teleport link from webpage // Communitym0eJul 30, 2002, 9:15pm
given that it had been ages from when I lasted updated my webpage, I
thought it time to do a bit, but to my surprise, it seems my links do not work!! well ... this was somewhat expected, given that things are now on a new server, but what really surprised me was that Mauz's link to her 'teleport site' is also not working!!! has anyone worked out the script to linking from a webpage to a location on one of the worlds?? [example of old script .... http://objects.activeworlds.com/cgi-bin/teleport.cgi?aw_7700N_7700E ] m0e dionJul 30, 2002, 10:21pm

it simply sends a text file called 'teleport.awt' that says 'teleport
[world] [coords]'. Real simple stuff. [View Quote] m0eJul 31, 2002, 12:20pm
yep, turned out that somewhere along the line, aw changed a few things, and I
had to relink it from my end. discovered this when I went to the awmapper to see how they were now doing it [View Quote] > It works. Make sure your computer file types are setup to work with it. > [View Quote] dionJul 31, 2002, 12:32pm

Strange, since my links at UTN still work, and I haven't change their
format in years. What exactly did you have to change? For me a teleport once even worked while I was not connected
to the web at all. I haven't verified it exactly yet but I made some experiments and found some strings in the program that seem to confirm this : If AW reads the URL in the internal browser window, it does not contact the web site at all, but it examins the URL and if it finds some specific strings like "teleport.cgi?", "teleport?", "objects.activeworlds.com/cgi-bin" and stuff like this, it tries to find out the coordinates from the remaining rest of the URL instead of actually accessing the web. Any Ideas on getting this to work with other browsers, IE different
Universes using the AW Software? zaphodbeeblebroxAug 1, 2002, 4:05am

It wotn work out of the box since most universi still call the file
aworld.exe and windows thinks all of em are the same file or something. dionAug 1, 2002, 4:10am
well try it using a different extension. Make a new extension called awt2
and connect that with the other universe's executable. It should work. [View Quote] |
