Object Path Host Search (Community)
Object Path Host Search // Community
Feb 25, 2006, 5:22am
Hello,
I am a world owner and co-owner of 2 worlds currently in AW. Until recently
we were using MyActiveworlds.com for the object path host. It really was a
great obpath host and we would like to see it back, but it seems it's gone
permanently now, unless anyone can inform me otherwise.
Anyway, we may be searching for new obpath hosts, but we are not up to date
on who all the hosts are nowadays, and which are the good ones (meaning: a
proven track record to be reliable, dependable, secure and will be around
for some time to come).
We're looking for pretty much the same setup and features as
myactiveworlds: A fair price, FTP access and management, (no upload and
download limit), around 200mb of space, no bandwith limit, and preferably a
multipath to AW megapath and some other objects just to have available so we
don't have to fill up the path with unnecessary things. Also, a 2 for 1 deal
would be great, since the 2nd world is basically a private test world for
the 1st.
Any links and suggestions from other world owners would be appreciated.

AWLife hosting is a good one, offers about 5GBs for $4.95 a month.. the
bandwidth limit is 250GB, which is still pretty good for that price.
Information is at www.awlife.net or www.awlifehost.net

Wolvie,
I'd be happy to offer you object path and/or world hosting.
I've been hosting worlds since the beginning of 2000. I currently host
Broadway and several other worlds, including their object paths and
other independent object paths. In the past, I've hosted BluPearl.
Before MrBruce decided to leave AW, I hosted A!!CT for a time.
You'll have full FTP access with no upload/download throttle. There's
also no bandwidth/transfer limit. The server is located is a fully
managed data center, so uptime and connectivity wont' be a problem. With
the object path, you'll just be getting basic web space. You can store
whatever you like on the server, web pages, objects, whatever. You can
setup any multi-path or other PHP/PERL scripts you'd like. I provide all
the support you could ever need, so you can always shoot me an e-mail or
t-gram if you're having any issues.
I have my prices listed online at www.jtechwebsystems.com/prices.shtml .
However, I'm willing to work with you on finding an agreeable price.
I'll even offer you the two for one deal if you're interested in hosting
with me.
If you have any questions, please let me know. If you're interested, we
can meet online in AW to discuss in person.
Looking forward to doing business with you!
Regards,
Jeremy

Hi again,
Thanks to all that gave suggestions and offers. A decision hasn't been made
yet, but I'm thinking it's better to go with an AW tailored host, since I'm
worried regular ones may not like the method the server is being used, or be
as available to respond to customers. Also, it's a good way to take care of
our own, and support the AW community whenever possible.
BTW, what is the recommended bandwith for object paths or websites for that
matter?

Hi,
I guess I should have concluded this thread earlier, but better late than
never. I'd like to thank everyone for all their suggestions and offers. We
chose a host that suited our needs, and we have been happy with them. For
anyone else who might be searching, I found two useful resources :
http://awnews.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=576
&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
and http://www.awportals.com/?pid=business_list under the "Services" link
specifically.
Also, feel free to use this thread to post other hosting services.
Thanks,
Wolvie

Glad it helped,
Due to a restructure the full service list is now available at:
http://www.awportals.com/services/

- Mark Randall

"We're Systems and Networks..."
"It's our job to know..."

They would have been helpful, but I actually found both sites afterwards. I
thought they would be helpful to others though.
At least you get a free plug. (outlet sold separately)
