K, any suggestions? I have two puters ... the main one (mine) is a Win XP
Pro, hubby's laptop is networked via a hub (not a router yet). I have win
xp's firewall on and zonealarm pro ... not sure what to get for a
router/firewall that will allow us to share the printer and files on our own
puters. Any info would be appreciated.

As with most that want to show the skybox I have made it look like a mini
panoramic so you can see the four sides ... these are true *cubed* skyboxes
with 5 or 6 different textures that line up seamlessly. These are not
panoramics.

BTW I have the first of what I'm calling an *envirobox* in my world Aeon,
I'm testing it out and will be making more available soon. What an envirbox
will be is a skybox without the sky part. What I did was have Terragen
render the images without a sky (so it's black up there). Then I created a
mask for each. In the envirobox rwx I have put in both texture and mask. A
black sky with a black mask makes that part (where the sky would be on a
normal jpg) disappear. That done I can now use aw's sky colors! Come and
have a look. Teleport way out in the boonies of the world so you aren't
forced to d/l what you don't want.

This first envirobox was done using my own *Spirit Dawn* skybox with some
alterations. You can compare the look using the panoramic view on my website
while in my world.

Hi wt ... I did do the networking setup. What we have here now is HUB (not
router yet) to computer, modem to HUB, both of us to HUB. We will be getting
a router also. And ya, hafta install ZA on hubby's laptop (will do the free
one for his). We use to be able to share the printer when the HUB was on my
pc and we were networked where he accessed through my pc. He no longer has
to do that but also can't use the printer (which btw is connected to my pc
via usb and there is no ethernet port for it). I'm not sure what to do next.

I can't send files via awbrowser ... I can receive but not send. Can anyone
advize me on how to fix this? I'm using Win XP Pro for which TCP port 3000
is enabled for incoming and outgoing and Zonealarm Pro which has been set to
allow file transfers in aw. I'm stumped!

How odd, I tried to change that but when I logged in aw changed it back to
what it was ... I even tried leaving it blank after the next try and aw
again changed it back to what it was. Either way I still can't send. And ya,
I was on satellite and now I'm on cable ... but even on satellite it worked
for quite some time and then one of the recent upgrades it just stopped
working. So part of the time on satellite it didn't work (but for the most
it did) and now on cable it's not working. AW won't let me change that line
in INI. Thanks all for your input ... I'm still at a loss tho, unless it's
an aw bug as previously mentioned.

The directory I tried was valid ... but I'll try your suggestion next.
Someone did say in a previous thread that this was an aw bug that happens on

You can d/l my newest passion, I'm calling them *Enviroboxes* ... I have one
done, viewable in my world Aeon and downloadable there or on my website. Be
sure to check out the ReadME.txt file which tells you how to use it. I hope

Thanks! I'm sure the idea is not mine alone, I've heard that others have
attempted it ... I think I'm the first to accomplish a *clean one* (which
took me alot of trial and error and even still it has some issues) and to
offer it to others free tho LOL.

Some of the issues I've found is that it's so danged transparent that you
can actually see some of the seams that make up the box itself, and the
seams for the skybox textures (where they meet). I've overcome this in my
world Aeon by making the sky a certain color (or shades thereof) and making
the cloudlayers a certain thickness ... again, trial and error.

Still it is the first free one to my knowledge and perhaps if you ever
really wanted to use aw's sky colors with a skybox then this envirobox will
work for ya. Just keep playing around til you get it the way you want it (or
reasonably close) LOL.

Actually I didn't make the actual skybox object, I'm using megapath skybox,
I just changed to my textures and masks. I could make my own tho LOL.

Anyway, my point is I would think it would be cheaper and easier for them/us
if they got/answered emails. I'm not sure they are getting them is the
problem. I've tried gramming MM several times with no response ... she use
to be really good at replying to emails and grams so I'm thinking there is a
problem with their email server. It is way out of character for MM not to
answer, even if she's very busy she gets back to ya relatively quickly ...
or at least, she use to.

I've emailed beta at activeworlds.com to be added to the group. That was weeks
ago and I've not received a reply yet. So, either they didn't get it, or
they got it and just don't bother to reply? Even a simple auto-responder
would be nice, so at least we know they received the email? I realize it's
*special testing* now but the point is a reply that they received my email
would be nice.

AWI ... how about using email auto-responders at least?

As it turns out the squares/lines I was seeing was not from the envirobox
itself but from the cloud layer jpgs. A change of the cloud layers fixed
that. So the envirobox does a great job except the only problem would be if
you have high mtns in the E or W for which the sun will rise/set in front
(if you are using a bot to do your time of day changes). The moon would do
likewise. That of course is an aw fault, after all, they never expected
*Enviroboxes* now did they LOL. What I'll do to skirt that is take a couple
of my other skyboxes where I left E and W open down to the horizon and make
enviros out of them. Otherwise you can perhaps use the light source but just
have no sun/moon visible or have them stationary higher up or something.

The only other thing I see is that the enviro apparently doesn't have the
ability to change with the world lighting, in other words it stays the
brightness it is. So, I think, like a skybox ... I'll do a set of these so
that your bots can change from one enviro to another so it will appear to
change lighting, perhaps four times a day as with a skybox.

BTW Alex, the world attributes section in the updated bot rocks! I love
being able to change the lighting, skycolors, etc, without doing so from the
World Features tab. Great work!!!

Folks ... please, feel free to test this envirobox out if you own a world,
perhaps as a group we can make it better? I'll be making more as soon as
I've tweaked this one to my liking. Oh and thanks to Kathryn Delanuit,
FaeLinn and Elysium for their input!

I finally got Panther1403's realweather script to work in my world Aeon ...
aside from some sky color fixes I'd like to do ... this script works well
with my envirobox. I'm still testing it of course. I can only say there is
one flaw left (not of either Panther's nor mine) and that's that aw doesn't
allow the sun / moon to come up behind the envirobox ... not that aw ever
dreamed there'd be such a thing in the first place LOL. Perhaps I need to
add that to the wishlist eh? It would be nice if we could do a checkbox to
have the sun/moon/cloud layers either in front of or behind a
skybox/panoramic and now envirobox. Behind would be the better option. Other
than that this envirobox rocks, the realweather script now rocks ... Aeon
world rocks LOL. If you'd like to see this in action (enviro & weather
script) you can go to aeon GZ but be prepared for lengthy downloads, OR ...
warp out to 1000n 1000w, although you won't hear the bot doing it's 15 min
updates you will likely notice the effects and being out in the boonies
you'll be away from the d/ls.

Thank you to all those who are using this envirobox in their worlds. We've
really jumped some hurdles here and you folks are outstanding! Pyro Goddess
discovered that you could use my envirobox with an aw panoramic ... just
have both a backdrop and the envirobox in the world features, and play with
it, change the backdrop, etc, and see what you come up with. Thanks also to
AWTeen world for trying my envirobox and for the *honorable mention* from
their IO! Thanks to those that have come to visit and allowed me to
demonstrate how this works. And thanks to those that have grammed me a *your
envirobox rocks*!

I still consider this in the testing phases but it seems to be catching on
and I can see there will be more need for me to make more enviros
sooooooooooon LOL.

(June) in which you can buy 40 stock avs for $200.00 (US funds) ... there
are over 600 to choose from. I asked if this was for everyone and if he

It's a pre-made template and probably isn't made for the higher than 1024 x
768 res. Unfortunately I can't see that res so I dunno what to fix LOL. As

Thanks for the google tip but these pages are only for aw users so ranking
doesn't matter to me. Besides, as I said, the pages are new as of yesterday,
it will take awhile for them to noticed. Thanks for the *text* comment, I'll
consider changing the page text back to it's default (as seen on the

I've just uploaded a set of three enviroboxes ... use the set (summer, fall
and winter ... use fall/summer for spring) OR use them all by themselves!
I've left East and West open so you can use sun/moon jpgs. These work great,
I'm using summer in my world Aeon now if you'd like to see it ... best to
teleport out to the boonies if you don't want massive d/ls tho ... perhaps
1000n 1000w ... set your vis to 60 before world objects begin to d/l.

You can find them from my website under the Gallery link! Again, these will
be great for using AW sky colors, cloud layers, sun/moon jpgs ... give them

It's possible that she has AW installed to more than one place. Have her
look at the icon she uses to access AW, right click on it and do Properties,
find the *path* that icon uses to access AW. Then go through that same path
on her computer and delete the cache folder associated with the icon. I've
done that several times myself because of all the AW betas for which I
install each to it's own folder. Have her delete all caches for all AWs she
has installed anyway because the other older ones aren't needed and are only
taking up hard drive space. Hope this helps! Hugzzz

If you do reinstall AW, first uninstall any instance of it. Then reboot yer
puter, then reinstall 498 if you can find it. Once that's installed and
working then perhaps try installing 532 into another folder. Then at least
if that one doesn't work you should be able to go to the other install and
get in from there? Good Luck...
