[View Quote] -- Goober King Version 2.1, now in beta! gooberking at utn.cjb.net A Discussion Regarding new 3.4 Movement Changes. And stuff.Dec 18, 2002, 1:54am
Ugh, an open beta is exactly what we *don't* need right now. All that
will do is increase exponentially the amount of noise created in the beta newsgroups from people who are complaining that "AW doesn't work!" and are reporting bugs that have already been reported 10 times over. Shamus has enough to deal with right now as it is with crowds of ingrates yelling in his ear. :P [View Quote] -- Goober King Bringing in da noise gooberking at utn.cjb.net Leaving betaDec 28, 2002, 3:36pm
Let's think about it, KAH: If she's no longer on the beta team, she
can't post to the beta NG, therefore she posted it here where, hopefully, someone on the devteam would see it. Considering the first TV station in AW appeared in 2001, that would make
2001 "old" in this context, whereas all the TV stations that have just recently begun to spring up would be considered "new". [View Quote] -- Goober King Everything new is old again gooberking at utn.cjb.net Vote on your favorite tv stationJan 10, 2003, 10:19am
Can't say I've ever heard of it. I was referring to ABN, which was what
got the current TV craze underway. [View Quote] -- Goober King Gotta start somewhere gooberking at utn.cjb.net welcome messageJan 5, 2003, 12:13am
Y'know AbMo... there's something wrong when your signature is almost 20
times the size of your actual post... :P [View Quote] -- Goober King Man of few words gooberking at utn.cjb.net ThereJan 10, 2003, 3:03pm
It said you could use your credit card to buy more Therebucks, which in
turn can buy you more clothes, etc. What gets me is this: "The company, which has secured $33 million in funding through venture capitalists and 84 employees, says it can break even with just 150,000 subscribers. Executives say they have enough funds to last two years." So, at worst, There will be around for at least two years. And considering how much publicity they've already been getting, not to mention the 84 employees that can manage their universe (as opposed to about 15 employees at ActiveWorlds, Inc.), I predict they'll be in business for quite some time after that. Whether they'll actually last as long as AW has remains to be seen, but unless AWI steps up, they're going to be left in the dust. :-/ [View Quote] -- Goober King READING IS FUN!! gooberking at utn.cjb.net ThereJan 10, 2003, 4:37pm
Umm, not quite. In the entire history of AW, I don't think they've ever
had more than 20-25 employees, tops. At their height, I believe they had only 5 programmers, at best. I'm sorry, but that's not enough to manage such a huge universe as AW and help it grow and prosper. And while they have made attempts to draw in more employees, they never seemed very aggressive about getting more. (probably because they couldn't afford them) And don't get me started on their ho-hum approach to advertising and publicity. :P All I'm saying is that they've had years to "work on the company". If they don't kick it up a notch and get serious about making this a marketable product while still nurturing the community, instead of just treating this whole thing as "Rick & JP's Pet Project," then everyone here will get their virtual fix elsewhere and Rick & JP will have a lot more to worry about than just getting the next beta out. :P [View Quote] -- Goober King BAM! gooberking at utn.cjb.net And the same to you, Bill!Jan 11, 2003, 5:18pm
All I see is a blank page and no pop-up... Oh, that's right! I use
Netscape, so I don't fall victim to such lame tricks! :) Hooray for pop-up blocking! :D [View Quote] -- Goober King Netscape > Yuo gooberking at utn.cjb.net And the same to you, Bill!Jan 11, 2003, 9:02pm
I think you mean "Opera", jstone. Oprah would just talk the popups to
death. :P And, as I mentioned before, Netscape blocks popups as well. Not only that, it's actually smart enough to still allow popups that you specifically activate (i.e. by clicking a link that pops up a new window) and you can choose websites that are exempt from popups, or only block popups from certain sites. LOL As if yours isn't a "n00b station", GC? Look at it this way: Maybe
this influx of competition will actually inspire one of you guys to make a *legit* virtual TV station! And by legit, I mean something other than another lame rotating banner ad. [View Quote] -- Goober King Prove him wrong gooberking at utn.cjb.net AWECJan 18, 2003, 2:01am
Not quite. Like IHNK pointed out, the only reason English seems so easy
to learn is because you grew up with it. In fact, English is *the* hardest language to learn simply because it's a mish-mash of Latin and Germanic languages, among others. Next on the list would be the Oriental languages, but those are definitely a distant second in terms of structural complexity. How many times do I gotta tell ya? You have to spell out sarcasm in

God, you people are dense. All she's saying is that she'd be perfectly willing to build stuff for $20, regardless of if there was a contest or not.
And you people also need to get through your thick skulls that this contest is strictly that: A contest. It's not some cheesy way of getting people to build things for the Universe. It's just a contest to give people the opportunity to show their creativity. Read, and become educated: http://awnews.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=314&mode=flat&order=0&thold=-1 [View Quote] -- Goober King Assumptions, they be dangerous things gooberking at utn.cjb.net New ObjectsJan 27, 2003, 12:28am
Ok folks, here's a quick lesson in posting in the NGs:
1. Don't post while drunk 2. Don't post while you have a dead rat shoved up your ass 3. Don't post unless you're actually planning to read the post your replying to. Now class, who can tell me which of these rules Strike Rapier broke with this post? Anyone? While you're thinking about that, allow me to offer Strike some advice: Go do something constructive... like take some anger management courses... She was simply looking for what everyone else thought about the idea, hence asking the *community* about it. Besides, it has a better chance of getting read by the boys upstairs here than it does getting buried in the wishlist NG. :P [View Quote] -- Goober King The dead rat gooberking at utn.cjb.net New ObjectsJan 27, 2003, 2:36pm
And this coming from someone who can't even type properly. Right, *I'm*
the one that needs a life... Maybe if you had actually *read* her post, you would have noticed that she wasn't complaining, she was looking for feedback and trying to get a sense of what the community felt about the issue. Last I checked, that's what the NGs were for: Discussing a topic, not looking for every opportunity to cry about someone who's actually trying to start a decent conversation in here. Heaven forfend if that were to happen! [View Quote] -- Goober King Now returning you to your regularly scheduled life, already in progress gooberking at utn.cjb.net New ObjectsJan 28, 2003, 6:58pm

Did it ever occur to you that she might be right? It must be a pretty
sad life for someone to have a hernia over people posting in the right NG. Makes one wonder how you people ever leave the house... [View Quote] -- Goober King Or maybe they *don't* leave the house... gooberking at utn.cjb.net There you Have it Folks.Jan 27, 2003, 10:12am
Hey now, don't be dissin' my boy Facter (that's *my* job :P)! I don't
recall him ever whining about people posting in the wrong NG; he's got better things to do than scour the NGs for supposed ne'er-do-wells. [View Quote] -- Goober King Farting bot programmer gooberking at utn.cjb.net There you Have it Folks.Jan 27, 2003, 10:15am
Actually, she's doing exactly what all of you people constantly complain
about: Staying on topic. Since none of her other threads specifically cover the topic of people whining about posting in the wrong NG, she had to post a new thread. Isn't that the proper netiquette? :P Oh wait, that's right! You people are only concerned with staying on topic when it's *your* thread! My mistake... [View Quote] -- Goober King Has suddenly found something new to argue about! :D gooberking at utn.cjb.net Tom (Flagg) is leaving AWJan 27, 2003, 6:16pm
Well, there goes the last bastion of community support in AW (with the
possible exception of Mountain Myst). Now AWI will lock itself in its ivory tower and we'll never hear from them again, except when they have to raise prices some more. :( Farewell, Flagg... [View Quote] -- Goober King Another one bites the dust gooberking at utn.cjb.net Wow....Jan 28, 2003, 12:16am

hehe Yea, it is pretty entertaining to watch, but at the same time, it's
rather sad when you think about it. Has the state of the NGs degraded to such a level that people will complain when someone actually uses them for their intended purpose? [View Quote] -- Goober King No discussion in the NGs!!!11 ;P gooberking at utn.cjb.net |
