I you ask a GK why they do what they do it is always because they like to
help people, or at least that is what they say, I wonder how many Gks would
still be GKs if they took all the perks like 50% off AW purchases and
citizen extensions and make Gking Completely voluntary with no perks ( I
wonder how many would stick around). There should be a board in the gate
telling what gatekeeper is suppose to be on duty for all to see witch ones
don't show up for their shift and I think if they do not show up for their
shift after certain amount of days should have their cit extensions revoked
and have to pay to renew it, because after all that is what they get that
perk for and they should be doing what they get those perks for

Perks? GKs get perks for being power hungry monsters? That's not fair to the

They deserve it, they put up with the annoying n00b tourists, so we don't
have to, i mean sure a few of them slip through the cracks every once in a
while, but i commend them for what they do, sure sometimes they get out of
line, but they are only human........

of products such as world servers, and certain months of citizenship extension
for a certain amount of months served in a community organization (I think 6 - 6).
To meet the requirements you must make at least one 2-hour shift every week,
and you must provide shift reports and logs if necessary to prove that.

I don't think these perks are a reason for people to become Gatekeepers,
because they usually do not know about them before starting in the program.
I myself started gatekeeping back in 1997 when we did not have discounts,
extensions nor eject powers, so yes I would still be a GK even without them.
I've won enough citizenship extensions in different contests to last me a virtual lifetime,
and I don't bother using the server discount either because it must be requested beforehand.

That would be nice. I have frequantly checked the GK website to see if they
have posted their members list. It would be nice to know whos whos like the
PKs...

Also, I have noticed that alot of the anomosity directed towards the GK/PK
programs is either from bitter teenages to young to apply, or by long time
citizens who resent the need for such orginizations in a once simple
Universe. Just my observations.

Lemmings do things mindlessly. I've known Carl long enough to know that
he'll do things his own way if he wants. Most people are sheep. If ya
don't believe me, look at the war protests. :) But that would invite the
comments of others around here. :p

OK good for you. So since you have been around for such a long time why did
they have to implement these perks? was it to recruit more people or what. I
applaud you because at least you volunteered to be one before they even had
the perks but I wonder what would happen if they stopped doing the perks and
made all of the volunteers pay for their cits like everyone else does.

Amen Chris. While the GK's have their problems (Mainly in the definition of
the rules varying severely between them), they provide a neccessary service.

The majority of the hellraising here is just from loud mouthed children who
are just looking for an outlet for all that those random teenaged emotions
that they're afraid to let loose on anyone within range of retaliation.

I WAS a GK and the "perks" would have made no difference to me....I thought it was very nice of them to offer them when they did but we(as GK's) were not asking for anything from them(AWI) I believe they(the perks) were given as a token of appreciation from AWI towards the GK's and all that they DO do for the community.

And if they stopped doing the perks I believe nothing would change...or very little would. Might lose a selfish GK or two, but i think most all would stay and do what needs to be done.

you my friend, have no idea what life is all about. what you are doing is
tring to tell someone that getting rewarded for doing work is wrong. thats
like going to a receptionist and telling her she should be getting paid!
the motive for work isnt what should be discussed, but weather the work is
getting done or not, and it seems to be getting done, so just drop it this
subject! its really none of your business what AW do...

Yes....we put up with all the troublemakers and help out in ActiveWorlds to
make it a better place. I do other things besides teach and all that doesn't
get me ANYTHING......but I still do it because I enjoy it.. So before you go
and criticize and bash every teacher, WK , GK , and PK.....perhaps you

you are wrong you do get something and that is the 25% off and the cit
extensions. and me as a citizen have to put up with the same people you do
and i have helped newbies and get them started on the basic building
techniques without the perks that you have. You being nitpicky as to
complain about someones typo i dont know weather that is a good trait for a
teacher to have is it?
