I'm sorry, Bit! I didn't stop to think about all that it would entail at
this late date making such a change! You have done marvelously and brought
back the Cyawards just when it was needed the most.

Perhaps next year we could do something else as you suggested. But,
meanwhile, let's all get out there and see some of those wondrous nominees,
then. . . vote, Vote, VOTE!!!!!!!

Good going, LNH! Congrats on your first objects! Starheart is a great
teacher--I've only just started classes with him also thru the AWUniversity!
Watch out--I will be starting to make my own objects in the very near
future!

Isn't it super that there are now classes and teachers available out there
that can teach us "new" modelers? I think this infusion of new blood in the
creation of objects and avatars for the AW universe is outstanding and can
only produce much more diversity, and talent!!! Even inspiration to those
who have been producing those great objects and avatars all along! I think
we may just be seeing the beginning of a renaissance of creation in Active
Worlds!!!

Thanks again to Starheart, Swe, and all the other volunteer instructors in
AWuniv! Yes, they are all volunteers and giving freely of their own time,
effort, and patience!

(BTW, I'm typing this email on my brand new computer--not everything has
been set up or transferred as yet, but it's coming! And will wonders ever
cease! I can now hear the "working sounds" including the "Telegram
Sound"!!!!)

I'm in the process of moving everything over from my old PCIII to my new
Dell 8300 PC4(XP). I had been running ZoneAlarm on the old one, and was
contemplating changing to the firewall provided by XP on the new machine.
Anybody have any opinions on the XP Firewall? Am seriously thinking of
going back to Zone Alarm. (ZA seemed to run quite well on the old PC,btw.)

But, now, you say to use another machine as firewall. How would I set up my
old PCIII as one? It would even have a 6gig HD!! Also runs Win98SE at
600mhz. Would I need just the CPU or the whole system?? (I really don't
have the space for a 2nd PC tho--it really has become quite crowded at my
desk of late!)

Then, I take it, using an extra PC as a firewall would really only be good
if it ran Linux! My old one is a Win98se. And I do have crampt quarters
here--maybe using something like ZoneAlarm wouldn't be bad then, after all!

Thanks ananas! I took a looksee at your suggested Linux setup! Since I
know hardly anything about that stuff, I think for now I'll take the easy
way out and go back to Zone Alarm---maybe even get Zone Alarm Pro even!
Sometimes I would like to know where those odds and ends are coming from!

Ok, no XP firewall. Will get Zone Alarm Pro. But I"m having another
program--sorta related:

Aylla just tried to send me a couple of her gorgeous avatars by email. (I
use Outlook Express.) They were not allowed to come through. However she
did send a test email without attatchments wich did come through.

What sort of settings should I have in XP and/or ZoneAlarm which would allow
me have files sent to me??? (I do have Norton's Anti-Virus set up now.)

We have new Terrain in Amberlin!!! Yesterday, after two years of trying to
come up with a terrain I liked, I finally decided that Lady Murasaki's
terrain can't be beat!! So now we have Susan's Terrainkit1 online and it's
gorgeous!!

IMPORTANT:
Before coming back into Amberlin, please be certain to delete ALL terrain
files from Amberlin's Textures Folder in your cache (if not the entire
cache!)

It was suggested that just deleting the Terrains would be ok -- easier and
faster! Well that worked for me at first. Then all of a sudden the terrain
became a very dark green -- almost black! (I remember reading recently in a
NG about a similar problem, but couldn't locate that email.) After trying
everything else, as a last resort, I deleted my ENTIRE cache for Amberlin.
(Including both Art and Property) Voila! That lovely Emerald Green terrain
finally appeared once again!!

Is the above a bug in AW 3.5???

Well, confidentially, I'm way beyond my teens--even beyond my 40's in fact!
Actually the reason why I chose "Lady Barbara" was because another woman
already had "Barbara". I didn't want to go by Barbara1 or Barbara2 or even
Barbarae, etc. Since we aren't allowed to use various and sundry characters
in a name such as *or # or !, etc. (except for the period), I chose "Lady
Barbara" for my screen name.

However, if one wants to call me just "Barb" or "Barbara" when speaking with
me, that's ok, too!

Just downloaded AW 3.6! They've made a horrendous mistake! There's no
"Join"!!!! We still have "Invite", but no "Join"!!!!!

Duh!! My mind just went south for a bit, that's all! Sorry, I was
mistaken. We do have both "Join" and "Invite" in 3.6! One just has to
click on name under Contacts (as usual) to Join.

I've been watching Starheart design his Arabian Nights build set the last
few weeks, and it is one of the most beautifully done, impressive sets I've
seen in AW!!!

In his relatively short time in modeling objects for AW, Starheart has
definitely become the rival of the top modeling artists in Active Worlds!!
Not only is he very talented, but at the drop of a pixel, he's always there
and ready to help another in whatever way he can. For instance, without
giving it a second thought, he even showed, --no--taught me-- how to
assemble one of the basic structures in his new set. (He's always ready to
give a lesson in RWX, Wings, or whatever you want to learn!)

An exceptional talent without a bit of egotism involved! Always willing to
share and/or teach the ins and outs of modeling.

I do encourage all to go see Starheart's Arabian 1001 Nights Buildset in
Merlin at 56.05N 12.28W 0.38a 276. It is positively amazing, and
mind-blowing what he has achieved! The Arabian Palace was inspired by one
photo in a book which required a good amount of extrapolation to complete
the entire set. The original photo can be seen at:

Amazing how he developed and built those pieces!!

Then have a look around at his various other builds there of all sorts.
Starheart has also developed his own techniques of designing pieces that
seem to be 3D but, a lot of which are actually 2D in textures. An amazing
talent we are most fortunate to have here in Active Worlds!

I just came from Fibbles! Tallian was too modest to announce the following
which I think is some of the greatest news in AW for quite some time:

Since PeacFrog had to let his cit and world expire, Fibbles has been down
since Spring. The big news is that Tallian (Chicago3D.net) and JP of AWI
have agreed to co-sponsor the world so that we may continue to enjoy Fibbles
now and in the future!!!!!!

Although I really didnt know Energiser very well, she was the first I
remember coming to my aid and teaching me the basics when I first came back
into AW in 2000 or 2001. She will be sorely missed. My condolences to her
family.

Just now (8:00am EST) tried to get into AW and found that all I could get
was Cy for Avatars. So I went and deleted AW's cache. Now all I get when I
enter AW is blue screen and black triangles. I then went into AWGate where
I do GK and found that beyond a certain radius (where I haven't been
recently) I was also seeing black triangles!

I also checked Teengate and was able to download fine there. In fact, it was
my very first time on that world. Have tried a couple of other worlds and
wound up having successful downloads.

Oh yes, at one point I did have that dratted error #17 I think. Oh yes, I'm
on DSL.
