I Think it would be cool if you could add vehicles like There.com and have
only the person that builds the car object can use the car. In my opinion it
probably would be hard to add but it might be possible

Its not that simple X_X And its been requested many times, but would be
quite a challenge to implement

don't see why it would be that hard? just need to have to change to more
realistic physics while in driving mode, and limit the diffrent types of
vehicles, but could have it so each vehicle is a totally seperate avatar, so
that the avatar doesn't actually ride it, but a new avatar appears, as say,
a car, or whatever. Would be quite simple in my opinion.
Well all i'm saying is that there's a simple solution to everything.

Pretty much....vehicle avatars. I'm guessing it may be a two part system.
The vehicle itself, and, where its allowed to travel. There might be some
type of special object or way of "Drawing" where they can go, which would
probably be made to fit the road objects.

Probably the easiest way to do this is just make an accellerator for warps.
Like if I want to check out builds going along the N-S road from AW GZ, I
can set the accellerator to like 10 mph or even 5 mph and plot in the
coordinates of where I want to go and then woosh there I go. Also make a
Stop button in case you want to stop and look around at something. Also
maybe even making a course plotter so you can change directions along your
journey.

What about passengers?! teh Avatar way wouldn't allow that, but having a
moving object interact with avatars, like in most 1st prson shooters,
then the implimentation wouldnt be too hard. The hard part would be
steering and whatnot!
Bean
May 24, 2005, 4:46pm
That + Vehicle avatars is a good idea, The warp setting should have a
speed function. As for passengers, a "follow" could be implemented so
that people can right click avatars and click Follow to automatically
follow them. If the vehicle av is not centered, then The follow function
should make the person look like they are in the vehicle av.

I'm with Bean here. Instead of what was suggested with AVs, vehicles somehow
need to be implemented, say with like a bus where passengers can ride. You
would have a driver (who operated the controls) and passengers who sat down,
etc. This would be hard, but I know other games have it :)

Yes. Like roads, highways. Your vehicle would slow down/speed up as you
watch the scenery go by. You would actually feel the bumps of the car. If
you went offroad you would feel the terrain, etc.

1.active worlds does not have a physics engine 2.AWI is not even gonna think

Well.... there are those in the know who are beta testing some form of
physics implementation for 4.1... Your speculation is a bit off, Alin.

well, technicly aw already has physics, it's just really basic, but
otherwise, the collision detection and gravity wouldn't work.

Log onto Broadway World. Select the Taxi cab avatar.
That's probably about as close as we'll see to an actual vehicle on
AlphaWorld (that is IF ENZO & Co. have even thought of building a car
avatar like that).
Beyond that, one would have to hope that AWI finally realizes that THE
ONLY way they're really gonna some SERIOUS $$$ is if they put the
ActiveWorlds browser ON STORE SHELVES and charge only a nominal ANNUAL
fee for cits.
But that would be asking A LOT of AWI just to even *consider* the idea...
Cheers for now :)

I don't know how many people would pay with the annual fee, its not nearly
as convienent as the monthly/yearly fee system.

emm, no, the thing about store shelfs, is first you'll have to find a
publisher/distrubtor to get it there, and the chances of finding one for AW
are damn near impossible.
Second, they can't put htem up themselfs, because shelf space costs money,
and unless alot of people buy the AW CD from stores(which is really
doubtful), then putting it thier would just be a waste of money.
What they could do, is make AW CDs, free ones, similiar to the AOL ones, and
either pay to have them in a store, near the counter, and handed out for
free. this would probably cost less then having them in stores, but still,
doubt AW could afford it, atleast not on a big scale, and anything small
wouldn't be very useful, or they could put all the CDs into peoples mail
boxes, but, nowadays, not many people are going to trust a CD they found in
thier mailbox, with all the viruses going around.
For aw, what i'm guessing would be the most effective way of selling it, is
adverting on popular websites. Gamer websites, or cartoon websites.
What i think they also could do, is make a few more proper AW worlds,
involving some sorta games or anything addictive and so people have
something to come to when they visit AW, and a reason to register, instead
of coming only to find hundreds of worlds made purely out of AW stock
objects.

MicroSoft did a cool promo where they wanted to promote Age of Destiny,
which is new version of Age of Empires. They made free a cd of Age of
Empires, and put it in the large NutraGrain cereal box. Whenever you loaded
it you'd see the promo.

No, I think Gnu was right. Didn't AW put the 2.0 COF version on the shelves
somewhere? Like for a month or so. I thought I remembered it being given out
