Do you have the latest version awadmin5.exe that saves 3 additional values?
62 is minimum visibility. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Tunnel server problemsJan 13, 2002, 7:30am

Did you see this post during 3.2 beta test?
---------- "mauz" wrote > When I was using AW behind a proxy (type=3), others saw my IP as some > foreign IP. Did it come from the tunnel server? Is it still unique, > or what would happen to other firewall/proxy users if I got ejected? I'm guessing that the "foreign IP" they saw for you was probably the tunnel server's IP. When you are behind a proxy, the tunnel server only sees the IP of the proxy. The address other users see for you (presumably from the eject dialog?) depends on the world server version: World server versions 3.1 or earlier see the IP of the tunnel server. These versions have no idea what a tunnel server is and when they see one, they think it's just another user entering the world. If a firewalled user is ejected out of a 3.1 world server, it will block the tunnel server and thus all users anywhere using the tunnel server. And yes, this would be bad. :) A good reason for all world owners to upgrade to the 3.2 server after 3.2 is released. World server version 3.2 knows what a tunnel server is, and the tunnel server sends the world server the IP of the connection it is proxying. So in a 3.2 world server, users will see the IP of your proxy server. In this case, if you are ejected, it will only block out your proxy server from the world. The 3.2 uniserver also knows what a tunnel server is and works the same way the 3.2 world server does as far as blocked IPs go. -Roland ---------- -- Mauz http://mauz.info Tourist enabled worldsFeb 10, 2002, 10:57am

They may not implement that so quickly. Quoting a high-ranking AWC official:
"if we make it too easy for them then there will be no incentive to register". ;) Well Gatekeepers are compiling a list of their own, and there are teleport sites already. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Telegram Sound LanguageOct 24, 2002, 6:55pm
English-speaking default telegram.wav isn't such a great idea,
unless there is a way to localize sounds with message sets... Ah well, followups to Wishlist I guess. [437] -- Mauz http://mauz.info Telegram Sound LanguageOct 25, 2002, 1:47pm

Good idea. Does not seem to work yet though, at least when
I simply copied the Default folder under other message set's name. I was not using Default.awm to begin with, and still heard the default sounds. -- Mauz http://mauz.info NelXaga EntertainmentJan 6, 2004, 12:19pm

Funny I do not see any attachments, maybe my Outlook Express censors them. Go to Tools menu and choose Options and then Security tab, and make sure that you have checked "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." How to find more about a newsgroup message's sender in OE: - right click on the message in the messages list - choose Properties - choose Details tab - copy the IP number from NNTP-Posting-Host line, e.g. 65.142.126.246 - go to some online DNS lookup service like http://network-tools.com/ - paste the number into empty field there and click Submit - below that will appear something like "IP address: 65.142.126.246 Host name: 0-2pool126-246.nas1.pikeville1.ky.us.da.qwest.net" where you will see that the message originated from a Qwest.net customer in Pikeville, Kentucky, US. -- Mauz http://mauz.info more up-to-date graphics supportJan 20, 2004, 1:11pm

Ever since AW 3.0 there has been a frame rate throttle that tries to keep
the frame rate under certain number, used to be 50 but they raised it to 100 later. It was introduced by advice from Criterion, to help certain lag situations that Voodoo and NVidia cards had at high framerates when using RenderWare. I don't know if that bug still exists with newer cards and Direct3D versions. Roland thought about making the throttle user-configurable anyway. There is also the problem that if the visibility rises too fast, then there may be sudden pauses when lots of objects come into view and start downloading and stuffing themselves into memory. In preprogrammed environments it is easier to predict what is behind next cell. This would be a nice subject to discuss at TechTalk if they still had those... -- Mauz http://mauz.info <no subject>Mar 19, 2004, 1:58pm

"Auto-Responding Message"? One good reason: Outlook Express.
Under Tools - Options, choose the Maintenance tab and uncheck "Delete news messages 5 days after being downloaded". Maybe Unsubscribe wishlist and then Subscribe again. -- Mauz http://mauz.info looking levelMar 21, 2004, 10:19am

I'm not sure if Alex #1 was talking about 3.4 or 3.5,
but in 3.5 the buttons do not grey out at all anymore. Maybe because they had so much trouble with them during 3.4 beta ;) They said then something like that the view did not change in discrete increments anymore but that they use floating point numbers internally (although broadcast integers?), so the view never really sets at exactly 0 pitch. So you must click the look level button or key to look exactly level anyway. -- Mauz http://mauz.info i wishApr 7, 2004, 2:05pm

Try to move or resize the main window slightly away from top right corner
of Windows desktop. Maybe start by letting a narrow slip of background picture show beside the top and right sides of AW browser, then close AW and come back to see if the change sticks. When I complained about this "feature" during beta, I got a reply that it is probably meant to prevent the close/resize icons moving outside the desktop area, and they may fix it later along with bigger changes to GUI. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Create TextureJul 26, 2004, 12:42pm

So if the rwx file has "uv 6 1.5", would it change to
"uv 12 3" or "uv 2 0.5" or "uv 2 2" or something else? -- Mauz http://mauz.info Create TextureJul 28, 2004, 2:13pm

Well not all commands look good on every object anyway.
Maybe sometimes you just want to go crazy with your build. This "UV-multiplier" could be neat when testing own rwx's in AW. Walk001 has simple UVs like "0 4" etc, so using multiplier 2.5 would make the texture tile 10 times across the surface, and 0.25 would make it tile just once. Of course it may take trial&error or looking inside the file to determine the multiplier, if you want a whole integer as result. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Intigrated(Local) Sun/Moon RotationJul 31, 2004, 6:38am

Good idea :) So Immigration Officer would say e.g. "Citizen Xxxxx #nnnnn requests entry"?
Would all the people currently in the world see the requests, or just the ones who have caretaker rights and thus can add entry rights? The worldowner/CT could have a way to send an automatic (or manual?) response back to the applicant via Immigration Officer, like "Sorry, private function now". Maybe also an option not to see the requests at all, in case they start cluttering chat. And a citizen could only request entry once per day or something, or then it should be possible to block some individual citizens from flooding with requests. -- Mauz http://mauz.info Invite Request to Private WorldsMar 1, 2006, 4:25pm

I get by with these settings under Options, Settings, Performance:
- Attempt to keep the frame rate at or near: 35 meters - but don't let the visibility drop below: 30 meters - Limit frame rate to a maximum of about: 33 frames/sec. If this third value was larger than the first value, then the visibility range would start creeping up automatically, possibly hogging up CPU. -- Mauz http://mauz.info "Lock Particle Yaw"Jun 11, 2006, 6:02pm

I didn't crash once - shouldn't a faulty object crash everybody?
However, there were lots of high-polygon avatars there, which grinded the frame rate down to halt; especially when minimum visibility had been set as high as 60 m in some worlds. Maybe they should only allow 3 entries per artist to keep the avatar list length reasonable? And I couldn't resize my window larger, because there were hundreds of textures and pictures there, some pretty big, filling up the video card's memory (my card is GeForce2 GTS 32 MB). Derrrr I resent that remark! ;) Tied into AW yes, but if you mean AWC,
I don't see how I am close to them, except for being a Gatekeeper, in which capacity I had Mountain Myst as my team leader eons ago. I think I got the beta because I always showed up at TechTalk - which was because I wanted to log them - and wasn't usually bothering Roland - which was because it was after midnight for me so I was half asleep. I never asked to be a closed beta tester so it was a nice surprise. Well, nice to hear that they are planning go beta soon. -- Mauz http://mauz.info >:|Jun 18, 2002, 2:00pm
