sit seq

Mar 8, 2006, 3:10am
From my experience, the problem with a sit sequence is that unless every
avatar has similar dimensions, they won't all sit at the same level if you
want them to actually sit on an object. Same reason why a clap sequence
won't work the same on each av (differences in shoulder distance, arm
length..).

So, if you want avs to sit correctly, have them with similar
dimensions(more specifically, the same height up to the bottom knee area),
and each 'seat' should be at the same height, matching the height where the
avatar would finally sit.

The avatars in Stagecoach Island (4.1) do sit, but they are all variations
of the same two models, 1 male and 1 female. Also in that case they are kind
of snapped into sitting place, with no sitting down motion.

That all being said, I've attached a sitting seq. I made for you or anyone
else to try out. It worked on two megapath and two Alphaworld avs I tested
it on. Let me know if any problems.

BTW, why is this in the bots newsgroup?

sit seq

Mar 9, 2006, 2:15am
Did you try Stagecoach Island? There, you just click on the chair, and you
are sitting. Although, no movement, stuck with one view and can't even look
around. I don't know if maybe that's adjustable in mover properties. Click
the chair again and you are standing.

An object bump= sit command would be more natural, then a seq. to stand, or
just move forward to stand up again.

Don't worry, this whole thread is in the wrong place to begin with.

Transparent Chat Screen

May 21, 2006, 5:08am
I wish for AW to have a transparent chat screen, so we don't have the chat
window constantly blocking the 3d image behind it.

Yes, we can already resize it, and in 4.1 it can be x'ed out or minimized,
but that is not useful except on rare occasions (screen capture). The chat
window is essential for immediate communication.

A half-transparent shadowy background window would be nice, or a completely
transparent background, with white type.

They could also include an option for user specific choices of background
and font color.

Add complete sequence list to Movers

Jun 13, 2006, 2:31am
Exactly as stated in the subject heading. Why is there only one sequence
file allowed in movers, that constantly loops, even if you are standing
still? Mostly only good for completely still seqs. It would give us more
variety for things we can do with movers than just sit or stand in position.

Example as things are now- Car mover creates uses drive.seq to make an av
simulate turning the steering wheel. When you stop, he's still turning the
steering wheel like a maniac driver!

With a full seq listing added, as in avatars.dat, you could have the av
stop waving his arms or legs around when movement is stopped.

I could just request adding a checkbox to add a second seq when not
moving.. but adding a complete seq list that overrides default ones
would be an even better improvement.

Add complete sequence list to Movers

Oops, gotta remember to reply to group, not sender...

Anyways, As far as I can see, can only add one sequence. Can't have an idle
or wait/endwait sequence also.

mover seqs

Yes, would also like to see this, but might require the mover to be a tagged
avatar, and maybe in the avatars folder... Unless we were able to set tag
names on each part within the world, through mover window dialogue. Anyway
yes,
would like to see this along with other mover improvements.

Realistic grass using 3ds max as the base..

That's really nice grass, mind if I try it in my world?

And yes, setting grass through terrain would be great, Would also like to
multiply grass through particles, without it fading in and out.

Object Path Host Search

Feb 25, 2006, 5:22am
Hello,

I am a world owner and co-owner of 2 worlds currently in AW. Until recently
we were using MyActiveworlds.com for the object path host. It really was a
great obpath host and we would like to see it back, but it seems it's gone
permanently now, unless anyone can inform me otherwise.

Anyway, we may be searching for new obpath hosts, but we are not up to date
on who all the hosts are nowadays, and which are the good ones (meaning: a
proven track record to be reliable, dependable, secure and will be around
for some time to come).

We're looking for pretty much the same setup and features as
myactiveworlds: A fair price, FTP access and management, (no upload and
download limit), around 200mb of space, no bandwith limit, and preferably a
multipath to AW megapath and some other objects just to have available so we
don't have to fill up the path with unnecessary things. Also, a 2 for 1 deal
would be great, since the 2nd world is basically a private test world for
the 1st.

Any links and suggestions from other world owners would be appreciated.

Object Path Host Search

Hi again,

Thanks to all that gave suggestions and offers. A decision hasn't been made
yet, but I'm thinking it's better to go with an AW tailored host, since I'm
worried regular ones may not like the method the server is being used, or be
as available to respond to customers. Also, it's a good way to take care of
our own, and support the AW community whenever possible.

BTW, what is the recommended bandwith for object paths or websites for that
matter?

Object Path Host Search

Hi,

I guess I should have concluded this thread earlier, but better late than
never. I'd like to thank everyone for all their suggestions and offers. We
chose a host that suited our needs, and we have been happy with them. For
anyone else who might be searching, I found two useful resources :

http://awnews.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=576
&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0

and http://www.awportals.com/?pid=business_list under the "Services" link
specifically.

Also, feel free to use this thread to post other hosting services.

Thanks,
Wolvie

thought they would be helpful to others though.

"Undocumented" 4.1 Features

Jun 9, 2006, 8:09pm
I always wanted a bump/activate seq command to apply to objects, but I don't
see how "create seq" would be used except in a zone. Are they planning to
add/fix this sometime soon?

Naming The Granddaughter

Hi AlphaBit,

Would she also be opposed to IttyBit Phalpha? If she doesn't go for that
either I have another suggestion...

BiteMe Phalpha

Just my two cents,

Please allow V4 object rights in AW public building worlds

Jun 22, 2006, 4:03am
To whom it may concern,

After spending some time learning the new 4.1 features in my own world(s),
I decided to go try some movers in AlphaWorld, and to my surprise, the
Building Inspector came at me with a "Sorry, you are not allowed to build
with 'z' objects in this world." I looked up the world rights, and the new
V4 objects are not allowed at all! Not only that, it's the same in all the
other AW owned building worlds I checked, except for Atlantis.

Why, oh why, in the first world where most new citizens learn to build and
get their first territory, in the still most populated world on average, are
the new features being denied to builders?

Unless there is a reason we are not aware of, please AW, allow the citizens
to bring this world up to date and prevent it from being an archaic
wasteland which it is becoming. It is the place that first drew most of us
to become citizens in the first place as tourists.

There are some amazing builders in AW that would love to beautify it, and
make it become the draw and center of the community it once was. Imagine
what places like SWCity and OffWorld could do with such features.

Not to mention the other AW public building worlds which would greatly
benefit from the new features also, such as CofMeta for instance. Imagine it
really becoming a metatropolis and fulfilling its' promise, instead of the
future ghost town it now is.

Help us to help you AW, to reinvigorate and repopulate these worlds, and
bring in new interest, new life and new memberships.

Signed,

Wolvie (citizen 321493)

Please allow V4 object rights in AW public building worlds

Jun 23, 2006, 1:56am
Because AWTeen might not be everyones' cup of tea. I just thought it might
be in AWs' own best interest to allow V4 rights in their own flagship worlds
if it's all set. But if not or if they just don't want to, then so be it.
Everyone just go build in AWTeen or Atlantis or wherever else they can find,
if they don't have their own world.

From what I remember reading in an Ask AW article, it might be their plan
to never allow it, and open new building worlds with those features.

Save Christine

Jun 23, 2006, 6:23am
And now for something real,

I was in AW with the TV on in the background, and my attention was
immediately taken away from my monitor when I heard someone on ABC Nightline
news say they are filipino and it's hard to find a donor. This is her,
www.savechristine.com . She needs a bone marrow transplant match and so took
it
upon herself and formed her own organization to find one. She hasn't, but
has found matches for 3 other people so far.

At the time of the broadcast, her time was running out, and the doctors had
to admit her for transplant even if it wasn't a match. A man from Hong Kong,
a mismatch. It could be her last hope or it could kill her. Her surgery is
due next week.

I spent the better part of the late night going through her website. I read
her poems and writings, the FAQ and forum, wondering should I? Then I
watched the video, and I couldn't not say no. I am part filipino myself and
to deny helping her would be to deny myself.

I sent out for my test package and I urge you all, especially if you are of
ethnic/minority background, to at least look through the site... read her
own words, watch the video, see if you are a match to save a life. You could
be the only match in the whole world for one person.

Spread the word about the site to your community, and friends, and contacts.

MY Award

Jul 7, 2006, 3:47am
I agree with sweets point totally. The Cy's should allow all worlds and
just post a disclaimer. Have separate categories also for each rating ( Best
G world to best X world).

But I also think that if you can't beat them, join them...
- Join the Cy's themselves, and change it from within. It will not likely
happen overnight, change takes time.

...or start your own group
-Collaborate with some people. Maybe even the Cy organizers to get some
guidance on starting a separate awards, if they would be willing to.I always
thought just having one awards was a monopoly, and wished to see
alternatives, even pondering starting my own awards once, since in the past
I did not always agree with the system that is The Cy's.

All the infighting between groups is only wasting needless energy, and
clouding people's judgement so they are not even giving relevance to the
other sides point of view.

Now go sign a peace treaty and play nice.
