I can't post there either as the message never stops sending--seems stuck in a feedback loop or something.

But for them to just DELETE all the previous messages is just STUPID. Is ALL of AWCI full of idiots or something? I just can't believe people can CONTINUALLY act so incompetently inept. They could have just created a NEW closed beta newsgroup or something...god damn...

I agree Eep, Not only that, but at least reading the messages would allow the rest of us to observe the process and input possible solutions to problems, to the testers. I kinda pisses me off that we aren't even allowed to know the status of the beta testing.

That's just it, AWCI doesn't see us as clients or 'customers.' More
often than not, they really don't care about us. We're a form of
entertainment to them. :P

Which is hardly anything to kid around about. I consider that just pathetic, which is why I won't EVER pay ANYTHING to AWCI until they get their act together.

Does anyone know the motivation for closing the beta test in the first place? Just the fact that they're saying: you deserve to beta test and you don't, I think, is really bad for the community. If the chosen beta testers have any guts at all they should withdraw. I doubt they'll do it tho'.

Why? If the beta is public, the people that download it are mostly not going to submit bug reports at all... They download it so they can use it. The point of releasing a beta is to make sure it works before unleashing your creations on the world. It's not "who deserves to and who doesn't", it's "who can help us find bugs?".

Once the closed beta testing is done, the beta will be available to the general public. This allows for the more obscure bugs to be found.

Before I began working in Motion Capture for Electronic Arts, I worked
in Quality Assurance.
Closed Beta Testing is a must, especialy when dealing with a program as
this.
The last opened Beta , they had people just running out and grabbing the
3.0 without the proper requirements. People wouldnt read the
documentation, just go and get the new beta and fail, and not understand
why.
Then post issues on the New Groups confusing people at Aw because they
didnt know the configs of all these Users.
These "Bugs" need to be properly written so that aw understands the
nature of the problems.
For instance.
What happened (short summary, then Full description)
What config does user have. (full details)

Entered AW and avatars had big heads.
-Ran AW V.__ with default settings ( no changes).
-As Avatars loaded in noted all have bigger heads.

PII 400 128 mb RAM
Voodoo II
Win 98
(more details as possible)

I think the beta NGs got way out of hand, and it wasnt even worth while
for them to look at.
What with general complaints, peoples two cents worth, and flames and
fights. This doesn help AW any.
They need to know whats going on.

I dont agree that they should have wiped the beta group, i think it may
have relevant answers to some pples issues.

But it does definitely need an overhaul, and some procedure and protoca;
added to it.

Z!

well maybe if sertin cits had not just used the beta group as a froum to bad
mouth others and roland him self maybet he 3.1beta would not be a closed one
but a public one.
and maybe they would not have deleted the messages already in the group but
why keep them ???
most were nothing more than personal atacks against one person or another
many corps would have done this months ago.................................

I just want to beta test that's all, and I don't think I'm the only one. And by not leting us do it I think they are holding back valueable resources.

Closed betas are a GOOD thing. The general public will eventually get it's chance... I don't think the newsgroup is the reason for the closed beta, either...

No, they're not holding back anything. Anyway, how do you know you WON'T be a part of the beta? It will be a public beta eventually... Again, the point of a closed beta test is to get people that know what and why they are doing. This has the added advantage of keeping fools out of the beta test for a little while as people who are actually testing do some work. <sarcasm> Maybe there won't be so many idiotic posts asking why their '84 computer won't run Activeworlds... </sarcasm>

There were FAR more messages about bugs and their workarounds or just discussions about other things. It's not like Roland has been participating in the newsgroups lately anyway so for him (or some braindead AWCIer) to just all of a sudden wipe it without warning and then not give an explanation is just YET another example of how AWCI doesn't give a SHIT about the people who actually use and care about AW's future. Rick and JP do NOT deserve to be managing AW; they have CONTINUALLY proved inept at managing and interacting with its community and listening to what we want.
