Privacy, Checkmark Problem

Dec 10, 2003, 10:45pm
When we choose to set individual settings for a person knowing our online
status, it overrides the default in our privacy settings. This is ok, but
there is no way to reset all of our settings back to our browser settings.
We have to remember each person we did that for, plus if they change their
name, and we have decided to allow them to know our online status, chances
of finding that person on my contact list to get my privacy back is nearly
zero.

There needs to be a way to reset all values back to the question mark, even
if we've taken them off our contacts list and even if we've overridden that
with the individual setting.

community and general discussion?

Guess we could do it here. : ) I noticed some of the flames but didn't
read them. Thanks to whoever for making AWGate and AW festive for New
Years.

Rights are Like Muscles

Jan 2, 2004, 4:33pm
If they aren't exercised, they wither away.

Please bring back a community newsgroup for all of us to enjoy.

Thank you.

I Wish

Jan 4, 2004, 12:27pm
That the wrong being done in AW would stop. It is wrong to make things
affect someone's life in their local area from AW. It is deeply saddening.
It is wrong to spread wrong doing, it is wrong to be involved in helping to
spread wrong doing. It should be illegal if it isn't and people in AW that
are involved in treating people badly, especially a group effort, especially
to gain power over people, should have to face legal consequences for their
actions.

I Wish

Jan 5, 2004, 10:46pm
Someone sent an email to me asking me to explain further. Sorry, I will not
answer email regarding this subject, but feel free to say what you need to
say in the newsgroup.

Community Change Wish

Jan 4, 2004, 9:32pm
Peacekeepers give an email address to write regarding abuse. But does that
work? The citizens of AW don't see the letter, don't see the people behind
the scenes response, don't see action taken unless the person making the
complaint copy/pastes to the newsgroup. I've experimented with complaining
about a few things in the newsgroup in order to get people in the community
to see there is a problem. More than one person needs to see that a person
or group of people in bold is abusing. My posts get no action taken if done
that way. Peacekeepers or AW wants you to email them. I don't agree with
that. I feel the problem should be exposed publically, dealt with and
solved publically. If I sent an email saying the people have suffered
enough, please consider allowing tourists and special building commands, it
seems that works. The question is: Was that problem solved by community
effort? No.

If the problem is personal between a person in bold and the person making
the complaint, like a personality conflict, or a relationship gone bad, I
understand trying to solve that problem with a certain amount of discretion.

However, regarding abuse that does not fit in that category, it is a
detriment - you hear me - a DETRIMENT to the AW community to have to solve
these issues through email. It seeks to limit the power and exclude
citizens of the community. And that is Dead Wrong.

Wake up leadership of AW. Your community is at a clear disadvantage
regarding defending wrong doing, problem solving and negotiating change for
the better of the company and the people.

Avatars the Old Way

Mar 6, 2004, 2:42am
Wish we could have the option of checking and unchecking a box (as in
previous older versions) for our choice of allowing avatars in the main
scene or not. I wish for my world to show it the old way. Thank you.

Fix VRT Clock

Mar 8, 2004, 1:19am
AW Version 3.4 Build 495

VRT Clock adjusts itself to a different time when I adjust my computer
clock. Never the same same, always off a few minutes.

Example:

Computer clock = 8:13PM
VRT clock = 12:15PM

If I were to adjust my computer clock to 8:15PM, the VRT clock would adjust
to a few minutes ahead.

If this problem has not been addressed, please fix so that it is adjusted to
AW server as in previous builds. Some people do not keep the local time on
their computer - this problem was addressed a few years ago and fixed to
rely on AW server time.

should not be so.

I don't play around with mine either. I use Atomic Clock Sync and noticed
when it updated the time, so did my AW browser clock.

Regarding it not being priority, it certainly is priority. Everyone should
be seeing the same VRT. Helps with being prompt for meetings and parties.

General Wish

Mar 26, 2004, 11:12am
Regarding all new, faster, quicker, prettier, mod, rad, popular today kinds
of things added to AW, please allow the world owner the choice of keeping
the old way unless it is a security vulnerability issue.

Thank you.

I'm interested in building a world that would allow a replica of Alpha
world, just as it was in 1995, except using jpg images instead of bmp.
(Bypassing all polygon reducing possibilities - in other words, no
modifications in models, I want the old stuff) Also, would like to include
Jumanji if that is possible - along with the Jumanji avatars.

I wish Sony would allow Jumanji build as it was in 1995 - I understand they
might have some rights to Jumanji, but we use some of the textures every
day. Would be nice to see it the way it was intended years ago. I am aware
Jumanji build can be seen in Alpha World and !History, but would like to
experience the avatars, too.

This world would not have any new models or textures added after completion.
panorama.bmp only. No bots allowed. No peacekeepers. Just AW Police - and
only if they agreed to do it.

A hideout for the Old Timers, a place to reminisce.

Apologies for not making it clearer. : )

Sound Command vs Other Commands

Mar 14, 2003, 1:25am
Curious about this:

sound:forest1.wav

can be used in a command line and work but if you try to use this for
example:

picture:objects.activeworlds.com/aw/textures/pict.jpg
or
sign:"test"

it will not work. Why? If it worked, it would cut out some extra cell data
usage.

Also, what is the difference between the on, yes and off, no command? Do
both sets have exactly the same values 100 percent of the time? If so, why
were they created because on and no are shorter and use less space. Why the
need for two sets?

GK Apps

Apr 20, 2003, 1:35pm
Some applications for GK are not carried through the entire process until a
''yea'' or ''nay'' is concluded.

For someone that enjoys helping and serving others, there's no alternative
but to try to do their best without the proper training.

[AWNews] Tourist Poll

May 2, 2003, 7:24am
Goober King, I think the thing is the registering to vote. To be honest,
it's a pain. Easier for someone to reply to a telegram. I feel you and AWI
want to have an idea of who is voting for what, making sure nobody votes
twice, that sort of thing. I understand that but you aren't going to get as
many votes and comments that way because of the red tape of registering.

Also, it's a privacy issue. I understand AWI's and your take on it, but
geez, some people do like to remain anonymous in their opinions. Anyone
that sends a comment to me gets it posted here anonymously.

I sent out hundreds of telegrams getting your word out, and the result of
who votes at your website remains to be seen, but it doesn't look like there
is much response. On the other hand, I am overwhelmed at the telegrams I've
received with people pretty much pouring their hearts out about their
experiences here. Saddness in seeing tourists restricted, paying out lots
of extra dollars to have them in their worlds only to see few trickle in.
In sharp contrast, maybe it's the combination of having someone one-on-one
to talk with coupled with no red tape in registering that gets the response
wanted and needed. E N Z O, please, put this on a wild colored Post-It Note
on the top of your desk and think about it seriously before you make your
tourist decision.

Html Teleport Generator Program-Attn Ananas?

May 29, 2003, 1:02am
The sound is just an example as I am working on signs labeled with sounds in
the object yard. It was handy to use those as examples. No, I do not wish
for that sound to play when the link is clicked. Model names will be worked
on next, so I will have teleportable links to rwx names.

Essentially, I'd like whatever I name it in my list to be what comes out as
a teleportable html link to the coordinates. Apologies for the confusion.
Thank you very much in advance for taking that task on. It will save much
time.
