The creation of a new Public World

Aug 24, 2003, 8:13pm
With the advent of ver 3, we have seen more and more 'World builders'
features added. As yet, AWI has only tested a beta ver of the 'new'
features in a world that would be open to the general public; that world
is now closed. [NewAW]

This may well be the best time for those at AWI to pause, hear from the
Citizens, and hear what they would like to see of the 'world building'
features added to the Citizen builder's toolbox.

My 2 cents ...

On NewAw, the beta world that was 'looked at' by the then beta team,
made use of a bot to oversee many things and AWI kept track of how long
you were inworld and involved. Bots has been one of the better things
that AWI added to the interface we have with the environment.

Proposed ...

The first Citizen designed world

Being that AWI can tell when one is being actively part of the
community, either through chatting or building, and as such, could then
be the banker of 'Community Time' (CT), those who do more, such as those
who teach, PK, GK, Beta, oversee Community Groups, or OldTimers, etc.,
would receive CT+ for giving more of their time to enhance the
experience. With this in place, a monetary system could come into play,
and maybe a few more ppl would become part of the active community
[NewAW had/has this].

On becoming a Citizen, they would be given an allotment of 'land' and CT
to get you started with building. If you don't build {explore should be
viewed as part of building) or chat, then what are you doing here!
NewAW had/has this, but gave you CT on account, 'sold' you a lot and
had you pay for each object used in your 'build.'

As a Citizen becomes involved with the Community, they would gain the
means to expand their land area or move closer to a teleport 'hub'
(thereby reducing the time someone has to spend walking to your lot).
Maybe the Citizen can 'buy' such things as tee shirts and time
extensions to citizenship, or world(s) ... or an 'accent piece'. The
list of things that CT could be used for is more than I can spend time
listing .... If I did, you would find something else that one can trade
for CT's. Bot/s can be set to control 'local' teleporting [NewAW had/has
this].

Then, AWI could create a world, seed it with teleport stations, building
roads connecting the teleport hubs 'to the compass,' and then create
'lots' around the AWI Hub. (Lots being smaller near the hub and larger
as developed out. Lots closer to the hub costing more CT's than those
farther away.) [NewAW had/has lots of different prices].

Zones could be created allowing those with older citizenship to build
closer to the GZ and also allowing late-comers to Active Worlds with
sufficient CTs to buy building lots closer in.

Allow lot owners to work the terrain , this would allow for basements,
or ppl creating mountains. Of course ... Such things would have to be
paid for in CT's [AWTeen already does this].

AWI could use the Mega-Path for its OP, and maybe allow 'Accent Pieces'
[ZObjects], that load from other than the Mega-Path (there are already
worlds out there that have more than one OP, I am sure that some smart
coder out there could work out how to do this, and it too would cost CT's).

Communities could then build around the hubs and maybe tax themselves to
add things like parks, lakes, and other community enhancement projects.

those who abuse power, should be removed from power

I retired from the PK's ages ago, but if you believed I should have been
removed, many others thought so as well, but 'the gods' could never find
a reason that stuck. seems I was not as bad as some made me out to be :-)

as it is, this part of the thread is off subject :-)

the only thing I might recieve, if this was to be put into play, would
be a lot closer to the GZ than quite a few other ppl because I managed
to stay with the worlds for the past 6+ years. if a lot close to the GZ
mean power, then I must be missing something

objects

Apr 25, 1998, 3:22pm
there are not enough street*.rwx to do a proper devolement!! there really needs
to be more added.

street4.rwx a 'T intersection'
street5.rwx 'deadend'
street6.rwx 'curved'

it also wouldnt hurt to have a set of rails to go with the street3.rwx

btw, this is the proper NG for this type of thing, isnt it?

A few old ideas

Apr 26, 1998, 3:35pm
its something I asked enzo about in dec of 96, to him, then, the concept was new.
maybe when we get to ver 3.0, it will happen.

m0e

[View Quote] > Suggested this months ago, too. I think Roland said the entire world cell structure would have to be redone. Cells aren't 10m³ cubes, but 10m x 65535m x 10m--2D, since the y-axis is the buildable distance . It should've been 3D in the first place but lots of corners were cut, as Roland keeps telling me when explaining off why things weren't done better. Until AW has TRUE 3D object manipulation, it won't entirely be a TRUE 3D application, in my view. Visibility distance is also only 2D, since AW's setting only applies on the x-z plane.

Ejection identification - Put to TOP of list

May 26, 1998, 11:09pm
having booted more ppl that I care to count, almost every one of them, if not
all, knew why. I always say why before, and hope it never comes to a boot.

to have me also say why they have left, before the eject takes effect, only
adds to the time they have on the world, to cause problems.

world owners should not have to give a reason for an eject, if they have given
this power to others, they might ask them to justify to the owners why someone
was ejected. if someone was ejected, and they dont know why, then they can ask
why, when they are able to return.
as far as I can see, this is a stupid idea. if anything, they should fix the
eject, so that when I say that someone should leave for 5 minutes, that they
cant get back in under 2 minutes!!!

m0e

[View Quote] > Absolutley. It's only fair to let someone know exactly why they were booted,

EJECT

Jun 17, 1998, 3:19pm
I wish they would fix the eject, so that when someone is ejected for
an hour, or even a week, they dont return in 3 minutes!
this would go a long ways towards handling some of the problems on
the GZ's.

EJECT

Jun 18, 1998, 4:33pm
this is also my thought, a second # enbebbed in the software, that is created
when the log on to the worlds the first time, and hard to get to/change, without
trashing the program. had we something like this when COF too over and saved the
worlds, I dont think the 'banning' issue would have ever come into being.
as for "COF have more serious problems to solve". this does seem to be the
party line, when asked to do something that should have been fixed ages ago.

AlphaWorld "Wishlist"

Mar 17, 1999, 1:13am
nice to see you are still around, and do hope your little one, and wife are
doing well :-)

as for objects :-)

a bathtub would be nice, the one on yellow might work, if placed in the proper
scale. (not that its scaled right for yellow, but that is a different story)

horizontal objects, in the 1X1 , 2X2 meter range.

a set of walls, panels, and walks, that will except a texture somewhat in the
manner of a Pict.

new brick, wood, stone, and tile textures.

the wheel !!!!!!

new furniture ( tables, chairs, bookcase, cabinets, lamps, beds......)

railing to fit the angle of stairs and street3

dead-end, 'T' intersections, and driveways, added to the street list

more snacks

this is just off the top of my head. I'm sure that if I were to really think
about it, Im could do a few pages of objects.

as it is, just having the object list updated in the help, would be of use to
the new builders :-)

thanx for lending me your ear, and I hope that I gave you a few idea as to what
could be used. some of these items are alread on the awld worlds, and need
only be place/scaled for use on aw :-)

Oct 23, 2002, 11:40am
the current mode for mailboxes is email, which predates grams.

it would be nice to have a bit of code that could be placed on a
mailbox, allowing grams to be sent to the 'box' owner, instead of having
to add them to the contact list.

not being a coder, I cant say how hard it would be, but wouldnt it be
nice to click on an object, have it open a gram window with the objects
owners name already there :-)
