Computer ID // Communityjaguar hahnDec 12, 2004, 2:18am
I was looking through old NG posts and I came across Panther1403's back
on April 18th, 2003. "Computer ID is your processors serial number which is broadcast to the internet (unless your smart and turned it off). There was a big uproar a few years back when processor makers added this feature. People were so against it that they had to include the option to turn it off. I have left mine on because I'm lazy. But any one who knows about that can turn it off. (Oops have I spilled the beans.)" SNIP I was wondering how to turn your computer ID off. I have a Gateway with XP. Would be nice to know how to do. I believe you're thinking about the "CPU Serial Number". This can be
turned off in the BIOS, but isnt broadcast, nor really used for anything. Activeworlds' "Computer ID" would be the last four digits of your network interface's "MAC Address". There is no nice way to turn this off, but if I remember correctly, you may change it. But, why would you really have any reason to? [View Quote] samuel ml lisonDec 12, 2004, 4:28am

Maybe you've been ejected from a world by Computer ID and you need to
change it? Then again, proxy servers do work also, but result in slower loading times. Yours Sincerely, Samuël ML Lison -- DreamCities.net - A Community for All! I do believe, that all ejections (right click user, and eject) now are
by Computer ID, Citizen Number, and IP address. Or maybe only the first two. Anyways, if you're ejected from a world, it was probably for a reason. [View Quote] |
