Well.. When you said "new" I was expecting something a little *newer* than
that... That was so easy to slop together I could almost cry! Just so everyone can see... This was my entry: http://207.59.10.4/cyawards/ Please tell me what you think... -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeremy Booker JTech Web Systems (www.JTechWebSystems.com -- Coming Soon) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [View Quote] silencedApr 26, 2002, 1:21am
Looks pretty nice, what's the new one look like, so I can make a choice?

Sadly, the choice has already been made. (that's what I was referring to in
my previous message) Check http://www.awcommunity.org/cyawards/ to see the new design that was chosen. Something of a sloppy remake of the old design if you ask me. The images were moved a little, and there is a top and left hand golden rules added, plus the left side menu. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeremy Booker JTech Web Systems (www.JTechWebSystems.com -- Coming Soon) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ [View Quote] baroApr 26, 2002, 4:25am
Yours has animated buttons, frivolous! Web pages should only have images
that are 100% necessary and or help with navigation. Could be worse, could have had Java or flash.. or.. or pop ups! You kids and your fancy graphics! How's about plain text black and white with no images. Heck how about simple randomly generated webpages that display random award "winners" ? Would solve many steps. baroApr 26, 2002, 4:34am
ooo I take back that last mico-paragraph about random winners... although it
begs the question, who will be on this alleged so called "selection committee" dotar sojatApr 26, 2002, 6:05am
Well I think yours looked great jerme, but then again I was nto the one who
had to decide. [View Quote] dotar sojatApr 26, 2002, 6:06am
I disagree baro. To be effective a website must load fast and grab
attention. jerme's did both of those. [View Quote] beardoApr 26, 2002, 7:08am
Couldn't you have changed the font colors? That purple color makes it
hard to read. -- Regards, Beardo Remove nospam. http://medlem.spray.se/beardo/ "alphabit phalpha" <alphabit at swbell.net> skrev i meddelandet news:3cc8bcf5$1 at server1.Activeworlds.com... > Woooohooooo! > The new Cy Pages are up and running! > AND...Thanks to Computerizer and his Company.....we now have our own forum:) > Please come and join the forum to keep updated on upcoming events and > announcements. I agree with Baro about the rollover buttons, they were not needed. The
overall design and graphics look very professional. However, what screen resolution was the site designed for? 640x480? It just seems a bit small in my opinion. If you made it like that on purpose so others can view it inside of the AWB, then that is fine. If not, you just need to widen it a bit more. Most people use at least 800x600 or higher for their screen resolution. -Builderz [View Quote] alphabit phalphaApr 26, 2002, 3:58pm
Hi Jerme:)
That was easy to put together? The forum...the album? Utilizing 2 servers? Wouldn't have been easy for me....but I'm not that well versed in web page building:) alphabit phalphaApr 26, 2002, 4:13pm
Hi again Jerme:)
Since your on the topic of comparing the old with the new...maybe you should be more thorough. What's new is the following; 1. Less graphics for faster download. 2. Corrected fonts so everyone can see the pages without having to highlite the letters. 3. A more organized links list. 4. A calender. 5. A chat forum. With capabilities for uploading a person's photo. 6. A chat forum with organized folders for each area of the teams. 7. More web space for the forum. 8. A historical section under construction. 9. Contact link with areas to fill in. 10. Voting and Nominations pages, that will save me about 200 hours of work:) 11. Future stuff that hasn't even been thought of yet! 12.....anything I might have forgotten:) You have a right to your opinions, and I respect them. Your entry was wonderful also. FYI.....The Webmaster that was chosen, was not only chosen for thier capabilities and talents, but anyone who joins the Team has a main criteria to meet. The Cy Heart. (The Cy Heart is one that thinks of others first. Gives more than receives) The Webmaster isn't just a Webmaster, they are part of the Cy Team and must be able to keep a positive attitude and work with others. Could you have fit in those shoes? (That is a rhetorical question:) alphabit phalphaApr 26, 2002, 4:16pm
Dear Community:)
The pages are new. If you have any helpful comments and suggestion please join the forum pages and post them there. We appreciate all constructive input:) Thanks! Bit:) silencedApr 26, 2002, 4:21pm
That stuff could be easily added into his design. It's a very nice design,
nice and light compared to the dark black and purple that's hard to makeout sometimes. The Forums and voting could be easily fit into Jerme's design :). --Bowen-- Have $3... want a website? http://www.smartpenguin.com/affiliate.php?id=12 [View Quote] alphabit phalphaApr 26, 2002, 5:07pm
You all will decide who will be on it:)

uh oh. That could be make it just as problematic as voting for the winners.
You'll have the same popularity contests have before, but this time groups of friends all submitting a person from their group not on the grounds of their skilled and objective judgeing, but on the grounds of their friends chosings the winners. brockApr 26, 2002, 5:51pm
Jer the reason i think your page wasnt accepted is it did not follow the CY
Awards color scheme of gold and purple. I could be wrong here but I believe web pages used in AW are built towards
the left for easier reading in the AW brwoser? silencedApr 26, 2002, 5:58pm
Well using center centers the page based on the browser's visable field, so
it'd fine either way. --Bowen-- Have $3... want a website? http://www.smartpenguin.com/affiliate.php?id=12 [View Quote] alphabit phalphaApr 26, 2002, 6:02pm
Trust me Baro....if people don't have the credentials to be a judge, they
will be asked if they really feel capable of performing the judging. We are hoping that the Community will participate enough to make sure experianced knowledgeable folks end up as judges. We also will need "fresh eyes" . The judging positions require alot of work. A ton of builds to see and programs to try out. They will be required to give input on what they chose also. We rely alot on trust regarding the Cys, and hopefully we can continue to do so:) We have tried alot of different ways to do the Cys....but this one hasn't been tried yet.....cross your fingers that this ones a hit;) sonystyleApr 26, 2002, 7:16pm
JerMe JerMe JerMe! lol, I never really did like the dark gloomy look of the
cy pages, and all they did was take the pieces and rearrange it as though it was nearly an accident, lol, oh well, and animated stuff and fancy graphics rocks! :-) (JerMe's a kid?) sonystyle [maki] [View Quote] sonystyleApr 26, 2002, 7:22pm
oh there's more - *chooses a random message to reply to with* Well I believe
that the roll over buttons (which take seconds to download) and other nice graphics are nice and grab most people's attention and keep them interested if you went to a site with white background and black text and that was it with a few links...hah! Most systems (despite their connection) take seconds to download the buttons and images anyway, lots of people also have fast connections, and also, the '640x480' mention, alot of times it's easier to navigate and more organized and better looking if it's smaller, also the aw browser, professional websites and business often do that, I think they look great :- sonystyle [maki] [View Quote] computerizerApr 26, 2002, 7:33pm
Greetings,
Many of you are putting down my web design for the new Cy Awards web site at http://www.awcommunity.org/cyawards/ . I wanted to comment on the site a little bit. First, and most importantly, I just want to let everyone know that I am open to suggestions for everyone regarding the web site. Already I have lightened the font color some, as per demand, because a minority of people seem to have trouble seeing it on their darker monitors. You're right, that the template for the site I made was a quickly-made page. It was supposed to be just a sample page to show AlphaBit that I could make some sort of web page. However, she liked it so much, that I felt any immediate changes to improve it would not be neccessary. Since then, I have personally entered in the entire text of every page on the site, and I have created lots of PHP and Perl to help run the site and related things much better, in addition to donating server space and server processor time to the Cy Awards at my own expense. If you want to help out with the web site, don't put it down, give me suggestions. As I said, I am completely open to suggestions from anyone. Please let me know. I plan to ignore any more put-downs about my web design. I own a web hosting and web design company, and I don't intend for anyone to hurt the reputation of myself or my company in any way. Hey Comp,
Well put and I hope everyone respects your professionalism and honors your request. Thank you, Bit:) 83058Apr 26, 2002, 9:38pm
Maybe you don't want to hear this, but one of the most elementary design
rules for a website, any website, is to NOT use a dark background color with light colored text. It's very difficult to read, and black with purple text is extremely difficult. Perhaps you could use a light lilac background with black text to keep the same color theme? A casual search turned up many sites regarding designing websites, and they all say the same thing. Dark background/light text = poor design: http://www.webmastersdirectory.com/articles/web_design/118.shtml [View Quote] computerizerApr 26, 2002, 10:02pm
I don't know if I'm reading wrong or not, but it looks to me like that URL
says: " If you do choose to stray from black on white, make sure that there is enough contrast between your text and background colors so that your visitors will not have trouble reading your content. " Which is exactly why I am making the text color brighter, so it contrasts better with the background (I did say this on the Cy Awards forums and in my previous message here) -Computerizer "83058" <xavarella at unforgettable.com> wrote in news:3cc9e4f1 at server1.Activeworlds.com: > http://www.webmastersdirectory.com/articles/web_design/118.shtml |
