agent1 // User Searchwhat the hell happened to all the messages in "beta"??Dec 15, 2000, 11:42am
Below is the message I got from Calpantera.
-Agent1 ------------ Yes it does.. Only New beta users will be able to post.. Bill [View Quote] what the hell happened to all the messages in "beta"??Dec 15, 2000, 4:22pm
Why? If the beta is public, the people that download it are mostly not going to submit bug reports at all... They download it so they can use it. The point of releasing a beta is to make sure it works before unleashing your creations on the world. It's not "who deserves to and who doesn't", it's "who can help us find bugs?".
Once the closed beta testing is done, the beta will be available to the general public. This allows for the more obscure bugs to be found. -Agent1 [View Quote] what the hell happened to all the messages in "beta"??Dec 15, 2000, 7:39pm
Closed betas are a GOOD thing. The general public will eventually get it's chance... I don't think the newsgroup is the reason for the closed beta, either...
-Agent1 [View Quote] what the hell happened to all the messages in "beta"??Dec 15, 2000, 7:48pm
No, they're not holding back anything. Anyway, how do you know you WON'T be a part of the beta? It will be a public beta eventually... Again, the point of a closed beta test is to get people that know what and why they are doing. This has the added advantage of keeping fools out of the beta test for a little while as people who are actually testing do some work. <sarcasm> Maybe there won't be so many idiotic posts asking why their '84 computer won't run Activeworlds... </sarcasm>

-Agent1 ----- Posted by Syzygy on 12/18/2000, 4:55 pm Someone asked me about the "numbers" that AWcom did not want the investors to see ... this is part of a msg from 2000-11-17: ------------------------------- Here is the output from the two new bots I have written. They count the number of paying citizens and worlds ... *** 11470 of 33329 users are paying for citizenships. 964 of 2313 worlds are paid for by users. *** Criteria: 1) Expire date is not "never" 2) Expire date is later than "now" (not expired yet) 3) Owner e-mail does not contain "activeworlds.com" 4) "trial" not found in Comments (worlds only) ------------------------------- I don't know about "millions" of users, but as of a month ago there were only 11,000 active (paying) Citizens, and less than 1,000 worlds generating revenue. AWcom has a Serious Problem with retaining their customer base ... but each year there's a fresh crop of newbies to pony-up 20 bucks for something "kewl", so who cares if they renew after their first year? It's like that acne cream ... it doesn't work, it never has, but there's always a new generation to sucker with the promise of a cure. :-) What's Really Bogus in AW's case is that they leave all of the property built by Citizens who expired over two years ago (like "elvis") and retain their names so that people will *think* that there is a higher population density ... there are objects in AW that have been around since 1995 that still show the owner's name, even though they are Long Gone. The "Official" reason for keeping all these names and objects is, "Just in case they come back a year later, see their stuff is still there, and they can renew their citizenship with their old name and number." As if! :-) Let's see, 11,000 paid citizens time $20 equals $220,000 in annual income (assume that new citizens offset the ones who don't renew after their first year) ... how many salaries (and how much rent) can they pay with that? No, I don't think they'd want the public investors to see those numbers! "Dead men tell no tales." That is, like, so Old Paradigm ... you can no longer just cover up Bad News by getting rid of the person who found the skeleton in the closet. :-) -=DAH=- Forwarded PostDec 18, 2000, 11:21pm
Apparently, Rick and JP alone make 140,000 each... I suppose they do make money from stuff like world design, and the world licenses themselves, too.

Well, yesterday afternoon Ima Genius said something about "rebooting Imatowns" (I assume all of his hosted stuff...). I think it should be back up by now, but I'll bother him about it and see if something's up :)

But you seem to have enough time to sit around and try to fool us into thinking you're smarter than you are. Go away and never return. That is, unless you have something meaningful to offer to the AW Community, don't post here! What a concept! :O

Roland :/ -Agent1 [View Quote] Did the duct tape go undone again?Dec 30, 2000, 10:07pm
The Alphaworld "database" could be corrupted. That's why they need to check it out. I don't know how a large database like the one(s) AW uses for its worlds, etc. don't use things like fflush() to send the buffered data to disk after "writing" each time... Something to look into, maybe...
-Agent1 [View Quote] Wheeere oh where has our AlphaWorld gone?Dec 31, 2000, 12:37pm
Well, the world itself needs to be checked before it can be brought back online...
*Sends main Uniserver a "Get Well Soon!" card* :) -Agent1 [View Quote] Sorry Zero.. but more USWF garbage..Jan 1, 2001, 8:58pm
Look, if you want to have a place to post crap like this, get yourself a free forum thingy on the Internet. Don't fill the Activeworlds Community newsgroup with posts about how you were ejected from some world after a conversation. About five whole people care!
Normally, I try not to "filter" people because they may eventually have something to say. You have constantly posted annoying, pointless junk to this newsgroup and used it like it was solely yours. If your next few posts have no meaning for the WHOLE (or at least a "significant" portion) of the ACTIVEWORLDS community, I'll add you to my (currently) empty filter list. -Agent1 [View Quote] Sorry Zero.. but more USWF garbage..Jan 1, 2001, 10:33pm
Actually, it is partially mine. I paid for a citizenship. Part of what I get as a citizenship is the right to post here. AWCI hardly reads this newsgroup, so no, they wouldn't contact you. Lastly, don't tell people to "take English again cuz I dont get your grammer" when you obviously aren't very well versed in communicating well yourself.
By the way - "your lucky I don't crack u"? Are you threatening him? Hmm... well, at least Anduin will know where to look if someone starts trying to infect him with some trojan horse or other "FUH-Q! YOU MDE EM MADS O I IS GOING TO HACK YOU WITH BACK ORFACE!"-type crap. *Cleans off filter list* Getting closer there, "lanezeri". -Agent1 [View Quote] About AW 3.1.....Jan 4, 2001, 8:45pm
Unless AWSchool or AWUniv does a "course" on them, I doubt it. Why not read the help files? They explain it...
