WISH - Universe Teleporting AbilitiesAug 25, 2003, 12:12am
Hi everyone:
this idea has been swirling in my head for the last several weeks. What if we had the ability to teleport from one UNIVERSE to another. Here's how it would work.... We know that if you click on the TELEPORT pull dowqn menu, it gives you a dialog box asking you what world and the coords. you want to teleport to, right?? Of course. MY idea would be to add a UNIVERSE field in that dialog box. In other words, let's say I wanted to teleport from my location on AlphaWorld in the AW Universe to a world on OuterWorlds. I would enter something like the following information.... INIVERSE: owuniv WORLD: owgate COORDS: 0N OE Using my present location on alphaWorld as an example, this information would take me from 4925N 176E on AlphaWorld in the AW Universe to the Ground Zero area of OWGate on the OuterWorlds Universe ALL WITHOUT SWITCHING BROWSERS!!!! Pretty cool, eh??? Comments anyone?? Hi everyone:
I'm sure this message had a purpose back in the day, but the "This Area Is Too Crowded" error message from Building Inspector has outlived its usefulness IMO. Not only that, but it also hinders a builder's ability to be CRAFTY both inside AND outside of their build. One doesn't need to go any further than the immediate area surrounding AlphaWorld to see the SKELETON structures of (now) run-down ghetto-looking buildings to see what I mean. Another example of this is in Yeti City, which has HUGE buildings WITH NO FLOORS (let alone anything else!) AT ALL in many cases. PLEASE......PLEASE.....PLEASE AWI....._GET RID_ of the "This Area Is Too Full" message in Building Inspector so that we can MAKE USE of some of that furniture Lara GENEROUSLY put in her object yard (and do so on more than one or two floors). Just my opinion.... I liked the ability to have the contacts, teleports, and telegrams tabs off to the side like 3.3 and 3.4 did as opposed to having to open a popup window just to answer or send a telegram. Perhaps AWI could make this an OPTION in 3.6 when it's released? And what is with having all those STUPID looking icons for the toolbar? They're too big. Make 'em smaller. I'm cross-posting this over to wishlist to ensure appropriate feedback and exposure. Aside from those things, I really can't complain about 3.5. I kinda like it despite the aforementioned nuances. :-) Hope this helps. :-) Cheers for now :-) PC Hamster Mayor - City Of Hamsterville pchamster at comcast.net Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) http://hamsterville.tripod.com/ Cube Cell GridJun 13, 2004, 2:04pm

Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I've been known to chat (albeit via telegram) while racing down the highway going from one town to another or simply while EXPLORING (Speaking of exploring....Does ANYBODY do this on AlphaWorld anymore?). > People who like to spend some of their online time building quietly without announcing they are online at the moment are not necessarily people who don't like other people, or who are trying to be hermits. Many people simply don't like to offend others by making it obvious (via the yellow question mark) that they have not added everyone to their contacts list.< This fits me to a T Lara. :-) Although I don't hide my online status simply out of fear of offending someone, I usually don't mind if they drop by for a chat or send me a telegram. Though if they're being a pest, I'll either ignore them or I'll tell them outright to stop. If they don't, they're not only put on my contacts list, but they're also SH*TLISTED as I mentioned in my last post. If that means having a sh*tlist too, then so be it (mine isn't very long anyway, not that I would *like* to add someone, mind you :-)). There are only a small handful of times I don't like to be bothered. Yesterday was one such time (Seiya Faye can attest to this). I told SF that I was on my way to Clearfield to see some of the stuff Mr. E had been raving about, but she wanted me to stop & chat (As most of you know, I like to travel by road :-)). I told her I didn't want to chat right then & why. She understood, although she did invite me to join her and her friends. I declined. End of story. She wasn't sh*tlisted. I just simply ended the conversation. She went back to whatever she was doing before. Long and short of it is this. Not everyone who likes to chat does so at GZ. Afterall, why even have a GZ area if no one is going to move away from there and go to other parts of the world? Hi everyone:
I have a suggestion that I think is LONG overdue. Since Tourist builds can be either duplicated by a cit simply by taking over the land or outright deleted, does it really make much sense to have Cit. No. <0> on BI's list of Protectable Property which can't be enchroached on? If not, why have BI protect Tourist builds by treating them as though they were cit builds? I ask this because I'm in the process of duplicating such a build using the very land it sits on (thus PRESERVING it) which will be my house (To keep vandals away, I won't say where it is) and I'm having to fight BI almost literally tooth & nail to get the job done. Tourist builds were NEVER meant to be protected, yet BI is doing just that. If Tourist builds are being treated this way, then why should NAC builds be treated any differently? I mean isn't the name <NOT A CITIZEN> *really* the same thing as <Tourist> ??? Be honest. Just something to think about :-) Cheers for now :-) PC Hamster Mayor - City Of Hamsterville pchamster at comcast.net Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) http://hamsterville.tripod.com/ HAMSTERVILLE GROUND ZERO - AW 5029N 500E (NEW COORDINATES!!!) Hi everyone:
[View Quote] Isn't there like a 21 object limit? If so, it would be difficult (if not utterly impossible) to duplicate a fully furnished house (or even a partially furnished one for that matter) originally built by a tourist, to call your own. Not to mention you also have to first remove any land cover there may be in the direction you want to move the property (which is no big deal). Otherwise you end up with a partially moved build (if that). Such was the case with my house at 5089N 1000E. It was a toruist build with LOADS of furniture and other interior objects as well as a swimming pool and patio. I spent the better part of an entire weekend duplicating EACH & EVERY object as well as adding some of my own stuff :-) (A bot could've probably done it in minutes, but I like to "get my hands dirty" :-)). > Registry works a slightly different way: > Each time you try to add an object, it checks if the surrounding (within > the 9 surrounding cells) objects' fingerprint is touching the newly added > object. > If any of them does - it has to belong to the same owner otherwise it > complains about encroachment. If the owner is the same, the build is > successful. > Tourists are owners too in this system. > > In other words - objects are not registered but the actual collision is > checked based on the registry file, which holds the enclosing box sizes. > To keep it simple and fast, the objects' fingerprint is a rectangle only > and the server only checks the neighboring cells (which is a big problem > if your object's size exceeds that potential area or it is not centered). > Of course this method doesn't check the move and rotate actions for > encroaching - this is why you can have naughty vandalizing in AW world :( However, there HAS to be a way in which BI could be configured whereas ANY object created by Cit. No. 0 can be enchroached upon, isn't there? That goes to the crux of the point I'm trying to make here. :-) Cheers for now :-) PC Hamster Mayor - City Of Hamsterville pchamster at comcast.net Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) http://hamsterville.tripod.com/ HAMSTERVILLE GROUND ZERO - AW 5029N 500E (NEW COORDINATES!!!) Hi everyone:
[View Quote] Copying chunks is pretty much what I did. Room by room. I made sure I had one piece of each piece of land cover and roofing used by the tourist that could be duplicated. The walls were done one at a time (This is what took the longest and was the hardest and MOST frustrating part, especially in areas where the street on the OTHER side of some of the land cover was NOT mine). The furniture was done in chunks, depending on the number of items in a particular area and what the items were. (It also depended on whether or not I wanted to keep it). The outside was rather easy. The swimming pool, front yard patio, and flower bed were no sweat at all. The fencing was a little testy, but was quickly mastered once I had a system going. :-) Of course, as you can probably imagine, I've added a few things since the completion of my house. Feel free to stop by and take a look at it. It's at AW 5089N 1000E. Look for the one with the sign that says "PC Hamster's Place" in front. Do note I may be "asleep" on the couch.
