But as I said earlier:

I just had someone send me a gram and still no sound. And I do have the
sounds enabled.

No telegram sounds

Apr 17, 2003, 4:33am
Hi Tengel!

Now I think we're starting to get somewhere. No, nothing has been muted.
BUT, I found that the Midi control in the Soundblaster control panel is
GREYED OUT!!!

Now, things are starting to click inside my head. I recently went through
some midi files on my computer and let *.mid be associated with the Windows
Player. Is that the trouble? Should it have been associated with
Creative's Midi player instead? Or what?

Thanks to you and everybody else helping me with this little frustration of
mine! :))

I have an AWE 64 by Creative for sound board. I'm pretty certain it
supports full duplex. How would I find out if another program is using it?
I can hear any other wav files -- just not the "default" files.

Thanks,
Barbara

GK Apps

Apr 21, 2003, 7:49pm
Bowen--

Understandably you're correct about SOME of the people who want to be a GK
or a PK--they want to go on a power trip!

However, I resent the insinuation that ALL GK's or PK's are there just for
the power. If I wanted to go on a power trip, I could very easily do so in
my own world. I AM one of those who became a GK to actually help my fellow
members and tourists. I do not make ejections at the AWGate or in my own
world easily or often.

What Citizens Want

May 1, 2003, 12:53pm
Even though I just this last week renewed the tourist fee for my world,
Amberlin, I do agree that tourists should be allowed in any of the public AW
worlds and any of the private ones which desire to have them come
in --building or not. I paid the fee so that friends from other areas of
cyberspace could come in and see what I'm doing. Although I have kept
building privileges strictly to myself, I do welcome the tourists and others
who hop in from time to time. In fact, I even have several tourists I
number as regular visitors to Amberlin.

I'm not one of the older members who have been here for years, but I already
realize the fact that we do need "new blood" to keep AW alive. And I do
want it to keep thriving and growing. I would like to see the tourist fee
dropped. I also like the idea of allowing tourists a certain length of time
with some or restricted privileges to let them get a taste of what's
involved before they would have to register.

After all, hopefully, when it comes right down to the bottom line, don't we
all want the same thing -- a successful, thriving, and growing Active Worlds
Community???

Someone REALLY lost the plot

May 3, 2003, 7:15am
Someone really did lose the plot here!

I agree that the message needed to be changed, but I'm still a bit confused.
Please note the following excerpt:

**************
[View Quote] "To begin your free Active Worlds trial, please fill out all the fields in
this window and press OK. At the end of your one week free trial, and
every month after that, your credit card will automatically be charged
$6.95
until you cancel your subscription. To avoid being charged you MUST
cancel your
subscription at www.activeworlds.com before the one week trial period is
over."
***************

I thought a tourist may remain a "tourist" for as long as he/she wishes
(with restricted privileges, of course). According to what this says,
he/she has only a ONE WEEK trial period starting with 3.4! If one wants to
continue to be a tourist, he has to cancel subscription and probably will
have to re-install the program all over again!

I find this to be confusing and also even discouraging membership! I have
several people coming into Amberlin as Tourists and I consider as regulars.
For one reason or another, they are unable to become a citizen. For me,
they are as valid a member of AW Community as "Citizens" are. Hopefully,
one day, they may be able to become a cit, but until then they are as much a
contributing member of the AW community as some other citizens are. I've
already seen such indications in Amberlin that tourists can be invaluable
members of Amberlin's community and will be treated as such.

One Week Trial Period????

I've just renewed my Tourist Fee and have finally begun to have friends from
other chat programs start to come in and explore. Now this? One Week Trial
Period! Whoever came up with that idea??

I'm finally starting to see a bridge being started at last between
ActiveWorlds and other universes (chat programs), such as Manor and Palace
(both 2D). We're starting to find that they can and hopefully will
compliment one another. I really do want to encourage this communication
between these different chat universes (programs). I've been in both, and
have invested a great deal of time in these programs. I think they both
have their pros and cons; both have something worthwhile to offer.

Someone REALLY lost the plot

May 3, 2003, 11:35am
Thanks Mauz!

Ok, I guess I can rest easy then on the Tourist thing. As I said I was a
bit confused and mabye a bit sleep-deprived.

However, I would still like to see some sort of "bridge" between AW, The
Palace, Manor, and maybe some other universes. I do believe that we're all
basically one community in Cyberspace. Each universe (chat program) has
something to offer.

Fake Immigration Officer Message???

Jul 14, 2003, 10:20pm
Pardon me for the cross-posting, but I think this might warrant it.

Earlier this afternoon a friend and I were just having a chat in
Amberlin--having been back for at least five or ten minutes. All of a
sudden we both received messages that looked as though were from the
Immigration Officer --in the same green font.

First was mentioned something to do with "9 9 9" and "cat" and some
objects, then gave a URL. Then came the warning about being careful about
not clicking on URL's that weren't trusted, etc. etc.

Well, after a minute, I stupidly clicked on the URL. After all, here's the
IO giving out info but not in the usual way. Anyway, I clicked, and was
immediately thrown out of AW!!! I signed back on, and noticed my cache was
loading all over again. I should have asked my friend for a copy of that
URL line from his log, but I didn't think of it. After we both signed off,
I checked the log and discovered that those lines had been deleted, possibly
even with a line or two before and/or after!!

I ran Norton's immediately--it didn't find any thing. And that
"announcement" from the I.O. has yet to reappear. Anyone know anything
about this??

DOGHOUSE~!

Dec 20, 2003, 2:36am
Alright, I don't know the whole story. I just found out the other day Seiya
Fae is not a 16 or18 year old girl, but a 24 year old man. (Not that much
of a difference in age, after all.) Ok, I don't like to be fooled any more
than the next person.

But, I've been enjoying and have been impressed by her/his builds right from
the beginning and still am!

I've just taken a look at his/her "Doghouse". There is so much there and
all very interesting and innovative as his/her builds have been. I plan on
going back very soon and do some more exploring!

Seiya, or whatever your name is (please give us your true nick, etc.), I do
hope you will continue building. Maybe if you come clean and STAY clean
with the AW Community, and with your talents, this tempest in a teacup will
soon blow over.

Peoples--If you enjoyed his/her Starbuilds in the past, you will most
certainly enjoy them now. Come on, forgive and forget!!

Good luck and Happy Holidays to all!

Congratulations, Seiya, for deciding to stick to one name and be proud of
it! I hope to see many more Starbuilds by Seiya in the future!

Pineapple: A Symbol of Hospitality!!

Mar 17, 2004, 8:55am
Does anyone know of any models of a pineapple to be used in AW? The
pineapple, an ancient symbol of hospitality and welcome, could be used on
top of a railing, bannister, a bedpost, or just about anywhere one would
like to display the sign of "Welcome"! I would like to be able to resize it
and texturize it in a variety of textures from wood to stone.

Thanks in advance!

Apr 1, 2004, 5:31am
Well, recently, since I've started slicing images for bday builds, I've
started uploading the slices to amberlin/textures/bday.
Now all the birthday images (as of a certain date) are all together and seem
to load as fast as any other. I've seen others do similar arrangements. I
think as along as you keep your images in a subfolder under Textures, it
should be ok.

Heinrikg's Texture Tutorials????

Apr 2, 2004, 8:12pm
Does anybody have a copy of either Heinrikg's or Grover's tutorials on RWX
and Texutres saved to disk?? Since neither are any longer in AW, the
tutorials are no longer at the original websites. I do hope someone did
save a copy--they were certainly excellent tutorials.

Thanks in advance,

Heinrikg's Texture Tutorials????

Wow! I was able to locate and save both Heinrikg's and Grover's Tutorilas
in htm format!!! If anybody needs the original URL for either to plug into
www.archive.org let me know! (Or is there any way legitimately that
somebody could put them up on a new webpage somewhere for all to access??

Try some of the other tutorials from Objects D'AW tutorial list or any other
lists of resources. Who knows what you may find! Just plug in the original
URL into "Go Back" field on the Internet Archive website (see above.)

To actually save the entire website, go to the main page and (in Internet
Explorer)--"Save As" and let it "Save As Webpage". It will save the ENTIRE
website in HTML format!

Heinrikg's Texture Tutorials????

Apr 3, 2004, 8:52pm
Yes, I found some images missing too. But at least we now have the "meat"
of the tutorial and, if necessary, we can probably make do with what images
we have or don't have.

Otherwise I didn't have any troulbe saving the websites, except Grovers
seemed to take much longer--perhaps more content, etc.

I looked through some of the FAQ's on the Archive page--seems that sometimes
the robot goes out, but doesn't seem to see all that is there.

Cyawards' Teleports???

Apr 15, 2004, 9:37am
Will there be a special teleport area that will take us to the various
nominated sites such as the area we had last time?

Thanks,
Lady Barbara

Cyawards' Teleports???

Apr 15, 2004, 8:58pm
Well, then, could you make the addresses on the Cyawards Nomination Page
clickable? It really is quite a bother to copy down some of those
addresses. I don't think you can even copy and paste them! If we could
only click on a nominee on the www page and be transported to that site, it
would make things so much easier and encourage so many others to vote. As
it is now, after a few explorations, one gets discouraged.

Thanks again,
Lady Barbara

P.S. I've noticed that the teleport builds for last time (actually 2 or 3
versions!!) are still standing. Couldn't one of those be adapted to this
year's list? The layout, walls, even signs are still there. I would be
glad to HELP changing those signs to the current nominees' addressses and
make them teleportable--if possible.
