but what about AW? nothing ever goes on there.. same with AWGate. Yellow & Mars appear higher up on the world list often times and
they don't have events either.. But it is true that events make the world grow imensely, look at AWTeen, I can't stand the design,
nor a lot of the people who go there, or even how it is run for that matter, but because they always have events I even find myself
looking around every once in a while..

: As for WildAW's "death", that wasn't entirely the community's fault. You can't just
: build a world, leave it as is, and expect a community to spring to life around it.
: There has to be proof that the world is *alive*, meaning things are changing and

: eventually, the novelty wore off. If you want to make worlds active, you have to

Here's another thing.. we whine about AWC not listening to us, yet Facter is listening to our every word.. hmm..
[View Quote]"nornny" <Nornny1 at home.com> wrote in message news:3b58266a$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com...
: Apparently, you guys want a rewrite of this community charter and Facter
: said start a thread and he'll give it the time of day, so, if you guys are
: too slow or lazy to start one, I will.
:
: Here's the BIGGEST oppurtunity we might ever get from AWC, so you might as
: well take advantage of it before you begin your sulky
: "AWC-never-listens-to-us" and "yes-they-do" battles. :)
:
: Topics we'll prolly need to discuss for adding/deleting/editing the charter:
:
: 1) HTML posting - personally, I think the best compromise we'll EVER reach
: here is to use HTML in general.discussion and use plain text in community.
: Keep one old school and keep the other new school. Punishment? I don't think
: it's really worth a punishment, though, whoever does will prolly get
: extremely abused and that's enough of a spanking. If worse comes to worse,
: submit an abuse report for breaking newsgroup rules.
:
: 2) What we REALLY talk about - The charter has been somewhat outdated on
: topics we discuss in some aspects. Basically, I think off-topic is spam, not
: plugs and swears, not flame wars. You guys are just too sensitive to harsh
: criticism in my opinion. I'd like to personally have a clause saying test
: posts should be dumped in the general.discussion newsgroup also. I know it's
: kinda difficult at this moment for a newbie to even FIND the
: general.discussion, but by the time this charter is in the final stages,
: Facter will have a new website anywho (yes, that long. j/k)
: As for Eep style language...I dunno, that's a brain twister. He's harsh,
: brutally harsh. It's obvious we shouldn't give him any mercy for his
: language like we give the HTMLers. I say, don't accept the "yo
: twit<expletive>" here in the community, but accept it in the
: general.discussion. Seems clear enough. A newsgroup without Eep would be a
: mess, as we so thoroughly see time and time again. The guy has a bunch of
: references, who wants to lose that part of the gene pool. lol. And if you
: think about it, some people REALLY need to evolve and stop starting
: conflicts and start solving them.
:
: Punishment? Facter's one week suspension is good. Hopefully, it doesn't make
: a newbie (or oldie) really mad and just tear up this newsgroup. It's obvious
: we can do it ourselves. ;)
:
: 3) Anything else?? I think there should be something that stops those sly
: and chicken people who cause a ruckus subtly and within the rules, that's
: tough though. We should really highlight more that we're no different than a
: regular non-binary usenet newsgroup and that we follow usenet rules. We
: should really take out the censorship part and replace it with something
: more realistic, as Facter rarely censors any posts, besides one or two of
: Eeps in a blue moon. We can make it legal for Facter to delete or censor
: posts about whatever you guys feel is neccessary, but really just say that
: the newsgroup will deal with you in itself.
:
: That's all, really. :) Opinions, comments, I have my helmet ready for any
: flames, so bring it on. It's time to work together gang. :))

you have to keep in mind that what you might consider irrelivent, another might consider breaking news, where will you draw the
line? who's "oppinion" will decide which is ok?

:
: I agree nornny, also I would like to mention since we don't have something
: besides the first message of a post to judge any response within the thread
: as "off-topic", it is hard to address a flame to a post as being
: "off-topic". My suggestion would be to allow some degree of flaming (I
: prefer the term subjective criticism), but require some intelligent response
: to accompany that flame. This way we know they are at least addressing the
: topic independent of any flame. Those that just flame without adding some
: useful dialogue can be easier dealt with on the basis of not adding
: something else to the conversation and easier to distinguish right and
: wrong.

A Registry tells the server the dimensions of an object, so that they can not overlap the objects of another person, therefor puting
an end to encrouching and vandalizing on covered land.

Yes, I remember that sign way back when.. You could go to Meta and see it.. and occasionally E N Z O, If I remember correctly there

:
: To tell you the truth, I've gone to COFMeta many times (more than I can

*sighs* maybe they'll listen when you say it..
The main point, I feel, is about you being flamed for your comments, I remember telling people time and time again that very reason
is why you don't "actively participate" they beg and beg for something, don't get it then feel it is a plot agains them, or
something, then when you do implement it they find something wrong with it, or another reason to go off. They lack the
understanding that they don't care what they have or get or want, they have a pre-conception that you and others are not listening
to them or trying to work with them, therefor no matter how hard you try they will twist it around to where it seems so. I believe
that your recent posting here has been an extreme novelty, I am honored to come in and see you posting replies to our NG articles
(even though you still have not sent a reply to my e-mail). The community, I think, truly now knows that you do listen to what we
say, however if you pay attention you will still be flamed, still be insulted, times change, but people don't. Rather then be
discouraged by these events and go back into hiding I believe that when a person flames you that you should RESPETFULLY & HONESTLY
respond to their accusations, perhaps then the people who were harrassing might understand that you really do listen to what they
have to say, and the only reason you aren't all for everything we do is because your un a business. There are things you can and
can not do if you own a business, and side with the people on every topic is one you can not. It is not possible, will give the
apperance that you are two faced and eventually people will come up with the idea that it is just a "publicity stunt to feed your
own greed" becuase that is what our society has gotten used to believing. From a business stand point there are defineteley things
which can and can not LOGICALY be done, I believe that you do a very good job at easing people as you inform them what these things
may be. I think you posting to the NGs is a great addition, and will help both you and the community understand eachothers vantage
points. Kudos, E N Z O, and good luck!
[View Quote]"e n z o" <enzo at activeworlds.com> wrote in message news:3b742d62$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com...
: It is you prerogative to see things any way you wish. There was nothing in
: that post slanted to gain your respect or pity. I am merely explaining in a
: personal reply to Goober King the reason why his insinuation was false. He
: had addressed it to "To Whom it may concern". He chose to post it not I.
: The fact he snipped the text I included tells me that perhaps he is being
: incendiary
:
: If you read my words you will see the history of AW. Those are some of the
: facts of its inception. We had practically no money and we worked really
: hard. The people who were employed here at the time were very talented and
: worked very hard. They were not able to make the utopian dreams of not
: getting a paycheck but having a great job and still be able to pay the bills
: work for them. Not one line of code was ever written for AW without having a
: check being attached to it.
:
: I assume that you have a job and if so are probably paid. Those are
: realities none of us escape. Some of us are able to go out on a limb for a
: time with the risk that it could crash and burn. No pity is needed, it
: worked out.
:
: Our success does not mean that we now have to do what every Goober King
: tells us, nor does it give us free reign to ignore him. Many of his ideas
: are valid and good. I have suggested that he work along with JBELL. The
: suggestion to create a world in which we can talk together was discussed at
: the Reunion. Everyone seemed to think it was a good idea. Why not work
: together instead of fractioning off into splinter groups? GK has a lot to
: add. Can he work with AWDebate? Does he want to? Does he need to be the man
: in charge? Does HE represent a majority? He does not address these issues
: with me.
:
: It has been brought up several times as to, "why don't Rick and JP
: participate in the community?" It is simply that no matter what we say we
: get flamed by some very vocal posters who claim to speak for the majority.
: You refuse to listen because you hold on with desperation to your petty
: conspiracy theories. You plot to bring down stock prices or stage a revolt
: so people won't register. When a feature is added it isn't the right one for
: you. When we explain why we do something we are "greedy" or lying. It is
: very disheartening to work hard and then be sworn at, called an idiot or be
: told that you are lying. Many of the topics betray the ignorance of a small
: but very vocal group of zealots. It is quite frankly a waste of time to
: debate with flamers. If this is how you like to spend your time, that is
: your right. I do not think it reflects the majority. I know it does nothing
: to improve your community or the software we write.
:
: The software, the community and the company are here to stay. Why not lose
: the attitude and make it better?

maybe you should have thought of that before you made yourself look stupid..
good try though.. you went through all the effort of taking the screen shot, and risked flaming from posting an attachment.. just to
try and make me look dumb.. and that didn't even work.. though I am honored you spent so much time on me, thanks lane.

why should everyone get a diff news reader so you can post attachments? How fair is that?

I too agree.. maybe also a feature where you can "ghost" from certain people, so that they don't see you online on their contact
list would also be desireable, although a later priority, i'm sure.
