Someone doing AWC's advertising for them?

Anyone know if A1CTTourist5 plans to release a DivX version of the
videos? ;)

Someone doing AWC's advertising for them?

Apr 26, 2002, 8:41pm
A1CTtourist5 requested that I delete the mirrored videos off of my Web
server, so I complied with his request. If you go to the URLs in my
previous post in this thread, the links will return a "404 Not Found"
error. I was only trying to help with A1CTtourist5's Web site bandwidth
restrictions by mirroring the files.

New Cy Pages!!!!!

Apr 26, 2002, 8:28am
I agree with Baro about the rollover buttons, they were not needed. The
overall design and graphics look very professional. However, what screen
resolution was the site designed for? 640x480? It just seems a bit small
in my opinion. If you made it like that on purpose so others can view it
inside of the AWB, then that is fine. If not, you just need to widen it
a bit more. Most people use at least 800x600 or higher for their screen
resolution.

A1CTtourist5 Videos

Apr 27, 2002, 6:36pm
I really like that Fun World video. The effects in there are great! Ever
consider different media formats, such as DivX, QuickTime, or RealPlayer
(now RealOne)? The vidoes are great, but the compression in the Windows
Media format makes them appear blurry and jagged. I know that if you
increased the rate at which they encoded, the video would look better,
but the videos would probably not be able to stream on slower
connections.

A1CTtourist5 Videos

Apr 28, 2002, 2:53pm
Shorah, I have used an encoder by Real to encode RealVideo files about
two years ago. I know the difference between RealVideo and RealAudio. I
just used the term RealPlayer and RealOne generically since it has been
so long since I last used the encoder. I didn't know what the proper
encoder's name was, so I just substituted the player's name. Thanks for
clearing it up by saying the encoder's current name is RealSystem
Producer. The encoder was named something else when I used it back then.
Your post was very informative.

I have visited AASwamp many a time and loved its environment and

release its objects, avatars, bot source, etc. to the public. Thank you

Not so with AWC. They are incorporated under Delaware law, where a
hostile takeover (buying 51% of a stock and saying you own it) does not
apply. This has been discussed in the past (even Eep has told others
about this).

Weebette's Condition

I just sent her family an e-mail. Although I don't/didn't know Weebette
personally, I have seen her AW handle mentioned various times throughout
the community. Quite frankly, I had no idea what atypical calciphylaxis
even was until I did some quick research on the Internet after reading
your post, Alphabit. It is a very serious condition. My thoughts are
with her and her family. I hope they will stay strong and try to find
peace.

Return of rypp!

Jun 10, 2002, 11:29pm
Welcome back to the community, rypp. Twenty days to get your citizenship
returned seems like a very long time. Then again, we are talking about
AWC here.

You are correct in saying this type of thing "IS A BIG DEAL." It may not
matter to some, but it is a major inconvenience to those that have their
citizenships taken/stolen. I just heard someone on the news say that
about 715,000 people in the U.S. are victims of identity theft each
year, and that number is expected to rise.

Need Your Brainstorming Help

Jun 10, 2002, 11:21pm
Just wanted to correct you on two things. See my comments below, please:

[View Quote] > *Universe Owner (Active Worlds, Inc.).

This is incorrect. The company has changed their name to Activeworlds
Corporation from Activeworlds Incorporated many, many months ago (I do
not know the exact date). Does this name change really matter? Not
really--I just thought I'd bring it to your attention.

> *Date universe came into existence (May, 2001). [As close as possible.]
I hope you are using May, 2001 as an example. The program AlphaWorld
(now known as the Active Worlds Browser or Active Worlds Plug-in) has
been in existence since late 1995.

I hope you don't take my post the wrong way. I'm not trying to come off
as being picky, I just want your project to have the correct
information/facts.

AW HI REZ CD_ROM

Jun 13, 2002, 12:39pm
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only thing the high
resolution CD did was use 256x256 (or higher) textures on most objects
and avatars instead of the 128x128 size. Since that time, a version of
the browser was released that can can use 256x256 textures and higher
(without having to buy the CD). What the CD did was look on the CD-ROM
first to see if the higher resolution textures were on it. If they were,
it didn't download the 128x128 textures. If they were not on the CD,
then the browser would download the 128x128 (or whatever pixel size they
were) from the world's OP. Only some worlds used textures that were
256x256 pixels in size. New versions of the CD were never made since the
browser version that came out that could support high resolution
textures (I forget the exact version and build number, but it was at
least a year or two ago).

NG Survivor Diary Entry #1

Today was an exciting day indeed! Survivors were placed on teams, secret
alliances were formed, and an errie silence fell as everyone was
whispering to one another. Although some survivors were missing, the
event went well (besides the slow object path ;). Pictures were taken,
courtesy of Nornny, and we all introduced ourselves to everyone else.
The landscape of the NGS2002 world struck me as vast and impressive.
When the public is allowed in, they are in for a real treat.

I'm currently in the planning stages right now with others in my
alliance trying to come up with a bit of strategy. The Survivor Index
will be a great help with that. Newsgroup Survivor ][ should be very
exciting. I hope my tribe (Robego) wins the immunity challenge this
Saturday. I am also looking forward to setting up and building my camp.
The game is now on. May the best survivor win!

AWC Financial Information

Jul 8, 2002, 12:10am
Take this information however you wish. I am not implying anything
positive or negative regarding AWC's financial status with this post. I
merely thought some of the things below appear "interesting."

- As of July 5, 2002, AWC's stock price closed at 16 cents per share.
AWC's 52-week low was 10 cents per share (from Yahoo! Finance).

- AWC is currently listed on the Nasdaq SmallCap Market (from Yahoo!
Finance).

- A six month chart of AWC's stock:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=AWLD&d=c&k=c1&a=v&p=s&t=6m&l=on&z=m&q=l

- AWC's market capital is 1.4 million dollars (from Yahoo! Finance).

- Since the beginning of 2002, AWC stock has not closed above one dollar
per share.
(from
http://table.finance.yahoo.com/d?a=1&b=01&c=02&d=7&e=07&f=02&g=d&s=awld)

- AWC has or had six employees (from Market Guide).

- AWC Financial Snapshot (from the WSJ)
<
http://online.wsj.com/tafkam/public/resources/cgi-bin/public-financial-snapshot.cgi?route=BOH&template=public-financial-snapshot&ambiguous-purchase-template=public-symbol-ambiguity&profile-name=Portfolio1&profile-version=3.0&profile-type=Portfolio&profile-format-action=include&profile-read-action=skip-read&profile-write-action=skip-write&transform-value-quote-search=awld&type=symbol&nvp-companion-p-type=usstock%20usfund&transform-name-quote-search=nvp-set-p-sym&p-sym=&p-name=&profile-end=Portfolio
>

- During the end of AWC'S 03/31/02 quarter, AWC made $138,000.00 in
revenue. They had a net loss of $286,000.00. Their revenues reflected
increased licensing registration fees.
(from http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/awld.html)

- In the fiscal year of 2001, AWC CEO (Richard F. Noll) and AWC CFO
(J.P. McCormick) both had a $150,000.00 salary.
(from http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/awld.html)

- On April 29, 2002, Mr. Noll and Mr. McCormick each sold 600,000 shares
of stock at 46 cents per share to X3D Technologies Incorporated. The
combined value of the shares they sold is over $500,000.00 (from
Thompson Financial).

- The following information is from
http://www.edgar-online.com/bin/edgardoc/finSys_main.asp?dcn=0001116502-02-000832:

o There are 8,600,088 shares of AWC common stock outstanding.

o X3D Technologies Incorporated owns about 14% of AWC common stock
(around 1,200,000 shares).

o J.P. McCormick is the "Chairman of the Board" at AWC.

o A special meeting of the stockholders of AWC will take place on July
8, 2002 regarding whether or not to remove Alex M. Adelson and Bruce
Judson from the Board of Directors.

o "The Special Meeting noticed hereby was requested by John Textor,
chief executive officer of X3D Technologies, Inc. ("X3D"), a Florida
corporation located at 2401 PGA Boulevard, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.

As set forth in the Schedule 13D/A, on April 29, 2002 X3D purchased a
total of 1,200,000 shares of the Company's common stock from Messrs.
J.P. McCormick and Richard F. Noll or, 600,000 shares from each. Messrs.
McCormick and Noll are officers and directors of the Company and its
largest stockholders (the "Management Directors"). The purchase price of
the stock was $0.15 per share for a total of $180,000. On April 29,
2002, X3D also purchased 100 shares of the Company in the open market at
the purchase price of $0.46 per share. X3D stated its purpose in
entering into the transaction was to maximize the value of its
investment in the Company. It alleged that our board of directors had
failed to act on its proposal to merge into the Company (described
below) and our board of directors has caused us to fail to preserve our
Nasdaq listing as described below.

X3D had presented a proposal through which it would merge into the
Company in exchange for 40% of its outstanding common stock. X3D also
presented a proposal from an investor to invest $1,000,000 into the
Company. Our board of directors never considered the X3D merger proposal
because the Independent Directors never received what they considered to
be sufficient information concerning X3D. However, on June 6, 2002, X3D
withdrew its merger proposal, but not the related financing offer.

The Company's board of directors consists of five persons consisting of
the two Management Directors and the three Independent Directors. On May
20, 2002, X3D requested that the Company call a special meeting of its
stockholders for the purposes of removing Alexander M. Adelson and Bruce
Judson (two of the three Independent Directors) from the Company's board
of directors. If the X3D proposal passes, the Company will have three
directors. The Independent Directors blocked the efforts of the
Management Directors to approve the acquisition of X3D by the Company.
Since the two Management Directors have stated to the Independent
Directors that they favor an acquisition proposal submitted by X3D, the
effect of a vote to remove the two Independent Directors may be to
permit the Company to acquire X3D in the future if X3D renews its merger
proposal. The Management Directors would favor a proposal which keeps
the Nasdaq listing.

The Management Directors, while in favor of acquiring X3D in their roles
as directors, have declined to state how they will vote at the Special
Meeting."

o "On May 20, 2002 the Company received a Written Notice of Staff
Determination from Nasdaq that, as a result of the Company's failure to
comply with the applicable continued listing requirements, the Company's
common stock would be delisted from the Nasdaq SmallCap Market at the
opening of business on May 29, 2002, unless such delisting was stayed by
the Company requesting before such date an appeal of the Staff's
delisting determination. The Company has filed an appeal which is
scheduled to be heard on July 11, 2002. The Nasdaq notice stated that
the Staff's determination was based on the Company's failure to comply
with Nasdaq Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(2)(B) which states that for
"continued inclusion, the issuer shall maintain: (i) stockholders'
equity of $2.5 million; (ii) market capitalization of $35 million; or
(iii) net income from continuing operations of $500,000 in the most
recently completed fiscal year or two of the last three most recently
completed fiscal years." The Nasdaq notice also stated that the bid
price of the Company's common stock had closed below $1 per share for 30
consecutive trading days, and, accordingly, that it did not comply with
MarketPlace Rule 4310(c)(4)."

o "Nasdaq also advised the Company that effectiveness of the merger
between Activeworlds and Aladdin Systems Holdings, Inc., ("Aladdin") as
proposed in a previously announced nonbinding letter of intent, would
not cause Activeworlds to satisfy the Nasdaq SmallCap Market continued
listing requirements. Such continued listing was a condition to the
proposed merger with Aladdin.

Aladdin recently presented an updated merger proposal and financing
offer, neither of which met the criteria established by the board of
directors. In its letter of June 6th, X3D outlined a possible
acquisition proposal from a third party. We intend to review this
possible transaction. It is unclear whether it will have any impact on
our Nasdaq listing."

o "On May 29, 2002, minority stockholders of the Company filed suit
for injunctive relief and damages against the Management Directors
allegedly in their capacity as controlling stockholders of the Company.
The lawsuit alleges that they, in their capacity as controlling
stockholders, have breached their fiduciary duties owed to the Company
and minority stockholders by taking action designed solely to benefit
themselves at the expense of the minority stockholders and the Company.
Specifically, the lawsuit alleges that the Management Directors have
acted in concert to block the merger with Aladdin with the sole motive
of retaining their management positions. The lawsuit alleges that they
have threatened to vote their controlling shares against the Aladdin
merger, have sold a block of their own stock to X3D, a direct competitor
of the Company, for approximately 75% below the then market price for
such shares thereby devaluing the shares of the Company, provided X3D
access to confidential information of the Company and given X3D a
foothold in the Company with a view to taking it over. The Company has
already turned down a merger with X3D. The lawsuit further alleges that
the Management Directors and X3D have threatened to call a stockholders
meeting to approve a merger of the Company with X3D in contravention of
the will of the majority of the Company's board of directors. The
Delaware Chancery Court denied the plaintiffs' motion for temporary
injunctive and other relief."

AWC Financial Information

Jul 8, 2002, 3:00pm
Just trying to make sure that everyone is on the same page, Goober. That
is, if they are curious as to AWC's status financially. I didn't see a
newsgroup posting regarding most of what was contained in the post, so I
made it. Like I said, you can take it anyway you want. I'm not trying to
lower AWC's stock price or "take them down." I'll still be using AW
until the very last day they go belly up. It is just information
provided to users. Users can make up their own minds and do whatever
they want with the information provided. I have just taken public
information and compiled it into one place. The reader can make certain
connections with that information or not.

Yes, Goober, some of it is old news. While a great deal of things in my
post are also news items on AWNews.com, some are not.

[NG Survivor 2] 1st to go.../2nd week challenge

Jul 8, 2002, 4:42pm
<start>
NG Survivor Diary Entry #2

As I sit typing on my comp1.rwx, I can't help but feel sorry for
pixelot. No one wants to be the first person voted off of their tribe,
let alone the Newsgroup Survivor ][ game. Oh, well--such is life. D a n,
Maki, and myself were victorious during the first immunity challenge.
Even though some may think it odd, I lighted some of Nebewi's torches on
purpose. It was a "heat of the moment" thing. My strategy was to try and
confuse them for a few moments and then scurry back over to Robego's
side and light as many torches as I could, leaving Nebewi temporarily
scratching their heads. Whether or not my tactic had worked or not, or
made a big impression on the other tribe makes no difference. All that
matters is that Robego won.

One thing that concerns me, however, is the lack of Robego tribe members
attending events. There were only two other members of my tribe at the
challenge besides myself. At least some of the members were kind enough
and informed me that they would not be able to attend. If Robego is to
succeed in this game, we have to show up!

Another item that needs work is our camp. I was disgruntled to go to
NGS2002 world to see that my comp1.rwx was missing, only later to go
back again the next day to find it magically appear again! Our tribe
members need to talk about we should do with our camp, but how can we do
that if we aren't all on-line? We may have won the first challenge, but
we need to focus ourselves as a team to win the next one.

I'll be trying my hand at the web challenge this week. I never did win
an AW T-shirt before in any of the bingo worlds. :)

I have canceled posts and reposted them within minutes many times

Before I could cancel my post, Eep already posted a reply to it. I
didn't see his reply and went ahead and posted my corrections. Once that

Your best bet is to just proofread your post *before* sending it. ;)

This entire thing has been blown out of proportion. Everyone is saying
they did *not* do it but no one is admitting that they *did* do it. I
have heard many theories about who/whom may have done it. Obviously,
some say Robego did it. Others say that Newebi did it. And still others
say that Nornny was the one who did it. I'm not sure who to believe.

I have heard from others that Mod never made a threat against the Newebi
camp. The "grape vines" say that Mod was framed by someone else and that
a Robego member gave false information to the Newebi tribe. Whether or
not that is true, I don't know.

Yes, entry three and not four (I didn't write a diary for week three).
Well, this may seem odd, but I'm actually glad Nornny is back. It was
kind of dull around here (besides the camp vandalism) without him. This
new "Twist" thing should be very interesting. As for the immunity
challenge...I tried to make it, but wasn't on at the time. I came to
NGS2002 at least twice that day, but I guess my timing was way off. I'm
happy Maki won the challenge. Chalk up another point for Robego. I'm
surprised, yet very glad, that Robego hasn't lost a challenge yet.

I just took a look at our camp. It is in shambles. =( I tried to talk to
others, but I was extremely busy this week. I hope they don't think I'm
not trying to help out. I haven't heard from most of them, either. I
guess it doesn't really matter now because of this "Twist." I have a
feeling Nornny will split us apart as best he can. That can either be
good or bad, I'm not sure which yet. I have to go now and rest up for
this week.

[NG Survivor 2] It's a flaming hotbed out there...

Aug 7, 2002, 11:43pm
Please see my comments below:

[View Quote] Let me clarify a few things. It is not a hard drive, it is a computer.
During the Twist, D a n mistook it as being a hard drive for some
reason, and now you are doing the same thing, Nornny. Before the NGS2002
OP was changed, it looked like the comp1.rwx object on the AW path (it
had a monitor and a keyboard). Now it just looks like a computer case,
since you are using objects from the MegaPath. People used to use it as
a sign at the Robego camp.

From Nornny's instructions, I thought you were only allowed to bring
back your luxury objects to the circles near GZ. My computer was
underground (so it wouldn't get deleted), and since you turned off fly,
it was a pain in the at $$ to try and move it--but I finally did. I
thought that it might be of some help. When Mod and Eric built the hydro
power plant at the Robego camp (before the Twist), they needed a laptop
object to power it. Since no one brought back the laptop, I brought back
a computer. I'm sure the new Robego tribe can find a good use for it.

> Does Builderz, Binary, and maki have much
> in common? maki is most likely the one changing Binary's builds, and
> Builderz only shows up to challenges, and contributes little then. Can
> Robego last until the merge?

BinaryBud, maki, and I are all from the original Robego tribe. I don't
think we will have any major problems getting along at this point in the
game. As for me "contributing little," at least I show up to the
challenges and do the Web challenges almost every week. Some don't even
do that. I have good intentions. It is just kind of hard to contribute
when no one else that belongs to your tribe is on-line when you are (and
signs are being changed when you try to leave a message at camp).
