Yeah, NewAW isn't just the old AW with a twist - it's an entire new type of
thing that may not attract nearly as many as AW does. AW has been the main

Umm, no. For the last time, NewAW is *not* going to replace AlphaWorld!
It's just yet another world people can visit, if they so choose.
Honestly, I doubt NewAW will affect AW Prime's visitor levels after it's

There are quite a few PKs are there not? I am just wondering why the GKs
are not simply picked from the best of the PKs to specifically work in
AWGate since it does seem to be much more populated than any other AWI World
besides AW, which is often empty at ground zero.
The PKs just seem like they aren't serving their purpose which is to patrol
the AWI worlds, which (if I'm not mistaken) would inclue AWGate. I don't
mean to rat on the GKs at all, infact I've never noticed an issue with them,
but I think it would just be in the best interest if the PKs and GKs were
merged into one. I think the GKs would be a much better sub-category of PKs
rather than a seperate group altogether.

i agree that this was done , but ...
if object selection is off , no one can right clik objects if they dont have
build rights , if they have build rights , they can right clik all objects
, but only his own property wont be greyed out .
if we leave this option as it is , then object selection should be enabled
in newaw , so ppl still can build , and they cant do the object move trick
in the prison .
now object selection is on , its the same thig as above , but also plp with
no build rights can right clik objects , but they are greyed out , if it
isnt their own property , i think everyone wants the old system back . where
you can right clik all objects , and they arent greyed out , even if it isnt
your property . public building wolrds need this badly .

You can't move, modify or delete objects that don't belong to you (unless
they're labeled as <Tourist> ) anyway because of Building Inspector, so
what's the point in greying out the box in the first place??

As Joker (sort of) articulated, the original line of thinking behind
disabling the OP box for objects that you do not own was that this would
prevent people from being able to move objects out of their way
temporarily. Since there's a delay between the time you move an object
and the time the server checks the object and moves it back, people
could simply move objects out of the way and cheat in mazes or games or
escape a prison.
Unfortunately, a side effect of disabling the OP box is that you also
disable the text boxes, so people can't copy/paste the text that is put
in them. What *should* happen for other people's objects is that it only
disables the action icons (except Duplicate) and the keyboard shortcuts
associated with them. But, I guess that involved too much coding rather
than saying "just disable the whole thing." :P

that's why I took over the world to make A!!CT a Place you felt safe to let

Looking at some old birthday and get well builds show plain white walks

very concerned about this happening. We want for things to be preserved for
future generations of citizens. There has to be a better way. We pay more
for citizenship, is there a way to incorporate some web space into that
which is never deleted? I'm not going to let this one go. Especially
birthdays, get wells, weddings, very personal acts of kindness from citizens
to citizens. The company needs to understand that while protecting
themselves legally it is a detriment in that it leaves us with nothing to
pass along to future generations of AW citizens.
|
Listen! You'll continue to hear me over and over and over until some kind
of agreement is reached. No way to leave anything for future generations of
AW if our builds don't stay the way we meant for them to look!

You can't possibly be holding this against Active Worlds. If you're so
cheap that you expect AW to spend $9000 plus the annual fee to keep the
machine powered and hosted on a good server, you're crazy. There are tons
of expenses AWI has to pay already. Haven't you noticed their stock
figures? They haven't looked good at all in years.

How did you conduct these "tests"?
I don't think rendering can cause anything of the sort. The rendering
simply shows your view and the objects and everything whereas the
programming determines if you can or can't move forward any longer and such.
I don't think the rendering engine really gives any ouput to the programming
code, either, except if there is an error and for the frame rate.

Recent experimentation has shown that a massive performance drop related to
collision detection/sliding ONLY takes place (on my system) while in D3D
(T&L or no).
|
Tests with D3D indicate that colliding with an object, even if no movement
is being made (face a flat surface at a 90 degree angle), FPS can often be
cut in half (60 drops to 30)
The same test with OpenGL and software indicate that no more than 1 FPS is
ever lost while colliding. I also noticed that sliding is generally much
smoother in OpenGL, even though OGL is mostly useless as far as speed and
accuracy of rendering.
This seems to indicate that the glitch which causes the FPS to plummet is
not actually in the collision code but (somehow?) related to the rendering.
Anyone able to confirm or deny these results?

Not all ISPs offer it and those that do are reluctant to give it to you.
You must ask and most of the time, they'll refer you to a free server before
giving you their space. When you do get a login, it's often extremely
limited in space and bandwidth. I know I get space from Charter Cable but
it's like 500k and there's less than 5mb of bandwidth. It's just utterly
useless.

Hmmm, I also have Charter Cable and have 10MB of space. You might want to
check into that. It says right on their website:
"10MB limit is hard-coded into the system.........."

If I was a mother, this would be the worst mother's day ever. I feel bad
for my Mom, I can't do anything for her cause I have soo much damned
homework. I started Friday afternoon, slept that night, started saturday
morning, didnt sleep last night, and I probably still won't get it all done
in time. :-(

yeah, I did all that, but I still feel bad. Usually I make her breakfast
and everything and I just felt useless today. :-\

Dion...it's never too late!
Something as simple as a kiss on the cheek...a huge hug...and a thank you
for being my Mother comment is worth far more than any monetary gifts:)
