I could be wrong, but I thought Weebo's question was "how would newbies know
which is a trusted source or not, when first coming to AW. Its all very
good spewing loads of URLs you know are safe - but how did you discover they
were safe?

AS long as people cover their land around the builds then 3d object rotation
wouldnt make much of a difference. The Move command would be worse, but 200
meters of land cover also counteracts that.
Thast how people deal with it in worlds were special commands are availible
anyway.
Dec 10, 2002, 8:58pm
I think the bottom line is, AW needs to consider whats more improtant - the
possibility of some slightly worse vandalism, which can be dealt with. Or
the chance of all builders to use every command and build to their full
potential.

When I said AW i meant AlphaWorld, i know Activeworlds standings on the
issue but they need to decide what they think is best for their main world
(i despise saying that so much). They opted not to enable special commands
maybe they need to re-evalutate on this.

I'm guessing that when more sophisticated movement commands such as orbit
and moveto are added, they will start out as "special commands" also.

the encroachment checks will have to be fixed and extended. In the mean
time, I still think it would be nice if a simpler move syntax was added to
allow vertical movement only, since that could be made available to everyone
without having to re-work the encroachment checks first, and besides... it
makes sense that such a syntax should be supported because it would be
consistent with the alternate y-axis only syntax of the rotate command.

I think its quite nice really, it shows more of a closeness in the universal
community. However, changing the IO once and occasionally is one thing,
repeatedly changing it is another. Occasionally it would be nice to see
some more personal messages but not if they are causing any problems....
Oct 27, 2002, 10:38am
Correct me if i'm wrong, but these messages don't negatively affect your
using of AW. I mean, you don't have to agree with them, and you don't have
to like them, but i can't see how you can dislike them. As far as i can see
you can either love these messages or be completely nonplussed.

Come on, not all literature has to be correct. Its more important when
writing to convey the emotion of the message and get the message across.
Its nice to see threads like this every so often - don't ruin it with your
conforming to correctness stature :)

Oh they're all paraphrasing each other, they're one liner semantic replies
are really quite funny :)
People have to consider everything from both sides of the coin, this person
had something to gain froim doing it - so why shouldn't he - an immature
person is someone who can't adapt to his surroundings. The person who
posted the lik managed to decieve people into thinking it was something
else. Is that not being able to adapt - quite the opposite i'd think.
Monosyllabic answers are not worth the bandwidth they stand on unless they
are supported by why you stand by that opinion.

Advertising has always done stupid things like that. It sounds like some
sort of scare tactic but not a very good one.
"One in five - jeez, i better get their virus checking software because mine
must be terrible!" Don't know why anyone would automatically assume that.
OK one in five computers have a virus, i'm not going to say its untrue.
Just bare in mind there are hundreads of thousands of bacterium in the human

Perhaps it was a bad analogy, but I stand by it - the vast majority of
viruses are harmless or can be conunteracted by defences - that was the
point I was trying to put across.

Its sad that this is true (well most of it). In AWTeen we have to be
careful what to say when we put up a "holiday greetings" IO message. We
can't mention Christmas even though the majority of the people who come to
AWTeen celebrate it, because some don't!
All this politically correctness has been blown way out of proportion in the
last couple of years. We are all individuals and some of us share common
beliefs, however, just because we mention them doesent mean the others don't
matter. The whole world is insane.

Heh the IO message was just an example - it probably will get put up there,
my point is that people will always complain - someone may point out its
anti-jewish or it conflicts with someones belief.
I was just enforcing shred's point - some people take political correctness
too far.
