Good evening/morning/ Afternoon. I doubt you all are interested, but a
change of pace. For you's who dont know, I am an aspiring Pilot. I have been in flight training for the bast 5 months (taking my time) and should be, if everything goes well, liscenced on May 16. My next flight, on April 11, will be my first cross country, with my instructor, and on the 11th, I do the same, but solo (on my own). I am a bit over half way complete getting the required 50 hours logged flight time, and will be flying lots more in the next month to get the last 22 hours I need. Wish me luck! ( I'll keep you all posted) this is fo rmy Private liscence, and after that I will be working on my comercial, which requires 150 hours training. Cheers! Bean! the looneyApr 1, 2005, 6:13am

Here's a little story for you DaBean. My older brother took up flying school
and I remember him going through all those things you just mentioned above. The day after he got his license he, my mother(who bless her soul was scared to death even flying in a commercial plane), my little brother and myself all went up into the air with him in some type of little prop plane similar to the ones you have shown us pictures. We flew around a bit on a perfect day but one problem...I noticed my brother was not comfortable. He seemed worried or something. There was something about him that just didn't seem right. So I asked him is everything ok? and eek... he reply's guess what, I say what, he says in a very calm voice "the flaps of this plane are not working." O NO..and if you could have seen our faces and my mother was almost ready to pass out right there and now. He says let me radio in and see what I should do. In the mean time all kinds of horrible thoughts are running through our minds. My hands were shaken and I was gripping Moms and my little brothers so tight I almost hurt them at even the thought of crashing. My mother was practically in another world as if her soul had already departed this world. So he decides he must land right away and it would be softer to land in the huge BEAN field next to the landing strip instead of the tarmac. He comes down very gently and off we go brushing with all the BEANS that some poor farmer was sure to be upset about but who cares we were alive. The plane comes to rest. This was in the country and nobody was around so my brother decides he has to get the plane back on the tarmac. If you could have seen the BEANS all over the plane. I mean it was painted green and all of us panting in relief like swoosh. We were very relieved to be on the ground. It was such an experience for us that from that day on my mother begged, pleaded and demanded my brother to never fly again. To this day he has never piloted a plane again. Yikes thats scarey! Well, Thats part of training, hgow to land
flapless.. tho I never have.. You just have to slip in.. that is fly the plane somewhat sideways to increase the drag until you are ready to land. Sounds easire said then done i'm sure.. but in crosswind landings, thats pretty well what you end up doing to keep straight (angle into the wind and fly sideways a bit). Thats quite unfortunate he never flew again, but then again that must have been a horrid experience, his first flight >.< Bean! FYI: LoL about capital BEAN throughout your story! heretikApr 1, 2005, 5:12pm
Scarey story HF, one to tell the grandchildren! lol

VERY cool, Bean!! Good luck and Godspeed.
I hope you have a better sense of direction than Lord of the Pies. He was flying world wide in a simulator. He asked me what that big open space is just East of Chicago. I told him we like to refer to it as Lake Michigan. ROFL He meant to say WEST!!! ; ) ~ TS [View Quote] |
