a higher priority than the web clients too.

Compressing the data (gzip / pkzip) reduces the amount
of data by 8 and would sure help but I think it is not
a problem of the world server to ballance the load in
this case. The line is just too slow to handle the
required data rate in this case.

Maybe announce the administration mode before you start
so the visitors will know what's going on.

I doubt it would work because of the maximum file name
length in the cache database.

hm - Indiana University had an avatars tutorial for rwmodeler
but I cannot find it anymore. I think it was a PDF file but
most search engines index those too.

Build Zone

Aug 2, 2003, 9:03pm
Not too much work if it would be implemented in the same
way as the "encroachment protection".

- world properties need a switch to use group-based instead
of owner-based encroachment protection

- each group needs a group leader and members

- If the ground is owned by a group leader, all group members
are allowed to build above it.

It is not exactly the same as Tengel's idea but will achieve
a similar result with less changes in the code.

Disadvantages :

- it will only work in worlds that have a registry.

- the system will slow down if someone creates hundreds of
groups, because an index by person would create too much
overhead.

I'll take this one back - it needs to scan only for the
groupleader so it has to search only in one group.

WISH - Universe Teleporting Abilities

Aug 25, 2003, 4:45am
Universes do have an identifier, host and port.

Separate directories would not be necessary for the
art cache, just for property and a few files in the
AW root.

Could the community newsgroup be renamed into "community"?
With the quotes the name would meet the latest topics there
better.

I do not think that bashing people and discriminating
minorities and people who are different is so important
and helpful for a community.

Not lately, but some projects require a lot.

My top 2 (different projects) :

- 327.5 in one month

Disabling HTML in Outlook Express 5/6

Jul 15, 2001, 12:27pm
Yes, I do fight spam, or at least try to, by

- sending abuse reports
- having an email address list on my web page where the
bots looking for adresses to spam find victims amongst
their own customers and a lot of not existing junk
material.

Your calculation is wrong in 2 points :

- the relation might be correct for plain html, no
"stationary" and no other picture elements.
But once it's open for HTML this will come too.
makes 25K for a 2K message, especially as this
is transfered uuencoded, 1/3 more size.

- just for me, I cannot read the news during the week,
that makes 500 posts. Although I have a 64kbit line
my connection to the AW NG server is really slow
sometimes, even goes down to about acustic coupler
speed. DSL would not help when that is the case.

And one more thing is always forgotten in the arguments,
having HTML vs. quoting is not an argument, because HTML
will not replace quoting but add to it.

Next will be JS or VBScript? What about HTML compatibility
issues? Does everyone check his mail with validator.w3c.org
before he sends?
I hope you know about all the security holes especially in
M$ products.

Disabling HTML in Outlook Express 5/6

Jul 15, 2001, 2:30pm
As soon as the world wide (!) lines will be able to
handle the traffic that it would produce AND the client
engines become reliable and unvulnerable I am willing
to restart this discussion.

But discussing with people who do not want to understand
makes not much sense.

The complete set in Windows is :

48x48 and 32x32 with 256 colors
32x32 and 16x16 in 16 colors
32x32 in 2 colors (B&W)

They are held in one ICO file (or icon resource) and windows
chooses the best one for the displayed size and color depth
