locking up!

Oct 30, 2001, 4:50pm
no problem, it's all a matter of what your computer doesn't have that makes
the problem in AW. DirectX 8.0a has a lot of bugs in it, ie network IPX
delays, vid refreshing messes up a lot, etc. Hope it works better now

:) fox and I were talking, I can probably clear some of his stuff up.. read
below! :)

[View Quote] A planet planet? most likely there isn't one, it would've been detected by
hubble or another detection method.

Oh yeah there's a solar system that's about.. 40-50 light years away.. it
contains 2 mars/venus like planets as detected by their pull on the star's
light (which they can approximate their location in orbit after factering in
our atmosphere's bending of light). Using rockets? it'd take a good
millenium to get there.. maybe longer I'm not sure on the exact dates.

No doubt about this one happening. It's already planned on the Mars mission
in 2030-2050 :)

some progress to be made yet :P

gateways like wormholes.. theoretically it's possible. Wormholes are just
black holes that have a different singularity structure. Stargate like
gateways? that's a hard one.. it might be possible if you accelerate
particles faster then light.. a lot faster. Star Treks? yes over short
distances in the future it might.. Fox was kinda right but instead of a
photon it was an atom of hydrogen or helium (they created a duplicate with a
ray of Quantum energy but the original was destroyed.. and the new one
destablized shortly after).

Yeah it's all good. We might become involved with an alien species such as
the "greys" or maybe we'll encounter a hostile form like in Independence
Day. I would like to see the day we meet an alien species :)

I hope this helps you! :)

I don't think it was the dopplar effect, the gravity exibited on the star's
light is a different form.. there's a quantum energy involved that spikes as
the planet goes behind the stars view, and dissappears as it comes back
(leaving a small gap in the visible light being transmitted). No radar
picks it up (which means no dopplar) it's detected by some sort of satilite
in orbit.

Welllll it is AW's product, they ultimately have the say over what's
advertised. But if the other people invite others I'm sure they won't leave
to just go play bingo, at least most people show respect like that :).

Re: Why We War (was Re: Bin Laden's Special Song)

Nov 2, 2001, 9:06pm
Not to start a flame war but those "philosophies" are what make lives
generally better then what they are now. And without cultural change..
there is a great chance of a collapse like in Rome, Egypt, etc. People
travel to the US too. And we also do take great pride and respect in our
culture and traditions, we're just different from Europe and Asia.. it
doesn't make us any less equal or important. Please don't respond to this
starting something saying we're better because blah blah.. it's not
important.. just wanted to share my view :)

not without freezing the computer totally.. thank microsoft for that.
Unless you remove it from the registry (I think you can, can be fatal for
your windows), though I'm not sure of the exact operation.

I keep AIM on weekly.. no conflicts with me.. she's either running some

make sure it doesn't try to open your connection through IE, that might be
the problem there, though not sure.

another RWX based 3d system

Looks like a VERY early version of AW.. needs to be developed a lot more
before I'd get into it :) looks promising, maybe AW can get some
competition albeit far, far off maybe a half decade.

Linux

Nov 7, 2001, 12:08am
In my opinion Redhat is the best for a beginner (which would be an expert in
windows, no matter how good you are linux is a very different OS and has a
steeper learning curve compared to windows ) to pick up and really get in
depth with it fast. Plus WINE (good for AW) seems to be readily available
and well documented for RH 7.1 and 7.2. Of course you have to account for
the ISP too.. if they support linux's dialup most DUN will ie. Earthlink and
Juno (I think). If you're on cable it should be very easy with DHCP.

Linux

Nov 7, 2001, 1:51am
Nice informative post :) but WINE has supported 3d cards for a while.. but
you needed to get a CD application that has directX instal since the directX
install goes from the web now (MS's approach to stop WINE). But Redhat 7
works perfect for me in KDE, might just be your configuration since not all
things are compatible (majorly being window oriented hardware like winmodems
and winsound cards). Redhat is, like I said, more towards beginners, but is
still great for experienced people who can change the stuff fast (I don't
use the non-professional versions of redhat so I don't know if that's true
for the normal one). KDE is better IMHO too (my redhat defaulted to KDE not
gnome). This is my rave for now :)

WAY o.t. - CPU liquid cooling :)

Nov 10, 2001, 10:07am
Yeah it totally rocks the speed of your computer when the temperature is
lower. Most supercomputers are kept at -25º C hehe. I'm sure it'll be
standard in a couple of years to have a liquid nitrogen coolant system,
that's what they're talking about throwing into PC's.

--Bowen--

Nov 11, 2001, 9:44pm
Don't use Water, keeping it very cold with liquid nitrogen generally
prevents condensation to form on the outside of the tubes. Or you can put
the tubes inside another tube set.

Nov 12, 2001, 12:59pm
That's cool.. you should use liquid nitrogen ;) LoL It's the best stuff for
the job.. pretty much eliminates lagginess in computations due to the heat.
It's crazy they way they did it.. there's one that was completely submerged
into the liquid medium. I thought that was pretty cool :).

too explosive around constant heat.. yes helium is explosive in certain
conditions :). Nitrogen doesn't have the same properties as the
hydrogen-helium group, so it doesn't become as unstable as fast as they
would (that's why they use helium for propellents in spacecraft). Of
course, my chem teacher would get on my case for not saying period or what
not.. but he was a quack (kinda like IA).

html help

Nov 11, 2001, 5:39pm
After reading this post and it's responses, I'm wondering why you want to
protect your HTML and/or images so much? If someone is really determined,
they'll get what they want, printscreen is the main way they'll get your
images, or they'll find the source in the temp folders. Maybe you should
put a TM up on your site?

That's true, very true, I don't mind people taking my HTML because really
they could've made it on their own.. I just did it first, but images there's
lots of ways to protect.. .htaccess is one way.. like xoom.com has, or
caption it, watermark it, etc.
