Melt The Snow Away

lol, sit next to the fire with and eat the marshmellows then! :)
or visit tikiland! (my world!, sorry, couldn't resist the free plug). still
very early in construction, but hey, it's warm!

Html support in Tag 200?

Feb 13, 2005, 2:07pm
just my opinion, but that would probably take farrr too long to make, and so
wouldn't really be worth the time. AW could add something far more useful.
until then, people can learn to turn websites into jpegs, and upload them!
:)
or someone could spend a month making a php script to do it?

just my opinion.

Air Pockets Under Water

Mar 3, 2005, 11:38pm
hmm, maybe if water was designed like terrain, except with 2 sides? would
make for some pockets, long as you don't want any more water under, would be
easy to design the water thing in your world, and would be easy to calculate
if the user is in the water, to change the parameters (just check if they're
over the bottom limit, and under the top limit).

Air Pockets Under Water

well, i definatly agree about the terrain. its too freaking large to make
nice, smooth, realistic looking terrain. definatly need to make each terrain
cell smaller.
as for physics system, would be nice, but would probably take wayyy too much
time/resources to implement. and guessing AW doesn't have enough
programmers/time to do a good job of it, seeing all the other updates
they've added.

Bring back docked tabs window!

Feb 24, 2005, 6:27pm
if you do that(acting as if the dock isn't a seperate window), then when
turning, you don't actually turn at the center of whats left of the 3d
window, so it looks wierd. and, certain objects you should see, which are
hidden, so can feel irritating too, so i'm guessing, when building, and
exploring, it could be quite irritating.

The Toolbar

Mar 3, 2005, 11:35pm
i agree about the world part. would be nice if i could have a toolbar on my
op, which would be loaded by each user who enters. could make for a few
pretty nice features.

World rating (diffrent type)

Mar 9, 2005, 8:10pm
Would be nice if when a visitor comes into a world, they could rate it, out
of either 5 stars, or out of 10. and then, it would show on the world list,
and so, would make world hoping alot more interesting, when you know which
worlds are well built.

World rating (diffrent type)

ya but, other then the few n00bs, no one will bother. and could make it so
ever citizen only gets 1 vote.could be controlled by the world server if you
guys are going to start talking about strain on the uni server.,

Avatars.dat loads everytime you enter world.

Apr 9, 2005, 4:34pm
ya, if thier isn't a new version of the object, it doesn't download
anything..
just change the refresh rate, especially while working on objects. i
personally always keep the refresh rate at 0 while working on my world.

Avatars.dat loads everytime you enter world.

Apr 9, 2005, 10:45pm
ya, guess for the avatar list only, if it would check everytime, no matter
the object refresh rate, would be nice. just don't think it would be that
big an issue to most world owners, seeing how most people don't update thier
avatars that often.

that. check www.oct31.de

Outdated webpages...

Apr 18, 2005, 7:53pm
oh ya, people were bitching about the bot coming into thier worlds.
people need to stop complaining about every little thing. don't argue for
the sake of arguing...
could have been a pretty nice feature too.

renaming multiple objects

May 6, 2005, 9:25pm
ukkhhh, it's a modelerrr! :P
and ya, i think tivolorans idea would be great, would make things alot
simplier, since now, when i want to change something, have to either delete,
and rebuild everything, or change it one by one, which is really annoying.
Too lazy to use a xelagot too and hell, i shouldn't need to! bots aren't
there to make up for aw's features, they're simply there to compliment them.

Active Worlds & x64

when running on a 64bit system.

lol, ya, it's probably not very important, AW would be better off adding new
features, and improving the graphics (especially the water, terrain, and
object materials)

Active Worlds & x64

"3D rendering is not really what we see when you think and generally want
to talk about 3D rendering. Building meshes with 3DS max and animations
is more along the lines of what you're infering here. Simply drawing
polygons on a screen is not really 3D rendering."

Emm, drawing polygons on a screen is exactly what 3d rendering is. The only
diffrence between how 3ds max renders, and AW, is that in 3ds max, it uses
much more advanced calculations, and thats why it takes longer.

"Hell, 512 is more than enough for normal users and most gamers."
Well, dunno about that, i'm on 1gb and thinking of upgrading, but maybe
that's just because i always want to have the best everything?
anyway, ya, 4GBs and wayyy more then enough for now, and definatly for
atleast another 5 years for home users. But for work stations, like, proper
3d work stations, guessing in 2-3 years, 4gbs might not be enough, seeing
how quickly 3d art is evolving.

Fact is, when there's more available, more will be done.

Vehicles

May 24, 2005, 1:14am
don't see why it would be that hard? just need to have to change to more
realistic physics while in driving mode, and limit the diffrent types of
vehicles, but could have it so each vehicle is a totally seperate avatar, so
that the avatar doesn't actually ride it, but a new avatar appears, as say,
a car, or whatever. Would be quite simple in my opinion.

Well all i'm saying is that there's a simple solution to everything.

well, technicly aw already has physics, it's just really basic, but
otherwise, the collision detection and gravity wouldn't work.

emm, no, the thing about store shelfs, is first you'll have to find a
publisher/distrubtor to get it there, and the chances of finding one for AW
are damn near impossible.
Second, they can't put htem up themselfs, because shelf space costs money,
and unless alot of people buy the AW CD from stores(which is really
doubtful), then putting it thier would just be a waste of money.

What they could do, is make AW CDs, free ones, similiar to the AOL ones, and
either pay to have them in a store, near the counter, and handed out for
free. this would probably cost less then having them in stores, but still,
doubt AW could afford it, atleast not on a big scale, and anything small
wouldn't be very useful, or they could put all the CDs into peoples mail
boxes, but, nowadays, not many people are going to trust a CD they found in
thier mailbox, with all the viruses going around.

For aw, what i'm guessing would be the most effective way of selling it, is
adverting on popular websites. Gamer websites, or cartoon websites.
What i think they also could do, is make a few more proper AW worlds,
involving some sorta games or anything addictive and so people have
something to come to when they visit AW, and a reason to register, instead
of coming only to find hundreds of worlds made purely out of AW stock
objects.

Camera view

ok, i wish the distance perception (i.e: field of view) in aw was a little
more realistic.
It's just annoying to create a 2 meter wide dock or whatever, and have it
look like it's barely a meter wide.
and you could say make everything twice as big, but that won't make much of
a diffrence, because of the avatar is twice as big, it would look the same,
because your twice as high from the ground.
Well, i think it would be nice if it was more realistic, so the size of
everything you make, looks more realistic too.

actually, i think with AW, the number on the left (i.e:3) used to symbolise
the renderware version? not too sure though.

well as bots spamming people in places were bots aren't allowed, and some
other things.

oh, in the adding your details thing, you put united kingdom down twice.
just letting you know, incase you'd be able to search for people based on
where they lived.
but the thing is pretty nice. only problem is nobody uses things for long,
unless they are intergrated into the AW browser.

Expressive Avatars

Aug 19, 2005, 7:25pm
em, that wouldn't work, since the avatar would be only loaded once.
my guess is that the only way to do it would have a bot make a new avatar,
with a new texture (from a texture or whatever), then upload it, the
texture, and avatar.dat, and then change that person's avatar, and to top it
all off, have everyone bounce to reload the avatar.dat, since i believe they
have to, to see the new avatars.

plus, chances are it will never happen, but seriously, in my opinion, if AW

There would have to be two "modes" one basic with the current way and one
with the script as new users and none programmers probly dont know how
scripts work
