What's up with all the Gor worlds? (Community)
What's up with all the Gor worlds? // Community=?iso-8859-1?q?eep=b2?=May 30, 2000, 11:30am
They're starting to creep me out, not that I frequent them or anything, but just seeing them there...and increasing in number is kinda creepy. I mean I can understand why Pokemon worlds keep appearing, but not Gor. For those who don't know, they're adult-oriented worlds related to bondage and discipline (BD). I really have to wonder about the people who create them...and frequent them... I recently read about one person's experience in these worlds, Lord Neo, I believe it was, who made the whole Gor experience seem very psychologically disruptive and frustrating. Anyway, just thought I'd see what others think about this and perhaps try to understand these people's mentality a bit better.

You're right, the influx of Gor worlds over the last year defies belief.
Perhaps they need to all be banished to their own universe (!?) At first i thought odd to compare understanding the reason behind there being dozens of Pokemon worlds to understanding, or rather not understanding the reasons for there being dozens of Gor worlds. However after a bit of thought on it I'm inclined to believe that the reasons for the popularity of both, strange as the comparison is, might in fact be quite simular. >From what I can see, the two obsessions are linked to, i'll call it 'power play'. Every Pokemon fan wants to be the best, thats what its all about.. they want to know more than the next person, they want to have all the cards, play the game, read the book and own the world. Maybe the reasons behind whats up with all the Gor worlds are in fact pretty simular, a power play for adults. With regard to understanding their mentality a bit better; the fact that you, me and no doubt most other people don't understand it is probably a blessing, rather than something to seek answers for ; ) [View Quote] count draculaJun 1, 2000, 11:42am

Yes, that's fine for worlds with "Gor" in their names, but I've run across several that don't even seem to be Gor-related in their name yet as soon as I enter it's some bot or person telling me to "STATE YOUR AGE OUT LOUD", "Tal, Eep", or some other nonsense. It just gets annoying after a while...

I know several other things than "Tal " that is annoying and what you here
in worlds not related to Pokemon nor Gor.For instance total ignorance from PS or worldowner when one enters and says hello is a thing that pisses me off.I have also come across non-gor adult worlds than sometimes have an owner with a bad attitude. I once visited a place where the owner was a man hater. It is not my fault I am born a man LOL Eep² kirjoitti viestissä <3936ac7d$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com>... "Tal So-And-So" is the Gorean greeting used when addressing other Masters
and Mistresses or "free" people. It does not apply when greeting a slave... in which case the word used is "Greetings so-and-so". They way their bots figure out whether to greet with "Tal" or "Greetings" is by whether your nick is capitalised or not. Slaves most use a lower case letter to begin their nick. There is no short explanation about Gorean lifestyle... it takes a while to understand it, longer to get use to it, and even longer to figure out whether its good to be part of or not. The downside of that is for some people who lack control skills and are easily led - they may find themselves in situations that they do not want to be part of with no way to get themselves out. In this respect, it is very much "cult-like". Procede with much caution. And if you do get involved, be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster ride. I have had Goreans come into my world and order their * ahem* "women" around.
At which point I told them to get out of my world and leave their Gorean beliefs to their own. The fact that some ppl take AW's virtual experience too far. Then to have brain washed ppl believing this Gor role playing ( which I was told once they practice outside of AW as well) is awful, especially the portrayal of Slaves and the way the treat their Women with very lil regard or respect. Luring vulnerable women who need affecting online into their roles. Then when they realize the are being used badly, are left emotionally scarred and ostracized by their peers. Each to their own, but certainly not for me, or my Worlds. [View Quote] > "Tal So-And-So" is the Gorean greeting used when addressing other Masters > and Mistresses or "free" people. I understand their behavior when they are in the Gorean worlds, because I
read some of the books , they if I remember correctly (and please don't scream if I get it wrong its been a few years and I have read thousands of books since then) written by a one J Norman or Norman J, either way all this is done because they either read the book (discontinued thank you very much), or were told that just how you operate! And the only reason I know this was that my parents were both Gor nuts to the point of naming me after the main character! To my ever regret for the duration of my childhood. Basically though they should be considerate of others, as in leaving your slavebots at the door to non-Gor worlds. My two-cents on the subject. Tarl F.G. a.k.a. Jeiden P.S. If any Gorean nut shows up on my world and is not polite they will be banned for as long as the world exists. Leave Gor at the door or don't come in! [View Quote] irene schaftJun 9, 2000, 11:45am
I too am having a great deal of difficulity understanding and accepting all the
recent fervor over "Gor". I have lost a couple close AW friends to this craze, and frankly it frightens me. Pokemon I can understand because it is the kids and seems quite harmless, they are easily led, and want acceptance from their peers but when adults act in the same manner I think "cult"! Last night I had a friend send me a newspaper clipping from Kansas about a woman here on AW who was found dead stuffed into a barrell in some warehouse. I was told from several others online that she frequented GOR worlds and met her killer there. I don't know this to be the truth. I'm just saying I wouldn't doubt it in the least if it were. I did not know her or her killer but it makes you start to really worry about how many more psychos are out there playing "master" on the many GOR worlds that seem to be cropping up. As far as my worlds are concerned I don't boot out GOR members but it does make me a bit uncomfortable when they play the slave/master roles. Some of them are SO serious about it and to me it is just silly but as I just said, sometimes deadly. Wings0nite P.S. OMG, I agreed with Eep on an issue :) [View Quote] > I understand their behavior when they are in the Gorean worlds, because I > read some of the books , they if I remember correctly (and please don't > scream if I get it wrong its been a few years and I have read thousands of > books since then) written by a one J Norman or Norman J, either way all this > is done because they either read the book (discontinued thank you very > much), or were told that just how you operate! > > And the only reason I know this was that my parents were both Gor nuts to > the point of naming me after the main character! I was just socializing at GZ (what else does one do in the middle of
builders block?), when the subject of Gor came up thru that poor (AW cit?) that got murdered and stuffed in a 55 gallon drum. And then someone mentioned that they know of at least 3 PKs that actively participate in Gor... Not saying we should discriminate, just dont let the PKs carry whips *L*. I was just visiting a Gor world and I lied about my age so I could stay and find out, from the people "practicing" Gor what it was
about. Once I told them that I wasn't actually over 18, they threatened: [Parp]: I will have you put in for a complaint of harassment as soon as I arrive Agent1. .... Agent1: Parp, harassing who? [Parp]: you will be hearing from the Peacekeepers .... [Parp]: for lying [Parp]: for coming here .... [Parp]: and I have your citnumber, so don't try and hide ---------- I doubt that what I did could be considered harassment. I think that once my chat log has been shown to a PK (if one even asks me about it), everything will be cleared up. -Agent1 =?iso-8859-1?q?eep=b2?=Jun 10, 2000, 8:04pm
Can either of you (Wing and Irene) provide more info (what news, Wing? which newspaper, Irene? etc) as to where you heard/read about this? I would like to see if it's actually true. If so, AWCI might want to take a bit more of a stance against such worlds and enforcement of the world rating (including a way for kids to not simply change the rating!). :/

Well it was certainly bound to happen. but upon reading the article, if this man has
done this, he may have been killing long bfore the internet. Its little surpass that predators of killing nature have found their way to the weak on the Net. Despite all the slag being slung at the Gor Worlds, i don't think this monster can be accountable for all their acts. The Gorean "way" might have just been the tool he needed to pray upon weaker or nieve women. AW allows ppl and the net at that, allows ppl to be whatever they want. In fact a recent poll came up with that a good % of men liked to roll play as women. we must all be wary, not paranoid, but watchful of who we meet, who we get to know. Roll playing without knowing our "master" might be more dangerous than we know. Play safe everyone Z! I was at a public meeting in Gor the other night, and the murdered girl (Suzette Trouten) went by the name of faithh in AW. Several knew her in RL. Here is an excerpt from the chat, but Xav put the whole thing at : http://members.aol.com/xavworld/index.htm/gortext.htm "JJ": How do you know for sure that faithh is one of the murder victims? Did you know her R/L name? Seanchan: As I understand it, her name was in the Kansas City Star "JJ": yes, her name was in the paper, but how do you know it was faithh? AWCOM credit card records? sarishia L0: so where would we begin protecting ourselves in this instance? also as for faithh...she was on the local news here with her pic that was when sari told Master Ra Al and he confirmed it was her pic and the next day her name was released... Ra Al is one of the 'masters' of Gor and was faithh's online master. Weird stuff. ---- I just hope those Gor freaks clean up their act. I think AWCI should ban them from AW anyway. Sorry Eep, meant to post this here not send directly to you.
Hours of searching turned up the following links. Active Worlds is never mention directly. The articles only refer to the alleged serial killer, John Edward Robinson Sr, as having met women online then meeting them in real life for sadomasochistic sex, that he frequented online chat rooms, that his online name was Slavemaster and that he sometimes went by a alias of James Turner. The following link has several other links to stories written in the Kansas City Star about Robinson and the current case against him. I think I've put the most important information here in this post but if you want to see for yourself follow the links. I warn you that it's a horrifying, unsettling, and disgusting read. But it is a wake up call to be extremely careful who you trust and how much information you give out to people online. crey : ( Follow the links on this page for the whole story. http://www.kcstar.com/standing/robinson/case.html [View Quote] agent1Jun 11, 2000, 10:15pm

Gor is far more prevelant on IRC than AW.
As I said before on this issue, Gorean roleplay and/or lifestyle is fine for adults provided they know how and when to click the little black "x" in the top right corner. I, like most, grieve and are shocked about the death of faithh - but Gor did not kill her. An insane murderer killed her. For many the Gorean way is their only escape to balance out their unbalanced lives. Corporate directors in the real world can come be a virtual slave to relieve their stress. Those with no position or no control in real life can go to a Gor world and become a Master or Mistress. Personally I have found that the Gorean community to be the most closely knit and friendly of all of the AW communities. If nothing else, it is an interesting adventure into human behaviour. I am not involved in their community because I prefer to do other things, and also do not agree with some things about it. My greatest disagreement is that those wishing to be "slaves" cannot "unslave" themselves without their Master's permission, and there is no enforcable appeal system. When going to meet a person in real life that they met on the net, you should take the minimal precaution of telling someone about it, and suggest the other do the same. Better still, just don't meet. Eep, to run an arguement of banning Gorean worlds because of one user's death would be similar to running an arguement of banning "shoot 'em" games because of school room shootings. Regarding the X rating worlds, I don't see a need for change. Adults should monitor their children on the internet, especially so with any chat programs. Adults monitor users coming into Gorean worlds and take action when underage users come in (sometimes they do this badly but that is a policy matter for them to control). I don't particularly like shooting games (especially mindless ones like Quake, Unreal, Kingpin, Soldier of Fortune, etc, etc, etc) that have WAY too much blood and gore. I think such games should be toned down and the game rating STRICTLY enforced by stores. > Regarding the X rating worlds, I don't see a need for change. Adults can't monitor their children 24/7. A password-protected world rating setting and world rating enforcement by AWCI of Gor and other adult worlds has already been suggested by me to Lucrezia. If Goreans want to play adult fantasies they should get their own universe or something for it--perhaps even a galaxy server. I don't like seeing the amount of Gor worlds grow to equal and surpass that of Pokemon worlds (not that I like them much either, but at least they're the result of good marketing rather than the sexual frustration I would bet most Goreans suffer from). The common theme here is rating enforcement. Game/world ratings are there for a purpose; it's like all the US gun laws that aren't enforced. -- http://tnlc.com/eep/ - Active Worlds, Tomb Raider, 3D game comparison, The Sims Enable line/word wrap if text not wrapping. I can say GOR is not for me. and as you say, "For many the Gorean way is their
only escape to balance out their unbalanced lives. Corporate directors in the real world can come be a virtual slave to relieve their stress" This is the the part that , Some, and not All, but some take advantage of people. I dont know if this is the "balance" some ppl need in their lives. Or the correct therapy for it. As for "slaves" not being able to unslave themselves. In VR, this is reminicent of being in the Hells Angels or MOB and not being able to leave. I assume this means that if I wanted to leave GOR... I need permission... If I am not granted said permission what happens? I dont know, if ppl dont have "balance" they should seek counsel, not Submission. VR is proving itself in allot of areas, not just GOR as a place to be taken advantage of. I have already known of two "friends" who have faked deaths. and i know this is NOT fake. But we need to be Aware. Z!
