Get into the holiday Spirit. Bring back tourist building in Alpha World!

Dec 9, 2004, 4:49pm
No need for that, free protected tourist building is available in Tourist
World
Go to "tourist" or telegram/email me for more information or to request some
building space. Note: It would be a very nice christmas gesture if AW were
to look at my citizen project application again and accept it (or at least
talk about it properly rather than just rejecting it). I'm running out of
space!

Sheesh guys, why are you so closed-minded? Do you not realise that some of
us cannot afford to register, and thus find themselves persecuted by other
tourists and/or citizens? I have no problem with tourist builds in other
worlds being unprotected. I do however have a problem with tourist builds
being VANDALISED just for the sake of vandalism. I wouldnt have so much of
a problem if builds were completely deleted to make way for new builds, but
I feel that tourists need protection for their builds. Gawd, I'm just
trying to provide a service. What is wrong with that? I am not in breach of
any AW regulations by advertising my world, so if you have a problem with
that, it's simple. Dont visit the world if you dont like it.
Remember - tourists are people as well as you. They're equal, so treat them
as equals please.

I never said "screw alphaworld" I just said that if people wanted to build
and have their builds protected, they could come to Tourist. I've been here
for a while now, and ever since I started Tourist as a 3D homepage, I've met
nothing but opposition and people bent on destroying me. As a matter of
fact, I am seriously considering not renewing my cit/world when they run
out. Then you can just go and pick on someone else trying to help.

I must say I'm anti-sport hunting in RL. Hunting when you intend to eat
what you kill, is fine in my opinion. However, hunting just for the sport
is wrong. I have no problem with hunting worlds in VR, we must remember
that:

AW
Is
Not
Real.

Do what you like with worlds, just nothing sick.

YEAH!!

Add a function to the SDK where it can log a bot in as an actual citizen
(i.e. name/pass) and be able to access cit-specific stuff (grams, cit
settings etc). Then let all the genius programmers take it from there.

Maximum FPS

Jul 12, 2005, 12:26pm
Taken off a random website I found on Google:

"The human eye can actually see *way* past 200fps (it has been military
tested). It is a common misconception that it is much lower because of film
only being 25fps.

Film has motion blur, games (normally!) do not. 120fps can 'feel' better
than 60 despite people telling you otherwise. The issue with how many fps
the eye can percive is complex and really I think the other answer is more
what you are asking.

when you reach 10/15 fps in a fast paced game it becomings very difficult to
do anything because of the video lag you get. It is incredibly frustrating
and not desirable at all. If you can get 200fps in an empty room, you've got
a good chance of getting a decent fps in a room full of people, rockets,
gibs, etc etc."

----

There is no actual limit to the FPS the eye can see, as the eye constantly
refreshes the image it sees, pixel by pixel. This happens countless
trillions of times per second. Film is actually projected at 28 frames per
second, not 25fps. I find 48fps to be a good smooth framerate, whereas
30fps is still a bit jerky for my liking. FS2004 runs best for me at about
48-64fps.

PS: Sorry about the font size going down, something to do with the post I
pasted in here X_X

Individual avatar speed

*sigh*

In a vacuum, two objects when dropped fall at exactly the same speed,
regardless of mass. So unless you're thinking of putting wind resistance in
as well, there'd be no point adding weight. ^_^

How about a scripting language?

I'll make a more detailed explanation.

You got the main variable types:

int
char
char[]
string
string[]
bool
vector
list

OK, I'm guessing that everyone knows most of those.

List is declared like this:

list myList;

and can be used to store multiple values, e.g.=20

list myList =3D (/* note the square brackets */["String value 1" | 201 | =
"String value 2" ]); // this list holds 3 variables and can
// be accessed independently with myList.1, mylist.2, mylist.3 etc

Vectors are declared with:

vector myVector;

and assigned values like this:

myVector =3D <1,2,3>; //note the < > around the values, so that it will =
not be confused for multiple arguments when used in a method

Cell data limits would have to be removed, as there is actually no need =
for them anyway. In the action box, to declare a script you would start =
it with <?script and end with ?>. Eventually I'd like to see something =
similar to SL's object inventory, where you can create and upload =
AWScripts from an external editor.

I'm gonna post an example "vehicle" script here

<?script
// Example vehicle script
event script_start()
{
awSay("I am a vehicle. Click me to drive!");
// Constants are always blue, they can be defined by placing the =
modifier "const" before the variable declaration, e.g. "const int =
TYPE_VEHICLE"
awSetObjectType(TYPE_VEHICLE);
}
event activate()
{
awSitAvatar(<0,0,0>); // this sits the avatar in the center of the =
object. This will anchor the avatar to the object, and play the "sit" =
seq.
awTakeControls(CONTROL_DIRECTIONAL); // these controls can be one of =
a number of control values, I haven't thought of any more
awSay("Ready");
}
event control(vector control_received)
{
// Bit of explanation here. Controls generate vector values. =
Forward arrow gives <0,0,1>, backward arrow gives <0,0,-1>. Left arrow =
gives <-1,0,0> and right arrow
// gives <1,0,0>. You may have to alter these vectors depending on =
the rotation of the object. You can use your own vectors.
if(control_received.x !=3D 0) {
awRotateObject(control_received);
}
else {
awMoveObject(control_received);
}
}
?>

This script would give a very crudely controllable vehicle. If this =
isn't implemented into AW, I might make a form of this scripting engine =
in my own VR, yet to be completed =3DP

A few requests.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

------=_NextPart_000_0087_01C6201A.809D5170
Content-Type: text/plain;

OK, the differences are as follows

char[] - A character array. Contains one or more Unicode characters.

For example:

<?script
char[] stringdump;
string mystring;

char[] DumpString2Char(string toDump)
{
char[] buffer;

for(int i =3D 0;i<=3Dstrlen(mystring);i++)
{
buffer[i] =3D (char)substr(toDump, i, i);
}
return buffer;
}
stringdump =3D DumpString2Char("howdy");

?>

This now returns a character array. So instead of messing about with =
substr() and loops, all we have to do to pull up a specific char out of =
an array is:

say((string)stringdump[2]); // this says the second character in the =
string we dumped to the array earlier, in this case it would say "o"

A string array can contain multiple strings. e.g.

strarray[0] =3D "hello";
strarray[1] =3D "how";
strarray[2] =3D "are";
strarray[3] =3D "you?";

for(int i =3D 0; i <=3D 3; i++)
{
say(strarray[i]);
}

this would say "hello how are you" on multiple lines.

That's the difference between char, char[], string, and string[].

There is also C#, which uses string, string[] char and char[]. TCHAR and
CString are C++. I use C# for all my programming.

DumpString2Char() is one example of a function, similar to the .NET
ToCharArray()

No, I assure you I am perfectly within my mind.

PS: I noticed a typo in my first post, regard "deliniator" as "delimiter".
I dunno how that got there.

Dec 8, 2004, 5:49pm
Yeah, but when I see threads about AW4 I tend to go nuts and get annoyed
when they're "joke" threads. Seriously, is AW4 close to being released?

Get into the holiday Spirit. Bring back tourist building in Alpha World!

Dec 9, 2004, 4:49pm
No need for that, free protected tourist building is available in Tourist
World
Go to "tourist" or telegram/email me for more information or to request some
building space. Note: It would be a very nice christmas gesture if AW were
to look at my citizen project application again and accept it (or at least
talk about it properly rather than just rejecting it). I'm running out of
space!

Get into the holiday Spirit. Bring back tourist building in Alpha World!

Get into the holiday Spirit. Bring back tourist building in Alpha World!

AWRPG Discrimination

Dec 16, 2004, 8:34am
I agree with Rossyboy here. AWRPG is a company world, since it begins with
AW. This gives me more incentive to leave AW, permanently. I find that
AW's attitude in general is dismal, and they seem to be bent on doing
nothing else other than get money out of people. They can say that AW is
"the 3D Internet", but I've seen far better virtual worlds.
http://www.there.com for instance
I think that the reason nobody seems to be doing anything in AWRPG is
because it would be effort for no financial gain. Or, the big cheese up top
is a homophobe himself. LtBrenton signing off. Permanently.

Tourist World now closed

Dec 24, 2004, 9:26am
Due to AW being complete gits about tourist building, and the constant
deletion that happens in my world, it is no longer used for tourist
building. Just remember this - abuse it, you lose it. You abused it, you
lost it.

LtBrenton out.
