Racists in AW ? (General Discussion)
Racists in AW ? // General Discussionglitter kittyJul 7, 2002, 10:06am
actually its not strictly sexist ... its discriminatory until proven that
the discrimination is not positive. Sexist is a negative discrimination based on sex. The separation of male from female may serve a function ... for example a womens self help group for recovery from rape, domestic violence or assault, for example, may prohibit the entry of men because their presence may inhibit the counselling of the victims ... I don't think anyone would deny women the right to "sisterhood" under such circumstances. I have been a part of a women's cancer support group and I've also seen men's cancer support groups ... would anyone say that these groups have no right to seperate existance??? Likewise what if some women wanted to discuss issues of a female nature and accept other females from the public then how would they do this if they made it invitation only? Where exactly is the front door so to speak? The world list? A webpage? A newspaper ad? where exactly? There are still hundreds of men only clubs in the world ... and while they seem to be declining, their right to exist should still be recognised if we wish to uphold the belief that people have the right to chose with whom they wish to associate Glitter [View Quote] nornny11Jul 7, 2002, 12:52pm
You really should quit before you start sounding more ignorant than you
already have said. I mean, these people give you a luxury most people die to have, and you're calling them dumb, broke, and totally devoid of doing calculus, basically. I did my research on truck drivers, garbage people, and they're just as good as blue-collar profession as any other. These people, unlike you Dion, are not obsessed with money, and that's perfectly legal. Some have families they want to go home to early, some like to travel, they're perfectly educated. Many have even gone to college, almost all of them graduated high school or have GEDs. So basically, they're just as smart as you are, and yet, they're getting paid and you aren't. Sounds smart to me. If you ever drove too, you know driving is a tougher job than it looks. I can barely drive a car without running into a telephone pole every day, who knows how truckers do it with their enormous load and horrible blind spots. And trust me, government jobs are not the most frugal in the world. lol. They get paid well for what they do, even if you consider it very little. I couldn't see why more moms, especially, wouldn't want a job like that to care for their kids. While they're sleeping, she does the trash (most moms do anyways), and she's home the rest of the day to take care of them. Waste manage could be garbage truck driver (but it's also a few other
things), just like inventory associate is a shelf stocker. They like fancy titles I guess =P [View Quote] goober kingJul 8, 2002, 12:03am
Whoa.
Did I just miss something, or did Nornny actually STAND UP FOR SOMETHING?! Let me check that again... No reneging... no counters... no smileys... Good Lord... Was their default av female? *grins*
It's true, reverse discrimination is not pretty. But think of it as a club and it is easier to swallow. It really isn't the first world with limits set, usually they are based on age and whether you are open minded or not. As a community we can choose to ignore them, or we can set up a petition to dis-allow them....but isn't that a form of discrimination itself? [View Quote] count draculaJul 8, 2002, 1:50pm
Hmm I forgot to check that out, maybe I have to go again LOL
Yes they can keep their club, I do not care. It is just the common attitude that if a man says something "bad" about a woman or a women is not "approved" for something, the hell breakes out. All kind of ombudsmen and feminist attack you and make sure you feel you are the most guilty person on earth. Then again it seems to be ok if the "discrimination" is towards men; the attitude is like well try to live with it, no big deal. In our TV we had 2 commercials, one was a paint commercial, where a "biglunged" women dressed in a top was presenting paint, the other was a furniture commercial where furnitures was presented by the former Miss Finland in a bikini. Both commercials were forbidden because they was considred sexcist or degrading of women. Both the women acting in these commercial was there volentary and got paid for it ans were upset about the decission to ban their commercials. At the same time in another paint commercial one top athletic (male) was presenting the paint topless and the camera zoomed in on his butt. Nobody has considered this sexcistic. So I cannot help wondering why sexy women on TV are "bad" but sexy males are totally ok. I might just for the fun of it, not that I stand for it, found a male world where women are not allowed, just to see how long it is allowed to excist ;-) Drac sheridan <motleymouse at worldnet.att.net> kirjoitti viestissä:3d2991a4 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > Was their default av female? *grins* > > It's true, reverse discrimination is not pretty. Well, they DO have the right to do what they want with their worlds....but
that is a little ridiculous. All you can do is shrug and walk away :o( [View Quote] |
