with the new add contact confirm I can see who is adding me
to their contact list. At the same time that person gets added to mine.

The "?" on the name has always annoyed me. So when that happens I delete
that
person from my contact list. Now with the new feature we have,
its even better, my name gets deleted from theirs as well :)

Yes, but while this feature is very handy, it also conflicts with the
old blocking methods from 3.6 and has somehow also conflicted with the
privacy settings. For example.. if someone chooses to block a user by
way of right clicking their name on their list and selecting "hide
status" or "block telegrams", all that the blocked user would have to do
is turn on "confirm add" and select "block user" and drop their name
from the person's contact list, then readd them to see their status and
send telegrams again. (This is considering that the person who blocked
does not have "confirm add" on)

Also, with the privacy settings in options/settings/general if you
checkmark "hide world" or "block telegrams", etc.. it only affects the
users on your contact list. Anyone else that is not on your contacts
will still be able to view your status, world, or send you telegrams.

It's a nice feature, but still a few things that need to be fixed for
those who like the old block system too.

I rarely make use of these privacy features and I certainly hope others
don't have to much either. I've also never used that question mark and agree
with Starheart that it's annoying. I don't think the point of being in AW is
being a hermit. :)

I honestly don't trust people with all the privacy features turned on.
Either you're a hermit and hate people (why are you on a social program
then!?!?) or have poor social skills and have made a huge batch of
enemies, or have poor communication skills with your friends and can't
tell them "I'm busy right now"

People tell me "I need them, I have people that harass me! I have
enemies! It's not my fault."

It's pretty hard to make enemies in AW, you have to go out and chose to
do it by being a huge jerk or over-reacting to a jerk, both poor signs
of character. I can be a bit of a jerk at times, been here almost 9
years, never had to mute, eject, or telegram block anyone, ever. It's
not luck. Crazy people harassing you doesn't "just happen".

So when I see Mr. or Mrs. "hide my world, hide my status, approve
everything, block everything", I just think, "social retard not to be
trusted"

oh yes....and I find the block and question mark handy for when I
travel...only time I use it....because I tend to use various machines across
the country, teleys get lost since like teleports they are not attached to
our cit numbers just the machine we are using at the time, so I only unblock
the few who know where I am and when I am there....saves me coming home to 4
months of outdated teleys also LOL

Wow, two totally reasonable reasons! You learn something new every day!

The best is coming on to find like 12 holiday tele's for a holiday that
isn't even heard of in your country, or celebrated on a totally
different day.

Maybe you should mass telegram about your local holidays. :D

Privacy Features:
As some of you will learn as you grow older in life, some people are
wonderful, still others are nice, and some no matter how nice you are, are
NOT nice. For these few mean people, blocking their ability to send you
harrassing telegrams or see your online status is a good feature. Why would
anyone care if someone wants to block their status or telegrams? Seems to
me its a personal choice and a good feature.

I don't believe privacy options have to do with getting older and suddenly
realizing you need to block yourself off from everyone.

Regardless though, if there are only a few mean people why not block them
only? You can set the same privacy options for individual users. Not to make
it personal but in your case Color I can tell you hide your status for
everyone as it's always been hidden for me and I don't think you have
anything against me, as far as I know. :)

Personally I've had two people add me to their contacts with ? by their
names, I don't know them well ... so why'd they request to be added to my
contacts if they don't want me to know they're online ... sorta redundant
now, since they don't have to have me on their contacts to begin with. I've
deleted them both. I see no point in having them in my contacts if I can't
tell if they're even online to chat with. I have no idea why they'd bother
to add me if they don't want me to know they're online LOL

That exactly my sentiment.I started this discussion with. I had one person
on my list that had a "?" and since I don't know them and I never remember
talking to them
then what is the point of me having the ? and them having me on their
contact list?
My solution is simple, I just delete them and my name is removed from
theirs.
If the want to add me again then and they give me an explanation I might
give them permission again.

Yes exactly - in 3.6 I had a terribly long contacts list and whenever I'd
scroll down to see who was online I'd always disregard the ?s as though they
were just offline. I guess if those people don't want anyone to speak with
them, that's their choice!

Hi to Lady NightHawk

I was wondering if I was one of the people You removed. I had added You a
long time back, when I was looking at avatars. I re-added you when I
switched back over to 4.1, but not with any question mark, so if it came up
with a question mark I don't know why and I guess I am doing something
wrong.

I guess I have some sort of setting wrong?

If you have the option for confirming a join request would that
automatically put a ? by your name if you added someone?

Anyway, was not intentional on my part

My story is that I used to hide everyone until 4.1 because I had several
run-ins with M a t t and my citizenship. I didn't trust anyone until the
block citizen feature came out.

I did as Starheart said and removed most that I don't really know LOL. I
figure if they wanted on my contacts they'd re-ask ... and a couple have. My
problem with this style of contacts list is that there were over 113 people
on my list, most of which requested to be added and while that is flattering
it's time consuming to go through everyone's name to find the few I actually
gram. Personally, I like to keep the number of contacts on my list within
view, meaning just enough that I don't hafta scroll down (that's currently
my preferred max).

So, all I can say is if you really, really, really gotta have me on your
list then re-add me and I'll accept (until the list gets unmanagable again).
Otherwise what I'd rather see happen is that people add me when they need
me, remove me if they don't :o} Help me keep my contacts managable LOL If
you are interested in our avs we have our contact info in SistaAVs world so
feel free to pop into GZ and get our nicks or emails from there! If you want
to order, or even talk we'd of course be happy to add you but then perhaps
when the conversations are over we can delete each other until next time ...
unless we become fast and furious friends :o} You can also find me in Aeon,
my own world.

Hugzzz to all those that poofed, it's nothing personal ... a better format
for storing contacts is what I would like to see happen ... perhaps someway
to sort your contacts into categories so you can remember who's who and why
they've/you've got em on contacts to begin with :o}

Oh and join requests have nothing to do with the ? besides someone's name
.... the ? means they don't want you to know they are even in aw. I don't
have that activated for me, although I do have to approve join requests and
usually do if I'm not afk. You were not doing anything wrong tho, and
although I remember meeting you I don't really remember when/where/etc. LOL
.... I am blonde after all ... I forget alotta stuff! Hugzzz

Well, I am not blond and I can't remember when/where etc, I just remember
speaking to You regarding Av's I think and maybe object building, not quite
sure, but no worries, I can remember Your name without it being on My list.

Have fun
