i know...they should have the extras in the OS but have them disbaled by
defualt. Then have like a list of features in the control panel and have the
options to enabled them and so on. They do that a lot, like how they always
put microsoft products in (which aren't always the best - don't know if they
do that in XP though)

It seems almost every day i get a new e-mail anouncing a new security flaw
in one of Microsofts products. I get really pissed at the amount of patches
i have to apply EVERY DAY! Don't they test these things? I say they hire a
hacker to try and hack into their products in a closed invironment.
Companies do that don't they? They should do something more to try and find
these flaws BEFORE people start using them. At least they ARE finding the
flaws though...
Jan 2, 2002, 9:08pm
I am using 98SE..... and it has just as much flaws as XP and ME do....even
more (becuase its had more time to find them). Patches are coming out all
the time even for 98

I tryed a little experiment with this article. I went on a file sharing
network and tryed searching for the NSync CD mentioned in the article and
yes there are already many MANY copies of the songs that are fully
downloadable and playable. I think just having CDs not being able to be
played in the CD drive is a bad idea. I like copying my PAYED cds into mp3
format so that i can play many different CDs withotu swicthing the, while im
at or near the computer. But they are going to have to come up with
somethign good because people usualyl find SOME way to crack it.

I fidn the hard drives, bus thingys, and the megnetic memory very usefull.
As both hard drive capacities would go up to 400gb (so they say) with those
new hard drives and the new bus spee dthingy majingy makes your system catch
up to the processing speeds (which are limited due to slow bus speed). and
the magnetic memeory keeps its data even after shutdown. So when you turn on
your comp the memory is loaded and boom your back to your desktop. No more
waiting for startup (unless you need to reboot)

> An executable was forwarded to me yesterday which looked suspicious to the
citizen who sent it, filename AWHack33a.exe. It was supposed to be one of
these "AW Hack" utilities that enable flying, object selection etc...thing
is that it was more than that. When I run it (in the lab of course, isolated
from my networks, packet sniffing enabled) it proved what could be seen
easily in hex, it connected to oriox.com and started downloading
http://www.oriox.com/awpics/test.ex* (domain name looks familiar?), saved
the file as winhlp32.exe and autoexecuted it. File was identified as trojan
Sub7 2.1. AWC has been informed about this with all proof of concept.

> A piece of advice: Do not run *any* executable that comes from
untrustworthy sources. Even when you *think* you trust someone, think twice
before running their "coolbot" or "jokes" executable. When you run someone's
exe he "owns" your machine, it's that simple. This might have been an easy
to prevent attack but there are a lot more sophisticated methods out there.
Some links that might be useful to prevent "hacker" wannabes from getting in
your machine, lots of other great products out there but I can't list them
all. Note that *none* of these provide 100% security, do not trust blindly
your firewall and virus scanner, use of common sense is assumed.
