Nope, not paraniod at all... we have a tight enough group. I would think
that you'd be paraniod for all the people that are plotting against you
though! ;-P lol

Pretty tough to make a choice as it's comparing apples to oranges. Some are
great information sites, some individual world stuff, and others are free
objects. They are all great IMHO.

I'm not dead, just not reading this NG much anymore. Unfortunately, it has
very little to contribute to the community like it used to.

Dear Diary,
Alas, it's been a long time since I've written. Things have been so busy
around here. Alpha keeps asking to borrow clothes but isn't returning them.
I gave her some of my 'special' tea and while she was busy hallucinating I
snuck into her camp and got my things back. I also took her only copy of
Vogue magazine but made sure it looked like Nornny took it. A subscription
card fell out of the magazine when I picked it up so I left it conspicuously
on Nornny's bunk.
Nornny thinks he's invisible. Thankfully Chris spied on him and we know the
real powers behind all this. Chris and I have plans to go sabotage the
hologram machine. Little do either of them know the real powers helping me.
There's a supposed Eep machine that's creating duplicate Eep's. Rumor has it
that Nornny is in contact with the 'real' Eep. The only person in either of
these tribes that Eep would give the time of day to is me! They 'think' they
know him but they are soooo wrong. I do know him, as much or better than
most around here. If they have cloned Eep's they've made a huge mistake.
They wouldn't begin to know how to handle them and those clones will be
their downfall. The clones would end up wandering the woods saying "Twit!"
or "Drive though!" over and over after they destroyed the camps. I might
have to gather a few of the clones up if they exist and put them to my own
use. I'm sure the real Eep wouldn't mind and would probably aid in helping
me to control them. They don't know that Eep just re-stocked my frig while
no one was looking.
Kellee seems to think I'm gaining weight. Looks can be deceiving and so can
clothes. The extra 'weight' is some of my favorite clothes I'm preventing
Alpha from taking.. again! If Kellee only knew, underneath this all is a
5'10" woman that's a tan and tone 130 lbs. I'm a woman in my prime! I'm
not sure if I should approach Kellee and band together or not. Not sure
she's trustworthy since she talks of putting me in quicksand. *Note, stay
away from quicksand* Might be time for her to go. I love the new baby but
the endless crying at night is getting on my nerves and I need my beauty
sleep. This is no place for a baby anyway.
Spark, well, think it's possibly time for him to go. So young. I have 3
teenagers at home and don't need to keep dealing with his petty in-fighting.
I get enough of this at home. This 'vacation' should at least be some what
relaxing. The other night he complained that SWChris was 'looking' at him.
Jeese, kids!
SWChris looks like he's been doing a great job of spying on the other camp.
I think we need to keep him around for a bit longer. At least until he's no
longer useful. He thinks he gets me drunk and makes me pass out by spiking
my Kool-Aid. Little does he know that I'm spying on him the whole time. He's
just to young to know that a person develops a tolerance to such things with
age and the wisdom to not drink it all.
I took Tony's last copy of the NG Charter. Of course I made it look like
Spark did it. I think Tony is going to be lost for now. Without the charter
he'll wander around aimlessly. It was good he reported on the Eep clones
though. Might be useful to keep around for a few of more rounds.
Wing, alas he's going to be gone before this is over. Might just have to
vote him off first but could keep him around for a couple of weeks until
he's banished from the NG's forever. This was the greatest possible
alliance, Wing and me. We need to hurry and get Alpha removed. At least then
I won't have to keep such a close eye on my wardrobe. I might be better off
making an alliance with Alpha though. The two of us could easily take out
everyone else. She seems to think that she knows that my tribe is going be
voting me off. Little does she know that her tribe is doing the same to her.
I think I need to talk to her, and soon.
Poor Birdmike! Looks like his tribe is wanting to get rid of him. I was
shocked to find him dressed like a clown although I laughed so hard I almost
peed my pants! I left to go swimming and when I came back my fellow tribe
members had done even more terrible things to him. His tribe didn't even
come to his rescue.
Looks like Gamer played around to much with the porn hologram. Doesn't he
know he'll go blind if he keeps doing that?? Not certain whether he survived
the crash or not. Terrible, terrible things were done, at least from what
the log states. I think Leaf and him faked this whole thing and are planning
a new strategy. I found recent scraps of porn magazines around their camp so
I don't think they've gone to far.
Casay
P.S. Just recieved a package from Wayne. The note with it said : Instead of
using fancy store bought apparel for AW Survivor, you need the Sheena, Queen
of the Jungle, outfit. Here is is. At night the D'rak'na (sp??) look is
very good for stalking and disemboweling members of the other tribe. ;)
Hope this helps,
Wayne

Jun 29, 2001, 8:18pm
No, it wouldn't let me post since I wasn't 'logged' in. There was the first
one in the outbox. I changed settings so it would ask me for password and
did another reply. The 'old' one was still in the outbox and it sent before
I grabbed it outta there. Sigh..

So give him a chance alright already... at least he posted a few times and
he really shared info in his posts. I for one am pleased. I'd think you'd be
very happy that they are seeming to really pay attention to getting the
software rendering and versions all in same browser and looking at not
screwing up with backwards compatibility again. Once they get that done I'm
hoping that many of the features we'd like to see will come true! *fingers

Uh hum.... Since when/shouldn't AW be for corporations? I sure hope it is!
There used to be and I *think* still are several corporations using it. I
was involved in developing a world for a very large corporation once. What
about Universities and other schools that use networks? Sure, some have
their own Uniservers but the $$ for them go into the virtual pot of
development.
Lets see here, software rendering support = more corporations & individual
people involved and able to use it = more $$ for AW = more employess (
hopefully programmers) = faster/better development overall. Yes, that
includes corporations that make games too! Sure would be nice to have that
ActiveX control type browser developed with all the new "3D" web page
environments. 3D is in quotes because they don't fit what I feel is 3D
internet. Call me spoiled.. lol
*Envisions going to work virtually someday and having meetings and such in
an AW enviroment as opposed to MS Netmeeting as I have in the past. *Newest
addition to wish list... a white board* ;-)
*waves at Eep... gotta luv me!*

It wasn't off topic, at least I don't think. I think the post had to do with
a thread that ws in here before about all of this and someone complaining
against AW for taking away citizenships. I for one am glad the truth of the
matter came out since Facter rightlfully didn't expalin it before.

Said to my self that I wasn't going to post in this NG again since it's
reached new lows but I feel the need to respond to the custom avatar issue
that was brought up by Rick.
He stated - . One such idea is "custom avatars", they refer to this as
"simple". I assume this must come from a very high level programmer for it
to be "easy". Does this show the level of misconception and naivete we are
supposed to expect?
Dear Rick,
On several occasions, over several years I have discussed the
capabilities/possibility of custom avatars with Ron, Roland and Hamfon. None
ever said it would be 'easy'. I believe all have told me that it is
possible. I've always felt that the best solution to adding custom avatars
would be to add a path within the browser to some folder on AW's server that
would contain the avatars and seqs. I've also suggested several times that
AW charge a small extra fee for people to be able to have their avatars/seqs
on that server to help pay for the server space and the person to maintain
it. Of course security would have to be the highest.
A world option would need to be added so that world owners could set whether
they allow custom avatars to be used or not. I personally feel that AW
should made privacy, removal of the green checkmark, and custom avatars one
of their top priorities. Years ago Blaxxun added the capability to have
custom avatars as their browser would allow downloads of them from various
sites. Now Atmosphere ( although I don't think it comes close to comparing
to AW, had that ability too. I do not understand why AW has not added the
capability for custom avatars. People within a community need something
tangible to identify with. That's what keeps them coming back. Custom
avatars would help in that area a lot.
I don't feel that I'm under any 'misconception' as to the overall issue
here. I'm also far from naiveté when it comes to AW. I do honestly feel
that the reason we still have the green checkmark and no custom avatars is
because the company hasn't made them a priority issue. Please correct me if
I'm wrong but I've been asking about these same issues for years and I've
been told it IS possible.
Thanks for you time and looking forward to a reply,
Sincerely,
Casay

Yes, I've brought it up in Tech talk several times as has others. I'm sure
there's logs of it.

specifiy what sequences it uses? How and where does it get cached?
Have the avatars, seqs, and textures all on 1 server. Charge small fee for
people to have their custom avatars placed there. Make a new cache file in
the browser. Yes, possibly a new avatars.dat file would have to be generated
for each avatar but put a size limit on the dat file. 1 avatar could have
say 10 actions period. Also have total sum limit of seq files themselves.
> Encrypted Transmission from Roland, sent Tue Aug 7, 2001 4:55 PM:
> How do you prevent other people from stealing it? How do you prevent
people from using avatars that are too large...both in terms of file size,
physical size, and polygon/vertex limits, textures, etc? How do you
determine what those limits should be?
>
Have them on the same sever with as much security as is possible. We can't
prevent people from stealing objects now as it is. Limit the avatar file
size, limit the seq file sizes, limit total amount of texture file sizes.
Have a way for people to test compatibility within the browser to prevent
crashing. Some kind of testing program like rwxmod ( or the long awaited
program Shamus is/has created.) Physical size limits - allow only humannoid
and animal style avatars scaled to size to start with. Possibly have scale
as large as a car. Blaxxun had scale size limits I believe but I may be
wrong. Determining limits can't be that hard and seems a bad excuse for not
implementing it. Jeese, we worked with a 64 vert limit for years. If you
want my .02 I think a 1200 -1500 vert limit for avatars would be very
reasonable. I think MyTwoKeys avatar, Summer, was right around 2000 verts
and that was one of the most detailed avatars of it's day and still is
today. 5 textures on an avatar , high rez, 256x256 at ~192Kbytes each =
960Kbytes ( so round it off to 1000)
So, there ya go Roland, the same answers we've been giving you for years and
the same solutions you've had that I know of. I know you've been thinking
about it for a long time and wouldn't be suprized if you basically have it
all figured out by now. I do realize that you're going to have to do some
changes within the browser programming. Yes, it will take time.
Bottom line here..... Time is what you need I think. Time from Rick and JP
to allow you to take the time to figure this out and implement it in the
code.

I can't disagree with the potential for bandwidth wasting and/or abuse of
custom avatars. That's one reason why it needs to be a world option so the
world owner can decide if they want to allow them or not. It's also a reason
to have file size limits for the avatars and textures.
As far as semi- custom avatars go there used to be a program called Avatar
Maker that allowed you to do what you're asking to do. You could create your
avatar, tall, fat, thin, short, various hair styles etc. It did have various
accessories you could have including glasses, hats, and other things. You
could even use your own picture on the face and control the level of detail
( verts) . The down side was getting it into rwx or cob format although it
could be done. It would be great if AW or someone re-developed this for our
use since they are no longer in buisiness. Whether custom or semi-custom
avatars the whole idea is individuality.
Although some downloading would be saved if all the avatars used the same
seqs the overall savings wouldn't be much more significant than custom
avatars. Each type of avatar would still have to be individually downloaded.
Again, no overall size savings if custom avatars sizes were limited. I do
agree 100% with what Rick said about getting the browers into 1 version
before adding any significant new changes to it.

Hello Enzo,
Thank you for responding to my letter here in the NG. This is the best
public information I've ever seen concerning AW, it's direction, software
development & the future in years. I agree 100% that getting AW back into
one version has to be the top priority before other features are added. Yes,
many of us have experienced the problems that have developed over time due
to backwards compatibility.
Again, I'm very pleased that you wrote such a sincere an open letter
explaining why things are being done the way they are. I hope it helps all
of us to clear up a lot of the mis-conceptions that we had ( including me )
about the direction of AW. Looking forward to 3.2 and beyond!
Casay
PS - Please don't be a stranger in here. You've accomplished a lot to help
bring the community back around with just a couple of postings. Thanks
