have the worlds and citizenships transferred to this new universe at no

Ethics When Applying to Organizations

Nov 3, 2004, 3:32am
[View Quote] You know what would *really* help, in all seriousness.

To actually see some AWSchool Teachers in AWSchool world helping newbies
every minute of the day like there are GakeKeepers in AWGate almost
every minute of the day.

Instead of having teachers run off to do their own thing in AWNewbie and
what not. There are a lot of Tourists calling out "is there a teacher
here", only to be left in silence, stranded in an empty world.

Are the volunteer incentives (extensions) really that low these days?

Come on guys :o)

person telling you not to worry, the computer has a great video card
doesn't mean a thing.

Perhaps take a screenshot, if you know how and upload the picture to a

It may also be wise to download the latest video drivers for your card,
but then, you don't know what type of card you have, so we can not help
you further in finding the latest drivers.

Even easier for you perhaps is for you to tell us what brand of graphics
card it is? An ATi card or a GeForce card? Anything come to mind?

OT: Security Vulnerabilities Discovered in WinXP SP2

Nov 13, 2004, 6:51pm
Hello All,

Source:
http://www.computerworld.com/securitytopics/security/holes/story/0,10801,97478,00.html

Microsoft probing reported flaws in Windows XP SP2
But it called the reports 'potentially misleading and possibly erroneous'

News Story by Jaikumar Vijayan

NOVEMBER 12, 2004 (COMPUTERWORLD) - Microsoft Corp. yesterday said it is
investigating claims that several new vulnerabilities have been found in
Windows XP Service Pack 2 by security firm Finjan Software Inc. in San
Jose. Finjan on Tuesday announced that it had found as many as 10
"serious" flaws in SP2.

According to Gil Arditi, Finjan's chief security officer, some of the
vulnerabilities could be exploited by hackers to gain complete remote
control of a system or to download malicious code to a compromised computer.

Finjan has notified Microsoft of the vulnerabilities and has shared all
relevant technical details with the company, Arditi said. Finjan has
also developed a proof-of-concept exploit capable of taking advantage of
the flaws, which it has shared with Microsoft.

Per its usual policy, Finjan has no plans to go public with details of
the flaws until Microsoft has patches available for them, Arditi said.
But in a release announcing its discovery, the security company outlined
several scenarios describing how malicious attackers could take
advantage of the SP2 holes to remotely access user files, escalate
privileges and execute malicious code without user intervention.

"By exploiting all vulnerabilities discovered in SP2 by Finjan,
attackers can silently and remotely take over an SP2 machine when the
user simply browses a Web page," the company said in a statement.

Finjan said it released the news of its discovery in part because many
users are being lulled into a feeling of false security by deploying SP2
and "may be letting their guard down," said Tim Warner, Finjan's North
European regional manager.

In an e-mail statement, a Microsoft spokeswoman said the company is
aware of the claims by Finjan and is looking into them. "At this time,
Microsoft cannot confirm Finjan's claims of '10 new vulnerabilities' in
Windows XP SP2," she said.

Microsoft is also currently unaware of any attacks attempting to take
advantage of the flaws described by Finjan, the spokeswoman said. "Our
early analysis indicates that Finjan's claims are potentially misleading
and possibly erroneous regarding the breadth and severity of the alleged
vulnerabilities in Windows XP SP2," the Microsoft statement said.

If any valid vulnerability is found in Windows XP SP2, Microsoft said it
will take "immediate and appropriate action to help protect customers."

Teens in Activeworlds

Nov 14, 2004, 2:17am
[View Quote] Hello Sexy Eyes,

Perhaps this is the time for you to review your competition rules for
your next event.

Have a website up for your competition which has a registration form and
a disclaimer, outlining your rules for participants and rules for the
people who did not win. Those who break these rules will no longer be
able to participate in your competitions.

Also express that users should not delete their builds after the
competition (or remove build rights to prevent this).

Maybe, express that all builds made in the competition become the
property of the world owner for future display, with the builders name
displayed on a sign in front or something to stop issues like this
recurring.

And what about citizenships in SolServers and Galaxies?

Are the worlds integrated into the ActiveWorlds universe perhaps?
Whereas you can access the worlds on their own with no other world

from their worlds list and still enter?

It's confusing in this regards.

Alert: Worm going around

Dec 2, 2004, 12:21am
[View Quote] Hello Josh,

E-mails looking like they come from other people from your domain, which
in fact are not, is actually common these days.

Worms send themselves to all the main addresses of a domain name, such
as webmaster, support, info, admin, sales, abuse and disguise themselves
as if they were someone else from that domain.

Also, what may be happening, is the worm knows it's sending to
you at yourdomain.com and just changes its own e-mail address to
something at yourdomain.com.

Make sense? No one is spending time doing this manually to spite you.

AWRPG Discrimination

Dec 16, 2004, 6:56am
[View Quote] A lot like the Gor worlds perhaps. Gor follow a set of books, a series.
And the Gor worlds try and live life by those books as much as possible.

Though, Gor is a different story. Having both Gor Role Playing worlds
and real life discussion worlds where Goreans follow the lifestyle in
their every day life as much as law permits.

I guess it is much the same for those that enjoy bringing Medieval into
their lives. Or those that like to follow Star Trek or be Jedi's from
Star Wars.

To each their own.
