*ponders*

What real rights to world owners and caretakers have? The right to protect
their investment, that is certain. But at the expense of the privacy of
their visitors?

Although I am not naive enough to think there is privacy on the internet, AW
and the worlds do give the illusion of privacy. Groups of 2, 3 or more
gather and discuss topics of all sorts - some private, some silly. However,
there are those out there that are unaware of all that goes on behind the
world and it's bots. They don't see the Administrative log that shows who
someone is whispering to (but not what). They don't see a bot log "open
chat". They are happily unaware that no matter where in a world they are, a
worldowner or caretaker can see what they say (open chat) and all they are
building. The latter is harmless, but I think the former is a sad
situation.

Will AW take away the "see-all" feature in Bots? I think not, It has it's
uses. But as a paying member, I would expect one right and curtesy - The
bots should announce that they are present and monitoring the world.

A comment on Privacy...
Real-time chat falls under the same privacy laws and guidlines as email.
For email a sysop may not read, copy or display the contents unless
malicious intent is suspected.

Why touchy? Ever hear of McCarthyism? It's running rampant again in the
US. But that's not the issue. I just like to know when a bot is present so
I can keep my chat in the correct context. If you noticed, ppl misconstrue
a simple sentence and next thing you know you have your chat log on display
in some newsgroup somewhere with a bunch of ppl judging you.

Live chat does fall under the same guidelines as email in the USA.

I personally resent the fact (I hope that isn't too strong an emotion) that
you can no longer tell if a bot is present. I thought the simple solution
would be to have a bot announce it's presence. I cannot imagine any reason
a CT would want to hide the fact that a bot is present. In anycase, AW
could manage the anouncement thru the same methods as a bot announces that a
new cit has registered.

Whenever a new world is entered 98% of the time the default avatar is male.
Normally this wouldn't bother me, however for years now I have scramble
frantically, sometimes straining to resize my windows, struggling to get
into a skirt. I say ENOUGH! Women of AW unite! Let the men - those
persons that spout they are the stronger gender - struggle from now on!

It's no wonder you find women posing as men in VR. It isn't protection
against lecherous men as I previously thought, it is because they were
thrown into male avatars so many times, they began to believe thats what
they were!!!

World owners, I urge you to change your default avatars to female!! *points
vigorously at the male audience* Let the men feel what it is to be laughed
at for unknowingly walking around in a skirt!!! *bangs fist on desk* Let
the men show they have the strength and patience to resize windows to reach
the front of those horribly oversized lists full of restricted avatars!!!
Let the men wear those breasts they are always oggling at! oops...did I
say breasts? Sorry to those that are offended by seeing breasts in NGs. *g*

Well....it is just a thought. :)

It's true, reverse discrimination is not pretty. But think of it as a club
and it is easier to swallow. It really isn't the first world with limits
set, usually they are based on age and whether you are open minded or not.
As a community we can choose to ignore them, or we can set up a petition to
dis-allow them....but isn't that a form of discrimination itself?

The number of objects is mind boggling these days. What to keep, what to
toss *yanks hair*

As far as landscapes go, I've seen folks make their world an entire mountain
range to give the impression there is more land. I've also seen worlds
built on tiers, so the land is staggered (breaks up the flow, tho).

Now see? The original question had already been answered. Had you let it
die and privately emailed the original posting soul we wouldn't have this
thread still going. *smiles politely*

I agree it is nice to keep to the topic. But please let us newbies learn
without being afraid to post. I have been watching this newsgroup for a
class assignment. But was afraid to post for the longest time because I
couldn't figure what ppl were being reprimanded for. for instance,
cross-posting was a mystery to me until some wonderful soul explained what
it was and how to prevent it.
