Neat, it seems to be because of rw-gpwir.rwx. It doesn't crash 3.1.
And it works fine when losing the translates etc with RWXmod.

Because she might believe its more stable or something, does it matter? If it crashes on my
system too then its not because of the OS causing it.

It's more stable than any other general consumer Windows release. The
stability has gotten worse and worse. XP has turned that around though.

You must have forgotten NT/2k. The NT kernel be far is the most stable
Windows OS.

XP is just out the door, so its bound to have some problems. It is to a
large extent build on the bones of NT (no matter what the ads say).
Since MS is already announcing de-support dates for the older versions of
Windows... XP will by fiat be more stable at some point in time.
I wouldn't rush to upgrade unless you have a particular requirement though.
Wait for the .1 release if you can.
I emailed a KERNEL32.DLL error log entry to Mauz since the beta group is
closed to ordinary users. Didn't seem right to post it here.

yes, but it is *OUT* of the door, it's final (well, supposed to, but MS will
probably release a few thousand "updates"), you don't change it. I've heard
that XP isn't all that good...

I'm not planning on upgrading, in any case. I can live with Windows
crashing on me a couple times a week. And strangely enough, I have Windows
ME, and its more stable for me than Windows 98 was. ^_^

I would be slightly worried by someone using Windows 95 also. But I guess,
its useful on the AW Beta since I doubt many people are still on W95.
As long as you are aware that Windows 95 is only a stable operating system
upto 500MHz. Unless a patch is installed, but I have no idea where that
patch is nowday.
95 is pretty stable tho, but only on slower machines. If you have a faster
computer, NT/2K is best. NT for the non gamers / D3D users, 2K for the
gamers. XP is looking good, seems very stable, even Visual Studio 6 ran ok
on my copy (RC2). Looks hopeful, but I suggest that you dont by the
professional version unless you need the extra features / complexity. Home
edition seems more than ok for most people.

I heard on the Screensavers that the only difference between the Home and
Professional version was support for dual processors. But they can't really
test that to see if there are any other new features because they don't have
a working copy of XP. ;)
