They are allowed into AW. They just can't build in AW.
So what they do instead is stay in The Gate and argue.
We try to get them to go explore, but all they want to do is build a house.
(Or kill another avatar.) hehehe

Tourists can't build anywhere without danger of getting their builds deleted
by somebody.
Plz correct me if I'm wrong and there is a world that protects tourist
builds.

If AW would designate an area for tourist building somehow, like maybe
29,000n 29,000e we might see tourists in AW more often.

I don't mean just in Alpha World.. I think they ought to be able to move
freely about in all worlds to TOUR. Not to build. If world owners should
be charged a fee then it should only be applied to tourists that want to
build. Tourists put a little chaos in the order, we realize that, and it's
enough to bring life and balance to the sterility we have about us now.

Citizens and world owners by the numbers are getting disenchanted by costs
put on them and by the lack of visitors. With the costs connected in owning
and maintaining worlds it seems there ought to be some compromise. People
see the barren surroundings, void of life and lose their interest quickly.
Should the customers go away soured by AW or just go away?

As the cost of living is rapidly on the rise { ie: oil , gas }there needs to
be some relief .

AWI, Please let us have the tourists tour freely once again.

I wrote this bot first for AWNewbie (though it seems offline).
Storage uses this bot and I regularly try to open up new building lots for tourists.
I remember a world "Tourist" wanted to use it but it seems private world now.
Other than those I have no clue which worlds are using it (except in AWEurope :).
The bot is not phoning home, so I have no track record about them.

Hence AWNewbie being a "practice" world. The guardbot is used in
AWNewbie so that tourists have a chance to test out building at their
own pace, without fear of vandals and troublemakers coming in and
destroying their builds as they are in the process of making them. As a
"practice" world, we need to clear builds in order to make room for
other users to want to try their hand at building, otherwise there
would be no room for newcomers. Let's face it-- tourists builds are
deletable, always have been, always will be-- AWI starts everyone out as
tourists for a reason, to "TEST" the program, not to give them free
access to everything, otherwise, where's the profit? Kinda like how
games have "demos", not everything is free, nor will it be in the
future, otherwise profit would not be made and it would be a tad bit
hard for AW's business or any other business to keep running.

My 2 cents ;P

Good point.

I'll see your 2 cents and raise you a nickle.
: )

But I think the point that ORB was trying to make here was tourists are
becoming a dying breed in AW.
We need to think of a way to make tourists want to come into AW again.

Tourists are still all over, the other day there were about 12-15 of
them in AWGZ, and AlphaWorld is 8 times out of 10 still the largest
visited world on the list. There will always be tourists visiting AW--
it seems sometimes that there are less of them, but AW has always had
it's phases in the amounts of visitors. One year it may be less, the
next year, many may have downloaded and visited the program.

lot of them visit on a regular basis as well.

What I am meaning is more about having the free tourism back so world owners
want to stay and keep their worlds... not necessarily about having new
people who want to buy cits. There's quite a few world owners ready to give
up their worlds. Those who get worlds rarely keep them for very long
because of the lack of visitors. Being charged extra to have tourists visit
is NOT the answer. AND AW IS PRACTICALLY BARREN OF ANYTHING REMOTELY
RESEMBLING LIFE !

When I've stayed around AWGZ, i have noticed something.
There Are tourists coming yes, but the problem is that 90% of them are
either AOL'ers (I'm not strictly talking about people who use an AOL
internet connection, just the idiotic ones) or strung-up Irate kids.
They either come to start bad mouthing a random person, flood "AW is
shit" or think they are "hardcore gangsters".
We already have Tektite, Codemaster and other kids, we don't need any
more tourists and citizens like them.

I agree whole heartedly, ORB. Tourists are a double edged sword and always
have been. There is always that small element who come only to provoke,
pillage, plunder and prank! But they are the smaller percent by far.

AW or any other business will never grow in numbers if they bounce the new
prospects at the front door! I've never understood this. There are multiple
ways to manage tourists with limited privileges, bots, and the many other
things mentioned on this thread. One school of thinking is that if tourists
are confined to a specific world to "try their hand at building" and that
world deletes monthly, then that is inspiration for the tourist to buy a
membership or even a world! And, I've seen it work!! Another point is that
I agree totally that a tourist should NOT have the right to come in here and
build to his heart's content with the guarantee that those builds will be
there forever right along with the cits who pay $70 a year for the same
privilege.

This is the saddest and most noticable to me. Not so long ago.....up until
the rule change on tourists....."world hopping" was great fun! Friends
would take off in the middle of the night and go from world to world ,
checking out new builds, techniques, commands, models, etc. And there were
some totally beautiful worlds to see!!! Where have all those builders gone?
To places where people can come in the middle of the night and admire their
new builds, techniques, commands, models, etc. World hopping these days
with a few exceptions, only leave you in world after world that has been
obviously won in bingo or some other means, or came out of allowance money
in the form of a Homepage p10! There is more abandoned JUNK, 10-20% half
assed completed worlds, and lousy hodgepodge creations in the line up of
private worlds than in all tourist builds and Alpha put together! There is
no pride, little incentive and less and less creativity in this universe
with each passing day!

Now when is someone going to get their head out of that 4.1 huddle and fix
this problem before they don't have a flippin person to impress with their
new browser??

I agree with u. Out of the 24 open worlds starting with the letters W, X, Y
and Z, I only saw maybe 3 worlds that had anything in it other than junk,
or just a GZ or little black triangles. Not fun world hopping when thats all
there is to see. Ppl just dont seem to take pride in their worlds anymore
probably because no one goes to see them. I guess if most of what u see in
most worlds is crap no one wants to world hop anymore. As far as I'm
concerned there is only a hand full of worlds worth looking at. Maybe 2
handfulls but thats a small amount out of 400+ open worlds here and about 58
of those r X rated. Some worlds only have a piece of road in it thats been
there for a few years. People might take more pride if the worlds were open
to tourists and getting visitors. I have 1 world tourist enabled and it gets
10 to 14 visitors a day and my other ones get maybe 2 a day.
