Hi everyone:
[View Quote] Who else would (or COULD) think of taking ordinary objects such as a lamp, a TV, or a computer and creating virtual images thereof (and make them look so REAL in the process :-))??? > Most builders have no objection to new features being added to > Alphaworld IF they don't harm old builds and DO make building more > creative and enjoyable. I wouldn't mind seeing rotate and move > enabled in Alphaworld as long as the Garbarge Elimination Team (GET) > is willing to clean-up any vandalism that might result. One thing *I* would like to see is a street object that curves much a "C" effect as this would make creating roads and getting around builds MUCH easier.... :-) > I don't think many builders would object to a pretty daytime skybox > replacing the mountain backdrop. A day or two of steady "night" in > Alphaworld is fine on rare occasions, like they used to do in the good > old days; but gawd, please with a realistic night skybox...not with > that monstrous rising-earth backdrop! :-) How 'bout rotating them according to VRT??? And add WEATHER effects too... :-) > If E N Z O is truly interested in adding things that *builders* want in > Alphaworld - things that would result in cheers rather than jeers - all he > has to do is add a few new objects every month. For example: new trees, > new plants, a car or two, some animals, train tracks, varied hill sets, > more poles with different angles, more furniture/appliances that match > the size of the old furniture sets. I wouldn't mind a car avatar (even in Alpha prime) as I've often had the BIKE avarar referred to as a SNOWMOBILE..... I hafta sometime keep telling them to think of it as a Honda motorcycle. Aside from that, I really can't think of anything offhand right now.... :-) Cheers for now :-) Patrick Cook Mayor - City of Hamsterville (which is getting some new builders - YAY! :-)) pchamster at attbi.com Denver, Colorado (my REAL city) [AWNews] AlphaWorld PollFeb 28, 2003, 6:52am
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] I don't agree with this because Tourist builds, NO MATTER HOW GREAT THEY ARE, can (and in the VAST MAORITY of the cases WILL) be deleted or damaged by a citizen. Look at the number of fragmented tourist builds on AW today. Look at the number of tourist builds which are now COMPLETELY gone because a citizen either didn't like it or wanted to build something else where the tourist build was standing. Given this, there's NO incentive for a tourist to keep on building. I say - AND I WILL REPEAT (again!) - Give tourists ACCESS to AlphaWorld, but DO NOT give 'em building rights > 2. Drop the price of citizenship to $35 per year. This I **TOTALLY** agree with. > 3. Let people chat freely at Alphaworld gz with the CA > monitoring for flooding and blatant obscenity. > Peer pressure and "mute" can work wonders. So can a PK equipped with ejection privs. Anyone who's acting like an ass should be TREATED like one. In other words - EJECT 'EM!!! Don't mess around.... > 4. Allow world owners to let tourists back into their worlds at > no extra charge. Agreed. Besides, it's THEIR world..... > 5. Do what it takes to make sure Active Worlds pops up at or > near the top on search engines for as many of these things as > possible: 3D Chat, 3D Communities, 3D Building, > Virtual Worlds, Virtual Communities, Virtual Chat, Virtual > Life, Online Communities AMEN!!!! Also audio and banner ads on Live365 & AudioRealm (since many towns and worlds also have online radio stations which get LOTS OF LISTENERS). Every chance I get, I've been talking up ActiveWorlds within the Live365 Community. I also do the same for Live365 here from time to time. :-) > 6. Get free interviews - again, again and again. Never stop > lookig for free ways to get the word out about Active Worlds. Yeah....Call FOX NEWS. :-) > I can think of lots more things, but that will do for starters. Then too, HE probably wonders why I *DO NOT* use the mapper and rely on what I encounter WITHIN THE AW BROWSER while laying down road. :-) OTOH....When laying down road, there's NOTHING more frustrating than running into objects I didn't even know existed BECAUSE THE MAP DOES NOT SHOW THEM!!!! :-( > ...or, AW needs a new "hero" who will start a new mapping service. Hi everyone:
I have an idea which doesn't really need to be on the wishlist and can be done by the AW Community :-) As I write this, I am on my way from Hamsterville to Blankaborg to pay BlankaM and his/her wonderful town a visit (In fact I'm sitting on the highway out in the middle of nowhere at 4280N 1080E headed SE right now), but as I was driving down the road, I stumbled across a BRILLIANT IDEA!!! What if someone kept a directory of Internet Radio stations serving a particular towmn and/or world complete with primary genre as well as Virtual TV stations that do the same. then this way, for example, people visiting Hamsterville could listen to MusicRadio 102X (a Soft Rock/Oldies AC station), Jeeper One Red & Blue Networks (a pair of Old Time Radio stations) or either one of the Jeeper One Comedy Network stations (one is a dialup station and the other is a broadband station). In addition, visitors could watch the local TV stations (once they're online) too. And if you're sitting out in the middle of nowhere like I am now, one could listen to one of the MANY "virtual satellite" stations out there with NO ties to any particular town (such as WOLF-FM).once you "drive out of range" of a station serving a particular town or teleport from one world to another. :-) Comments anyone?? :-) Patrick IDEA: Radio/TV Station Directory...Apr 19, 2003, 7:38pm
Hi everyone:
[View Quote] It can be simpler than that Comit ( think Goober's just having a bad day/start to weekend or something :-)), but what I was talking about is basically localized content (or VIRTUAL signal strength as it were). The directory can be a simple web page on a freebie service like Tripod which is updated periodically and would consist of the following.... * Station name (obviously) * Station Genre(s) * Station's make-believe Frequency (if applicable) * Station Website * Player(s) required to listen to the station * Distance in all 8 directions (in meters) from town in which the station can be "heard" (suggested distance being 500 meters from the edge of town, but can, of course, vary depending on terrain, VIRUAL signal strength and other factors) Mind you, none of this is in any particular order, but is merely an example :-) Of course, Internet Radio stations have no barriers as far as how far its signal goes, but the content can be localized. Once you're beyond the content range of the station, about the only way you're going to partake in an event is if you either A). Race back to town or B). Teleport or warp yourself to the event. TV stations could be listed in a similar fashion as all that would be need is the following.... * Station Name or Make Believe Call Letters (obviously) * Station Channel No. * Station Website or Webpage (if applicable) * Information on how the station can be viewed * Distance in all 8 directions (in meters) from town in which the station can be "viewed" (suggested distance being 500 meters from the edge of town, but can, of course vary depending on terrain, VIRTUAL signal strength and other factors) Again....None of this is in any particular order, but is merely an example :-) Of course, Internet or Virtual TV stations have no barriers as far as how far its signal goes, but the content can be localized. Once you're beyond the content range of the station, about the only way you're going to partake in an event is if you either A). Race back to town or B). Teleport or warp yourself to the event. Additionally, signs can be posted like billboards throughout town and in the surrounding coverage area so visitors will know where to tune in for all the latest happenings in and around town. Of course, virtual signal strengths can also vary on you imagination as well. All that's needed is a little CREATIVITY. :-) Finally, if you don't want your station to have ANY limits whatsoever (like ABN, XEON, etc.), then your station can be listed as ORIGINATING from a particular town or world (In other words, if Fox News were to be listed, it would be listed as being a network or station from New York as that's where it's headquarters are). Do ya follow my idea NOW Goober?? :-) Hope this helps :-) Cheers for now everyone :-) Patrick Cook (e.g. PC Hamster) Mayor - City of Hamsterville pchamster at arttbi.com Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) Does ANYONE Know How To Make (or where I can get) The following....Apr 19, 2003, 8:02pm
Hi everyone:
I've got a few building projects in mind (yes I said BUILDING projects....As in I actually CREATE A BUILDING), however in order to do them the way I'd like, I need to know how I can make (or whwe I can get) the following.... * Budweiser logo (I know FierceFerrette has a Miller Beer logo in his bar on Abbey Road) but I'd like a Budweiser logo for events and a sports bar I plan to build near Bear Stadium in the Cedar Town District (there is some open space nearby that I can take up) * Sale mages of electronics and furniture stores - After seeing the shopping mall BlankaM built in Blankaborg, I figured a shopping mall would look nice in Hamsterville as well. However, I'd like to have it sell MORE than just clothes. I plan on adding a few electronics and maybe furniture stores as well (No...I don't plan on making any REAL $$$ off this mall, it's strictly a virtual mall :-)). Some sale images from grocery stores would be useful as well, though maybe not neccessarly for the mall * Gas Station Bell - A good sized town like Hamsterville needs a place for someone to get some go juice for their car. However, I'm thinking about building the gas stations around Hamsterville a lot like the full service stations of yesteryear in the RW (Remember the old Conoco, Texaco, Amoco, or Phillips 66 your parents or grandparents used to go to when you were just a kid in the back seat always asking the question of "Are We There Yet?" that your kids ask nowadays) :-) I can embed this bell within an object which would sound when someone pulls into the station. :-) If anyone could help me out here, it would be appreciated (Even source URLs would do if the image isn't on a service which blocks remote linkage of images). :-) Many thanks in advance & Cheers for now :-) Patrick Cook (e.g. PC Hamster) Mayor - City of Hamsterville pchamster at attbi.com Denver, Colorado (my REAL city) Does ANYONE Know How To Make (or where I can get) The following....Apr 20, 2003, 6:22am

[View Quote] If so, then I suppose we should all take down all the Coke-a-Cola and other similar stuff too because those are copyrighted too. However, the Budweiser logo is as much of an institutional icon as the aforementioned Coke-a-Cola logo. So, HOW do you keep an insitutional icon off of places like AlphaWorld?? Besides, it's not like AWI is making $$$ off of AlphaWorld or featuring it on their website.... Just my opinion....Cheers for now :-) Now, as for the Budweiser logo itself....Justin, do you know of a version which can be used on a sign in a banner-like fashion (the one I got comes with a bottle). FWIW...I made sure the snack bar at my Drive-In theater was equipped with a teleporter with the Coke logo all over it. I also put the logo on a sign outside the snack bar just above the doors. This is THE SAME logo that Lara has in that LOVELY house near her object yard. I don't know if there is a better object to better imitate a vending machine, but if there IS one, DO post as I'd LOVE to replace that teleporter with something that looks more like a REAL vending machine instead of something that looks as if it could easily pass as AN ELEVATOR if ya get what I mean :-) > Just letting you know I don't think you are suppose to use it. You make the > final decison. Well....I *am* making the call and have decided to use them. Afterall, the WORST thing that can happen is the GET is forced to go in and remove the logo, which they can EASILY do WITHOUT deleting an entire build or (even worse) the ENTIRE TOWN. Ever since DfameD not only left town, but TOOK HIS PROPERTY WITH HIM (or deleted it and never relocated it), I've been stuck fixing and straightening roads I had to previously alter to accomondate him and his property (which he NEVER finished I might add), so I'm using this as an opportunity to finish building the Embassy Park District (or at least the street and the park that is :-)). You forget one SMALL probelm Lady. This was all done BEFORE 3.4 was
released as an Open Beta. Things have changed since that time. AlphaWorld is NO LONGER the "prize" world. This honor goes to AWGate (with maybe AWTeen being a close second). Heck, this was all done even before the name change from AWCorp to AWI if memory serves me right. > well, maybe if i get to talk to ENZO himself about it.................which > is unlikely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Registering on AWNews (which IS BTW Goober's OWN SITE and has NO LEGAL RELATIONSHIP with AWI) is really quite painless. All that's needed is a username and an email address that you check regularly. Again, I fail to understand your problem... *scratching head some more* > I have been around here for a long time.. a year before I became a cit.. > makes it about 6 years.. was PK 3 yrs with Razzle etc.. you notice that > without the Tourists.. doesn't seem to be much need for PKs.. Also > being part of Tours world I've not seen many visit there either.. How many meters are there in a mile? 2). To post a sign announcing mileage between two towns using an oddball direction (such as NW), I assume I add up the total mileage in both directions and divide by 2. Am I correct on this? The reason I ask this is becuase I have a sign at the very southern tip of Blankaborg and I would love VERY MUCH to convert the distance in meters to distance in miles to keep it AT LEAST fairly consistent with the other signs in the Blankaborg Metro area. :-) Thanks a bunch in advance for the answers & Cheers for now :-) Patrick Cook (e.g. PC Hamster) pchamster at attbi.com Denver, Colorado (my REAL city :-)) [AWNews] Tourist PollMay 5, 2003, 2:31am

I'm referring to the "More Comments" and "Comments - More" threads. I've always thought the etiquette of newsgroup posting was to keep posts relating to a thread CONFINED to that particular thread and NOT use someone else's post (such as swe's in the above case as he has yet to post in this thread I might add) as a reason to start a NEW thread simply because the old one just became to unbearable to read. It'd be one thing IF you were to add a comment or two and then move on to allow your post to cover something else completely different (such as I did in my last post in the STUMPER ALERT thread which I started when I went on to ask a couple math questions), but all I've seen from YOU is the same ol' same ol' BLATHERINGS over and over again like a broken record. As it stands now, you have (at least) THREE threads which basically cover THE SAME THING!!! Have you EVER thought of CONSOLIDATING your posts into ONE thread??? At least mrbruce got the clue or he'd have had AT LEAST two more threads posted by now. Perhaps you should follow his cue. You could learn a thing or two from him.
