Cheers HF,
Yeah its a hard job to do and I respect that- my only gripe is that many find it insulting to be warned like little kiddies the whole time, many at AWGZ are usually regulars who come to have fun and chat and do not like to have someone sayin oh youd better watch out cos you know what you are sayin might turn into a guideline problem... Maybe I was overly harsh as PK61 does a great job and is a really nice guy, I was prolly using it as more of an example.. It wasnt purely Michael Jackson that was the issue- we arnt all kids here and I personally find it a bit of an insult of intellegence to be warned the whole time about this and having been here for a whiel and I know how to talk about things sensibly as do the other people who I converse with- its pretty obvious usually from the way the conversations head if ya sit back and listen... theres a time n place for everything.. I dont think anyone mentioned "talkin nasty" BinaryBud... seems a bit plucked from thin air that.. I dont think anyone here would want AWGZ to end up like that and it isnt like that usually either I am glad to say as most people there know how to talk about things sensibly- and most PK's are really easy going and chilled in my experience, but you simply cant avoid a subject in this life if its a bit hard or might offend someone... How do you progress? If you cant talk about something respectfully like this matter, then it is usually very evident and then action should be taken obviously. [View Quote] Thanks Stacee!Mar 26, 2005, 7:35pm
Over the past few weeks- and as mentioned in a previous post, AWGZ has been
cleaned up to look nice n tidy- I just wanted to say it was great to see Stacee working with AW cits to get the job done recenty, was cool to have contact with someone who works for AW and listened to its Cits to get the job done.. nice one Stacee/AW ;) GO PKs!!Mar 29, 2005, 5:28am
This is indeed a serious matter for the community if this is so.
It underlies some allegedly substanional abuses in power and indeed a full explanation should be called for by yourself Duskbat for the exact reasons as to your eject and especially to such an over the top extent. As a community we should be asking if this is true- what will stop this from further actions against other citezens? Allegedly being ejecting from your own builds in alphaworld? Seems a bit extreme and smells funny to me... I have viewed you previous comments in the news groups against Class 3- it would seem to point towards a personal vendetta in light of recent events having witnessed the presence of Belfalest and Class 3 at your Outpost recently making various implications and remarks- both of whom implied you were being watched and was meant to be a visit to "let you know whos boss" in my oppinion- although unfourtuantly i do not have the Bot chat log saved to prove it. Although ofcourse this has all been implied, the fact still remains there is a serious problem here if a substantional explanation is not given. The reputaion of the PK core and the way in which it works I would suggest relies upon its Citezens to work together and to bring together a community with the peace keeping function they should and so often do provide to a very high standard. I am sure if the eject is not explained or removed wihtout good reasons being given then it will not do the core or aw any favours with respects to citezens relations and this is not benificiary to anyone. Actions have consequences- and if there is a reason for your eject you should be told- it is a purely blatent form of logic that subscribes too the idea that in the future- you will know what you did wrong and not do it again. Be an idea to sort this one out chaps and chapesses before any real damage is done. The Heretik. [View Quote] GO PKs!!Mar 29, 2005, 6:38pm
Ah point taken, I misunderstood on that F; although my Bot was there when
Class 3 and Belfalest came to the outpost in Bold and hung around long enough to make vieled implications, which is not in my oppinion what the PeaceKeepers should be about, indeed if it was a personal matter between Class3 and Duskbat, Class 3 as a memeber of the PeaceKeepers should be able to deal with it him/herself and aviod a situation where by it seems as if the Citezen is being "Ganged up upon" by more than one PK. I have actually witnessed Belfalest and Class 3 together before using this tactic, safety in numbers it would seem. It takes two Peacekeepers to deal with the mighty Duskbat? LOL *Rolls eyes as wide as they will go* Begs the question involving a lightbulb that one.... How embarressing :P Im not even going to go into all the implications of that, kinda sad though.. Anyways... If this is a personal vendetta that is being played out here then as a community we should be gramming these people to find out why this is actually happening.. I would suggest 5-10 grams each from everybody :P They could be just blank grams... Indeed we do only have Duskbats word that Class 3 "wants to rape him with a fish" or is a "homosexual", (shame we do not have the grams to prove it either way) -but this is far from the point and something smells, so I would urge for the sake of the community's stability and in the interests of AW, that Duskbat, a longtime citezen and paying memember is given a decent explanation. The Cores silence on this matter will only cause fuel eruptions within the community and serve to cause more distrust in my experience if my observations of preivious miscalculations are duplicated. Actions have consequences. We should have the same innocent til proven guilty approach here as we do in any civilised world, not meat out punishment in a Tolertarian unexplained random manner as here in AW as it would appear to be done in this case. This matter is already embarressing, I do hope it is sorted out duely. Heretik. [View Quote] PK TrainingMar 30, 2005, 4:25pm
Good on you DaBean and good luck.
New blood would be good in the PK core; would be good to restore the respect they really do deserve- shame the recent problems have only managed to upset thier position, will probably even make thier jobs harder - I still stick with saying in general I have had excellent experiences when I have had any problems, does make me raise an eyebrow when situations arise as wiht Duskbat though. I am sure those involved will be dealt with in time though ;) ....infact I am certain... ;)) Good Luck DaBean!! [View Quote] PK Guidelines broken by CoreMar 30, 2005, 7:29pm
Was a bold move and one to be respected I would say, Belfalest asked Dusk if
he wanted to talk in Public about it and he did, the PK core listened and took note of the community and wanted to explain some. Wasnt that what we had been calling for in a way in the previous newsgroup posts? I am still uncertain of what exactly went on and wether or not such a harsh eject was really nessasary, but apparently a vote was made by the core to eject him for a week... Seems a bit hard to tell what he is really meant to have done.. a combination of things that all added up?? Was a step in the right direction though... [View Quote] We Need a Court SystemMar 31, 2005, 11:07am
Lol- HF's ya got a point-
In any civilised society there is a judicial system which serves to protect the community, the citezens and the law enforcers (for want of a better word). In situations like Duskbats, a hearing could take place involving impatial Cits aswell as the Keepers or something... might seem stupid to take things to this sort of extreme in VR, but it would be an interesting a progression in manyways.. As HF makes the point- Duskbat is a paying customer of ActiveWorlds, and despite all the disclaimers- customers do have rights in many ways, be interesting to see how far legally in RL one could take this sort of matter Lol.- Yep HF your right- Lawsuits can get on a bandwagon- could it be not too far in the future people are sueing for alledged violations of thier Virtual Lives? Interestnig thought lol AW does have disclaimers in place- and a lot of internet companies in this field are pretty much unregulated at present, though there are still basic requirements for any company legally to supply a certain ammount of responsibilty to its customers, and I am sure it could be argued in a court in some way or form if one really had the time and tnasity and bloody mindness to make a point lol- could have interesting outcomes... not my idea of fun though :P Indeed it seems so easy to sue these days for practically anything... and if mentioning Michael Jackson is seen as problematic, wait until the RL legal world touches VR lol -ofcourse if it ever really happens...Interesting paradox though huh? Dunno if its that practicle, but it would be neat in a way to have a 3rd impartial cit or cit/s involved in the sort of decision that has been made for in the example of Duskbat- as anything that encourages the involvement of the core and cits workin together can do nothing but further understanding of how and why things should work- and ofcourse highlight the bits that dont and sort em out.. But at the end of the day.. we're all here for fun and it shouldnt be nessasary!!! *picks up a pinch of salt* Personally- if I pay for a service which has guidelines, Ill try and stick to em, though I certainly do think anyone should have the chance to respond to any accusations, instead of some secret ballot taking place and then justice being meated out. And as in any society/community there should be room for progression, all these rules of the core were written a long time ago now it would seem.. maybe they are in need of a facelift? This is the 21st century :) "Workin towards a better VR" :P Heretik. Im off ta build something cool, Peace out. [View Quote] ...Stop...Mar 31, 2005, 6:43pm
As a PK yourself Ryan;
You should take into consideration and be aware of the way the community feels on certain issues and take them seriously- otherwise the community and people you serve might not take you seriously- and with due reason. You are indeed here to serve us and keep the peace for "the greater good"- not aggrivate situations (as you probably have just done now) or cause discourse to the community. See it as a form of constructuve critisism- to be good at something you need to be its and your own fiercist critic- indeed a lot of good ideas of how to progress this community have already been suggested- your dismissal of the way people feel and thoughts on situations only serves to highlight a certain ignorance which in my oppinion, the PK core can do without! Should we just accept that we should have bad eggs in a position of power doing "corrupt" things in community and tolerate them? If this is actually the case. Oh .. hang on.. what was it that happened to Duskbat? Was he deemed a bad egg and thown out?? Why shouldnt we make these observations and try to make sure these bad eggs are weeded out if they exist and not try to improve things? Personally I wouldnt have said that and it is interesting as a PK you even suggest that there are bad eggs in the core... might not be seen as professional that... might even upset a few of your colleuges... Just my 10 cents thrown in as per usual :P [View Quote] ...Stop...Mar 31, 2005, 7:25pm

Welcome back TechnoZeus and greetings :)
Agreed the community forum should be a place to discuss ways to move things forward and the fun things in the community, maybe with the help of people like yourself we could turn it around? How long have you been away incidently? :) Seems a shame to dismiss this as it could be a potential useful tool for everyone here.. Hope to see you around :) Cheers :) [View Quote] FlyingApr 1, 2005, 5:12pm

Shadows right, from my experiences of Seiya Im not supprised- it all gets a
bit freaky when someone approaches you as a 16yr old girl askin you to be thier internet boyfriend when youve known them previously as someone whos supposedly 22, a bit sick if you ask me.. although didnt take long to suss out - and also trying to steal friends identidies by making others think that they were Seiya him/herself, causing untold problems.. theres a lot I could add but cant be bothered, its been a long time coming in my oppinion and not something I really want to have to deal wiht when I come to Aw, but nether the less, good luck Seiya, hope you have learned something :) [View Quote] Leaving AW SoonApr 5, 2005, 10:57am
I agree with Callidus, Aw is an online community, you act badly in any
community you'd get the same treatment... no intention to flame here though -just substantiate the facts, which you clearly seem to know little about Lt. lol - Would you want your children mixing wiht someone who has- and as Callidus quite rightly states- a hidden agenda? Or would you prefer to be aware of it? When someone opens something like this to the community also- thier right to keep it "P R I V A T E" also diminishes somewhat wouldnt you say? ... kinda basic rules of engauegment there my friend lol... but I digress- .. maybe youve been groomed into thinking the way you do though... things can work oh so subtley here on the net.. the message is be aware ;) Cheers ;) [View Quote] FibblesApr 6, 2005, 2:24pm

Utter Chaos and irrelivence here sometimes lol.. be nice if ppl tried to
stick to the original thread's point.. or discuss it with some kinda maturity;- Anyways! Great interesting link Callidus- every little helps as they say.. by posting that link you could have made the charity a few more bucks- Its so easy to say why the hell does effect me and why should i care - but there is a bigger world out there and thirdworld countires that really can benifit from this sorta thing... So if I only have to click my mouse a few times to contribute in a small way- well Im all for it... guess the reality of the thirdworld is too difficult for some to contimplate or understand for some... ohwell.. Good on you and that company Callidus :) Cheers The Heretik. [View Quote] This is Community isn't it?Apr 11, 2005, 10:15pm

Yeah, I see what your sayin Goober- Ive seen tourists wiht names like Jack
the Ripper before and nothing was ever said to them, come on boys n girls, where will the absurdity end? Aw is a nice place full of nice people -there are people wiht names which I may not totally agree wiht- but as long as they arnt too in your face- then there is no problem surely- I dont see how TedBundy is an offensive name- a very loose interpretation of the "rules" in my mind. From what I gather everyone there were actually telling the PK in question that they were not offended. I am British and I would not be offened by someone called Jack the Ripper- its absurd to be offened in this day and age... How do these people actually survive in the real world???? I would be interested to know... Its laughable... Or do they not want to be remineded of reality when they use the internet to escape maybe? Interesting- people use AW for many reasons- but fantasy and reality have to be both taken into account for its users, some peolpe seem to have a better grasp and understanding of what reality is here I have dound- what it means to be in VR... How seriously to take it and what actually is offensive... These are the interesting times we live in, so get wise to it and be aware of life is my thought.. Progress... Aw is full of nice people and has always promoted a good community of like minded nice people- but in this case it sounds like it has been mishandled big time. I would suggest anyone offened by the name Ted Bundy should cover themselves in cotton wool and hide in a box. They will be safe there and then they no need bother the rest of us. No offense like lol Wake up and smell the coffee. What about that dude called Please Nuke USA??? Sort it out!!!!!! Maybe the codes of conduct should be reviwed to get wiht the times in respect to the PK rules... They just lost a customer as far as I can tell and that sucks.... Just my 2 cents. Cheers, The Heretik [View Quote] PeaceKeepers: A Modest Proposal (rant)May 7, 2005, 5:18pm
Its a bit of a hard nut to crack really whichever way you look at it- one
thing I have noted is that AW has always has had a nice group of people and that is partly due to the way the gate is set up to help new users- hence the GK's usually play an important role in educating newbies- which is the front line of AW and should be set up to help prosective Cits to understand what its all about -as it pretty much does. But should a tourist whos curious and obviously enjoying his new surroundings slip through to AW and do nothing other than use a name of someone infamous- and is then told to change it with no really good reason.. (and as far as I can tell from lookin at the guidelines that name does not contravine any of them) - AW will loose custom and rightly so -good reasons are respected, when no satisfactory explanations are given people tend to get a bit miffed... From the chat log i saw our friend Ted seemed interested in registering.. now I do have to wonder if he registered and had the Cit name of Ted Bundy... As a paying user would anyone have told him to change his name? .. Interesting.. What about that tourist called Please Nuke USA? It is important I think though to remember these incidents do only crop up every now and again- but still.... although its kinda disappointing -it does raise some interesting issues.. A signs a good idea though- so newbies can see know what the PK Core is about (to help new and old Users should they need it) and show who is on duty- Cheers Heretik :) [View Quote] Hold Your Own Chess Tournaments HereMay 8, 2005, 8:38pm

Thanks for the post Dusk I always like to explore new places in Aw and a teleports is an excellent way of doing it- especially as I know you as a builder whos been here for a long time and is bound to have a great selection of interesting and varied teles- which is what I found when I visited there- and I might just take the chance to reitterate that I liked the spider tele, very original. I would say give it a look first and find out why it is different instead of tryin to make pointless jibes that are just detrimental and negative Rodent. Where is Hampsterville anyways? Id never heard of it before and would like to come see sometime.. Cheers :) [View Quote] Streaming MediaMay 29, 2005, 5:15pm
FRAPS is very easy to use, Camtasia can be useful in some situations
although I have run into problems gettin it to record things smoothly- but FRAPS can be easily set up and is cheap- always a bonus huh? Your films can then be stuck straight into Premeire from there and easily edited.. Havent used snagit yet... but might experiment wiht it as heard good things- Add on to Premeire called Cleaner 5 EZ is a great way to compress larger vid files of different formats for the web to varying degrees of quality. I used to use a mini DV Deck directly out the Vid card, as Chris says - itll give you a good resolution- although I have found myself favouring FRAPS's footage over that of Camtasia or direct to mini DV recodrings, but be warned though, FRAPS can take up huge ammounts of space when recording, but ya do get excellent quality recordings. The latest FRAPS V2.2.5 can be got at www.fraps.com Premiere or Final Cut Pro are good edit suites... you can get away with windows bundled rubbish though... I spose -_+ Cheers :) Heretik.
