When one needs or desires to work on something for a while without being
disturbed and having their concentration ruined and their perhaps limited
time eaten up, it is most difficult to pull off. If you take an alternate
cit (a hider), sooner or later you screw up and telegram someone without
thinking and blow your own cover! (guilty) If you put up AFK...yet you are
spotted in your world you receive grams telling you your AFK is on and you
must not know it O_O ! If you don't answer your grams and think you will get
to them later........half the people think you are busy, the other half
think they are being snubbed and get ticked. Annnnnnd, if you use the
infamous ? beside your name, you lose half your friends and an
unbelievable number of ? begin to show up on your own contact list. Last,
but definitely not least, if you use the 'block telegram' feature, people
assume they have been singled out, that you are mad at them and they never
want to speak to you again. The current statement that you are not accepting
grams at this time sounds simply.....rude.

It would be sooooooooo nice if some alternatives were added to the choices,
much like the ones on an IM proggie. Busy, Working, Out to Lunch,
etc........or my favorite would be one that would say you were not accepting
grams FOR THE MOMENT but will resume in X number of minutes or hours.

Would this be so difficult??

OOPS! Methinks Idun has been busy at work on the upcoming Valentine's Day
hunt much to hard! lol We all know there aren't 30 days in February, so it
won't be any surprise when I say the AresBot Bingo will be played tomorrow,

It's a hit! They're dancin' and clicking the day away :) All seem to be
having a great time at AresBot Bingo in Elvandor. Thanks Ares for the time
and work invested to provide us with the Sunday bingo we have so sorely
missed! It's a great bot and yeah, folks.......great company! Idun is doing
a terrific job running the game and I'll chake her hand anyday! LOL

Many of us depend heavily on PayPal for online purchases and payments. Today
I received not one, but two fraudulent emails complete with the PayPal logo
and all their contact and security info. The give away was that I also
received one on another account never associated with PayPal. I contacted
PayPal and was told there is currently a rash of spoof emails being sent out
in the name of PayPal. Do NOT click on any links contained in an email from
PayPal unless the salutation says Dear 'Your Account Name' NOT Dear
PayPal User or Dear PayPal Member. If the email does not address you by
your account name the email is NOT from PayPal. However, they are very legit
looking and request personal account info that could enable the thieves to
wreak havoc on your credit card or bank account. Should you receive such an
email, do NOT click! Do a simple forward of the email to spoof.paypal.com
and then delete the email. Let's be careful out there! :)

This probably has been discussed here before, so pardon me .....but I
haven't been around here that long. Why is there a limit of 62 terrain
texture choices? Can the browser not handle more? If you own multiple
worlds with different themes, but only one path, it's very difficult to be
creative with those limitations. Any chance that number will be increased in
the near future??

areas of the world? Do you even know the meaning of conservation, suffering
or sacrifice? Or are those words too big for you? I have NEVER seen you
post anything in the NG's that warranted any value. Talk about waste! I have
yet to figure out if you are 16 or 61 , but you are either a kid who hasn't
grown a brain yet or a demented elder. In either case, you should have your
keyboard locked up when nobody is home to watch you!!!

Good on ya, Callidus and Jim1 and all others who are trying to get the
message out that these people need help!! Shy of a miracle things are
looking really bad for them.

about this incident, but I would suggest before any more unsolicited
comments are made, certain people clean their own house before stirring

before, the citizen told me that they had remembered the 2 letters in the
middle of the password and how many characters long it was. I retrieved the
model, and extrapolated the password using Calcathean formulae and found out
the citizen's story to be true. The correct letters were in the correct
placement in the password and the password was indeed the noted number of
characters long. I uploaded the model to the citizen's object path which was
piggybacked onto another citizens ftp. Some weeks later it came to me that
the model was not in fact downloaded from a free website but rather a site
that has copyright to the model. I have apologized to the owner of the ftp
who had granted me full rights to the ftp to upload the model. I have
contacted the school that the model was downloaded from. The owner's
"second-in-command" was made aware and signified knowledge of the item at
the time of me becoming aware of the copyright but as I also, was too busy
to approach anyone else beyone that about the matter.

Through a conglomeration of unfortunate events, I had made a decision that
was of poor judgement, and I apologize to anyone that this may have
affected. I do not condone behavior like this nor will i ever be caught up

I am no longer in the business of selling my models thanks to the persistent
remarks from one person here through the ngs. I have bit my lip until
yesterday. I have donated thousand in models to many different events, as
free giveaways, as donations to poor citizens.....yet all I'm remembered for
is my one day of poor judgement. It is now nearly 6 months later and only 3
people have come to me and asked what happened and only one person has
bought any models. They'd rather listen to these God foresaken newsgroups. I
was hoping the owner would get the message after yesterday's post but of
course, they made a remark about stealing models anyways.

Isn't it funny how the owner of the ftp suffered no loss, as didn't the
copyright owner, who, by the way, understands what happened, and I have lost
thousands in sales? Who shall be culpable here?

What in the world is happening to people? I think too many have spent far
too much time sitting on their brains pretending they are great creators of
great things.
First of all, the attitude as expressed by Ry says it all. It appears the
real heart of AW - cits who really had a dedication to "community" have all
taken up residence elsewhere or are packing up as we read. Those left behind
who spend endless hours posting one line bits of trash are about as
dedicated to AW as a community as a rock! And Lioness, you make good points.
But what makes everyone think the only potential cits are standing at the
gate?? The NG's are on AW's website. Any Joe or Jane out surfing can click
the drop down boxes out of curiosity and read NG's. Now THAT's what I call
good advertising!
I suggest that Community in the NG's go the way of General Discussion and
disappear. If you people want to slam dunk each other and use language
normally reserved for Mable's Fifth Street Bar and Grill, then create a
private forum and invite a few thousand of your closest friends! NGs should
be used for events, announcements, building tips, bot info and all things
good.
A final note on all things good. We just lost the most caring, dedicated,
talented modeler this uni or any other has known for the last several years.
THAT is a tragedy. See, this person not only was talented, caring and
dedicated....but knew their strengths and weaknesses. I guess their stomach
was just too weak for this kind of garbage. The dozens of modeler wannabes
that keep throwing daggers at others and sounding their own horns (lest they
not be sounded) are just that.....they WANT to be!! News flash
guys.......you aren't there yet! It takes years of learning, experimenting
and perfecting to even get close to the level of the more well known and
respected modelers in here. I'm not naming names........I know who they are
and so does everyone else. And you can count them on one hand! So save your
time.....and energy if you want to be called modeler and apply it to your
endeavor instead of popping off in here or attacking at the Gate. In the
meantime, if anyone wants to donate their work as a freebie....great! Then
no one has to worry about whether it's done, redone, or undone! When you
have a few year's experience under your belt and can acutally produce a
model of YOUR OWN that doesn't stop a freight train at 400 yards from lag,
then come back and see us! ENZO.....please rethink News Groups as they now
exist!!

Having been away from NG's for a little while, I peeked in to see if there
might be some news in here about any VR friends who may be affected by the
devastation on the Gulf Coast. I see one inquiry, no answers and no
discussion.

Is this because all are riveted to their TV sets? Because all are weary of
the 24/7 coverage? Or is it that it's all so overwhelming there is simply
nothing to say?

It's a bit like not talking about the huge purple dinosaur in your living
room! You KNOW everyone is thinking about it.....but no one says a word. So
please indulge me while I ask.....

Would you send a contribution to the American Red Cross or the relief agency
of your choice today? Would you take just 60 seconds of your busy day and
say a prayer or meditate on the heart wrenching circumstances one other
person might be in for that moment? Is there anything that we, as a
"community", albeit virtually real, might do to help?

Could we have a discussion thread on this, please? I have 3 VR friends who
lived in New Orleans. I have no idea where they are, how they fared or even
if they are still alive. Sometimes......discussion can be the most
supportive tool we have :)

I have a friend who cannot hear mp3's in here, and wavs. But never a midi.
We have gone over her settings and they are all correct. Downloads, etc all
have the proper setting. Does anyone know why midis would be excluded? She
can hear midis from her own sound files. Just not in AW. Help !!

I agree whole heartedly, ORB. Tourists are a double edged sword and always
have been. There is always that small element who come only to provoke,
pillage, plunder and prank! But they are the smaller percent by far.

AW or any other business will never grow in numbers if they bounce the new
prospects at the front door! I've never understood this. There are multiple
ways to manage tourists with limited privileges, bots, and the many other
things mentioned on this thread. One school of thinking is that if tourists
are confined to a specific world to "try their hand at building" and that
world deletes monthly, then that is inspiration for the tourist to buy a
membership or even a world! And, I've seen it work!! Another point is that
I agree totally that a tourist should NOT have the right to come in here and
build to his heart's content with the guarantee that those builds will be
there forever right along with the cits who pay $70 a year for the same
privilege.

This is the saddest and most noticable to me. Not so long ago.....up until
the rule change on tourists....."world hopping" was great fun! Friends
would take off in the middle of the night and go from world to world ,
checking out new builds, techniques, commands, models, etc. And there were
some totally beautiful worlds to see!!! Where have all those builders gone?
To places where people can come in the middle of the night and admire their
new builds, techniques, commands, models, etc. World hopping these days
with a few exceptions, only leave you in world after world that has been
obviously won in bingo or some other means, or came out of allowance money
in the form of a Homepage p10! There is more abandoned JUNK, 10-20% half
assed completed worlds, and lousy hodgepodge creations in the line up of
private worlds than in all tourist builds and Alpha put together! There is
no pride, little incentive and less and less creativity in this universe
with each passing day!

Now when is someone going to get their head out of that 4.1 huddle and fix
this problem before they don't have a flippin person to impress with their
new browser??

There are a number of excellent avatar makers here in AW, all of whom are
capable of making and DO make themed avs. You can find them easily on the
world list. The word "avatar" or "objects" in the world name is usually a
dead give away. They all do this for money. I'm assuming you are going to
use money? For if you are looking for another "donation", your best bet is
to pick up what you can in Object'd or MegaPath :)) Good luck !! :))

It expired the third week of November. I talked to JP today and we are
checking to see if the owner wants to renew and if the world would have a
host. I paid for the renewal in 2003. Lady Aleena paid for it in 2004. For
everyone who has taken models and not given it a thought, that was a private
world and the models were donations of work, time and money from your fellow
citizens. It was renewed by caring people and hosted by a benevolent host. A
sign has been in that world since day one only "asking" that people donate
if they chose to and only if they had some extra cash.

I would say now is the time to step forward. I will know by tomorrow
afternoon if the world is renewable and if it has a host. I'll post again at
that time. But if everyone wants free models.......see if you can't cough up
a dollar or two, please?? Thanks!! :))

assist. This is all great news. I dropped the ball on Friday due to my real
life schedule and failed to call JP before he left for the day. :( I'll
check in the morning to see if he was able to reach Drac - and yes, Count
Dracula was the founder, owner and primary supplier of goods for the world
Freebies. The OP may be a problem, unless he is willing to keep it
available as he was hosting that himself. It's good to see such a positive
response and just maybe Drac will peek in on the NG's and see that his work
WAS appreciated! We can hope :))

heheh Watch that sugar! It'll get you into trouble everytime :) I have
two suggestions. One, maybe you would want to open a new thread announcing
the opening of your world, since this one is so old and some have given up
on it. Also open a thread in World Builders. The other thing is
this......there were sections of Freebies set aside for specific modelers'
donations with their name. The bulk by far of the contents of Freebies was
made up of 3d models taken from sites such as 3ds sites, amazing 3d, 3dmax,
etc, which Drac then converted to rwx. There are many here in AW who are
capable of coverting or retexturing who maybe aren't people who design and
produce their own models. They may be a source of help to you. At any rate,
'tis a goodhearted thing you are taking on and I wish you the best in your
endeavor! :))
