Actually, that sounds like a great idea, except I wouldn't offer prizes,
since the real CY Awards don't offer prizes either (and that's not the
point of the CYs anyway). I think simply making a "TeenCY" statue object
that the winners could place in their builds/worlds would suffice. :)

I'm not ignoring it whatsoever; I'm fully aware that a byproduct of
winning a CY Award is that you might get a few more visitors than you
normally would. But that still doesn't invalidate my argument. Why
should that prevent worthy contenders from winning an award? If an
adult-oriented world truly had the best objects or avatars (even if some
of them aren't entirely "proper") or what-have-you, why should they be
denied the recognition just because some curious 12-yr-old might visit
their world afterwards? Should the Academy not recognize well done
R-rated movies simply because some kid might rent that movie after
seeing it win an Oscar? I think not. Once again, it's up to the parents
to make sure their kids don't go where they're not supposed to, not the
CY Committee.

I said R rated movies, not X, as, if I'm not mistaken, minors are not
supposed to be watching R rated movies anymore than they should be
watching X rated ones. And, if I recall correctly, there have been
plenty of R rated movies that have won some sort of Oscar. (maybe not
Best Picture, but an Oscar is an Oscar)
At any rate, thank you for clearing that up. I was afraid AWI would
start trying to legislate the community into oblivion. :P

There are also more members of this Community than the ones who debate
here in the NGs, and as someone pointed out in an earlier post, (if it
hasn't been deleted already :P) you don't hear from the people who are
happy with how things are going, so naturally it sounds as if the
"entire community" is up in arms over this when in actuality, it could
only be a small minority.
I think the only way we're every really going to resolve this whole
thing is by including the *entire* community (or at least a sizable
majority) in this discussion. One possible way to do that would be for
"Everyone's Favorite Troll", JBELL, to crack open AWDebate and invite
everyone, adults and teens alike, (or at the very least, representatives
from each "group") in to debate the issue. And with a little help from
AWI in terms of advertising the event, I think we could all come to some
sort of agreement amongst the majority on how to handle the next CYs. If
not, then once all sides of the argument have been heard, they could
narrow the possible solutions down to the top 3 and have everyone vote
on it. Either way, I think it's certainly a more democratic option than
having the vocal NG minority decide the issue for the rest of us.

Well, gee Daphne, that sounds like a democratic decision to me! If the
Company says that the Community belongs to us, then that means that
*we*, as a Community, decide, not the Company's guidelines. And since
it's obvious that the Company doesn't care enough about its own
guidelines to actually enforce them, then we can still make this a
democracy if we so choose. Sounds like AWI is finally taking the "hands
off" approach that its predecessors took oh so long ago...

Ok, ENZO, I know you meant well by getting rid of some of the nastiness
here in this NG, but cut it out already with the deleting of random
posts! Either I'm imagining things or posts are disappearing left and
right, with some threads not making sense now that posts are missing!
Methinks you should worry about moderating *future* posts and not make
the moderation retroactive. What's done is done and the damage can't be
undone just by deleting the post that caused it.

The following is a dramatization. Anyone who takes this seriously needs
to get out more:
Goober King: Waiter?
Waiter: Yes, sir? Are you ready to order?
Goober King: Yes, please.
Waiter: What will you be having?
Goober King: I think I'll have your Head on a Platter Special, please.
Waiter: Excellent choice, sir. What sort of Head would you like?
Sirloin? Round Steak? Eep? ENZO?
Goober King: Hmm... Do you have Mountain Myst by any chance?
Waiter: Indeed we do.
Goober King: Excellent! I'll have that then.
Waiter: How would you like your Head done?
Goober King: Well done, please. Preferably charred.
Waiter: ... I see... What side dishes would you like to have?
Goober King: Whaddya got?
Waiter: You can choose between forgery, plagiarism, theft, distrust, or
cole slaw.
Goober King: Hmm... so many choices... I'll take the forgery and plagiarism.
Waiter: Ok then. Let me just take your menu here and I'll be back with
your meal in a few minutes.
Goober King: Thanks!
For those of you who actually bother to read the AW Newsletter every
month, you may have noticed an article in the November installment
concerning the CY Awards. What you may not have noticed is a slight
error at the end of the article, where it says "The CY Awards Executive
Committee".
Now, if you take that article, and put it up next to the article that I
posted in the AWNews section of VR Village
(http://www.spiraline.com/~vrvillagevoice/html/ and click on the AWNews
icon in the middle of the page), you might notice something. They're
disturbingly similar, and there's a reason for that.
When I wrote the article for AWNews, I also submitted it to Mountain
Myst, at the behest of the CY Awards Committee, so that she could post
it in the AW Newsletter and on the CY Awards website. I figured she'd
probably take out the voting results and snip some parts just to make it
shorter. Instead, what I found was an article that was butchered almost
beyond recognition, and absolutely no credit for the article to me
whatsoever.
Now, if she had simply used my article as a base for hers and didn't use
any of my original material, I wouldn't really care. But the fact that
she left almost entire paragraphs intact, copying them WORD FOR WORD,
without so much as a "Goober King contributed to this article" nod
pisses me off to no end!
Conveniently, the Newsletter disclaimer states that "You hereby
authorize Activeworlds, Corp to use and/or authorize others to use all
or part of your Postings in any manner, format, or medium that
Activeworlds, Corp or such other parties see fit." Actually, I'm fine
with that. It's the "Not giving credit where credit is due and making it
look like someone else wrote it" part that I have a severe problem with!
Therefore, I am no longer submitting *any* more material to that mockery
of newsletter "journalism", and this includes my UTN Recommendations.
You can find future UTN Recommendations under the Town of the Month
section on the UTN website (http://utn.cjb.net/utnhome.htm) and you can
continue to find AWNews articles at VR Village until the AWNews site is
back up and running. In the meantime, I suggest you all find alternative
methods for getting your monthly AWI fix, since it seems nothing can be
trusted from that sham of a publication.
And to think, I was just beginning to trust AWI again....

Goober King: Excuse me, Waiter?
Waiter: Err, yes, sir?
Goober King: Is it too late to change my order?
Waiter: Not at all, sir.
Goober King: Good. Can you make my Head on a Platter Special a Weebo
instead of a Mountain Myst? I think it goes better with the plagiarism
and forgery than the Mountain Myst does.
Waiter: Certainly. I'll get that order changed right away, sir.
Goober King: Thank you.
Some journalist I am. :P Turns out MM had sent the article to the CY
Committee for approval before posting it on the Newsletter. Naturally,
the Committee said there should be changes and so MM left it up to them
to decide how to change it. Then, Weebo proceeded to email MM the
version of the article you see on the Newsletter now, and MM, assuming
that Weebo and Co. had checked with me first to make sure the changes
were ok, went ahead and added it to the Newsletter.
Guess we all have one more reason to hate the CY Committee now! Yeehaw! :P

Netscape lost the browser war because it sat on its lead. But it seems
someone at AOL managed to give them a swift kick in the pants and now
they're right back in the thick of things.
Bowen, I wouldn't worry too much about NS 4.x users. At last check,
they're only about 2% of page views and that number is shrinking fast as
they upgrade to NS 7. Oh yea, and to all those NS 4.x users out there
who haven't upgraded yet, you don't know what you're missing! Don't let
NS 6.0 leave a bad taste in your mouth; it's been all but forgotten. :)

Most self-respecting newsreaders have an option that will automatically
spell-check your post when you click Send.

Way to completely miss the joke, JBELL. You might want to check and see

If NewAW doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then don't go there. It's
pretty simple. Those people who like the idea of having to "buy" objects
and earn money will go to NewAW. Those that don't will continue to go to
the other public building worlds. There might be an initial crowd of
curiosity seekers once the world opens, but after the novelty wears off,
only the people who actually *want* to be in NewAW will stay there.

And besides, how can anyone think they can control the entire Internet?
At best, the US Government can only prevent "hate speech" from being
hosted on US servers.

And I do mean "all" communications, because even a personal note to your closest friend might some day result at least indirectly in such a reaction by somebody someplace on the planet.

Hates hate speech legislation...

My point still applies. How can *anyone* believe they can control the
Internet, be they one country or many? The only possible way to have
truly effective legislation would be if every single technologically
advanced country in the world agreed to the same piece of legislation
*and* actually bothered to enforce it! And I'm sorry, but that just
isn't going to happen.
Therefore, woo Bush! :D
